When I first started high school, I felt nervous and unsure about everything. Now, four years later, I feel proud and thankful for all I have experienced. Looking back, I want to share some important lessons I’ve learned.
At the beginning, I discovered that having a good group of friends is really important. In my freshman year, I joined several clubs and met people who liked the same things I did. These friendships brought me happiness and support throughout high school.
One of the hardest times for me was in my junior year when I struggled in a tough math class. Instead of giving up, I decided to ask my teacher for extra help and spent more time studying. This taught me that asking for help is not a sign of weakness; it’s a smart thing to do.
I also learned that finding the right balance between schoolwork and extracurricular activities can be difficult. Sometimes, I felt stressed because of all the homework and my comments (投入) to sports and volunteering. I realized that it was important to prioritize my tasks and manage my time well.
Perhaps the most valuable lesson I learned is discovering who I am and what I believe in. Through both good and bad experiences, I have grown as a person. As I get ready to graduate, I feel prepared to face new challenges and follow my dreams. High school has been an unforgettable part of my life, and I am thankful for every moment.

6. What was one of the biggest challenges the author faced during junior year
A. Struggling with a difficult math course B. Deciding which college to apply to
C. Managing relationships with friends D. Choosing between extracurricular activities
7. What is the main theme of the passage
A. The importance of academic achievement
B. The benefits of extracurricular activities
C. Personal growth and self- discovery through high school experiences
D. The difficulties of making friends in a new environment
C
Meta, the company behind Facebook and Instagram, has set out new rules to help keep teenage users safer on its platforms. This decision comes after growing pressure from parents, lawmakers, and former employees, as well as ongoing legal problems.
In the coming months, Meta will automatically block(自动屏蔽) certain content for users under 18, including posts(帖子) about suicide, self-harm, and eating disorders. For example, if a teen’s friend shares a post about self- harm, Meta will prevent that teen from seeing it. While these changes aim to protect young users, some experts worry about how effective they will be. Child safety experts say that these rules might stop teens from noticing when a friend is in trouble, which could leave them at risk for bullying (霸凌) and other harmful situations.
Another challenge is that many teens can easily lie about their age when signing up for the apps. Currently, users need to enter their birth dates, but it’s easy for minors to get around age checks. Psychologist(心理学家) Jean Twenge pointed out that many parents may not realize their kids are misrepresenting their ages. To address this, Meta is working on new ways to check users’ ages more effectively.
These changes come during a tough year for Meta, with calls for responsibility from various political groups and proposed laws like the Kids Online Safety Act. Recent whistleblower reports have shown that Meta knew about the risks its platforms have for young users, leading to lawsuits from 40 states claiming that its products contribute to a mental health crisis among teens. As Meta put these new rules into effect, how well they work will be closely watched.
8. What is the main reason Meta took new safety measures for teenagers
A. To increase user participation B. Due to pressure from parents and lawmakers
C. To promote new features D. To expand into new markets
9. Why do some experts worry about the effectiveness of the new measures
A. They believe teens will ignore the rules
B. They fear it will prevent teens from helping friends in crisis
C. They think it will make social media less popular
D. They believe it won’t change anything
10. What steps is Meta taking to improve age check
A. Making it easier to sign up B. Investing in new age check technologies
C Cancelling age checks altogether D. Allowing users to choose their age
11. What does the underlined word in paragraph 3 probably mean
A. Not telling the truth. B. Saying something negative.
C. Pretending to be someone else D. Showing off
D
Researchers have found that short and intense stair climbing, which can be done almost anywhere, has great benefits for fitness.
The findings make the two most common excuses of couch potatoes untrue: no time and no access to the gym. “Stair climbing is a form of exercise anyone can do in their own home, after work or during the lunch hour,” says Martin, a lead author of the study. “This research takes interval (间歇) training out of the lab and makes it possible for everyone.”
Early studies have shown the benefits of stair climbing over continuous periods of time, up to 70 minutes a week, but researchers wanted to determine if interval training, which includes short and intense exercise separated by short periods of recovery, was a good way to improve heart fitness. Researchers recruited 31 women and tested the effect of two different experiments; each required a 10-minute exercise period, including warm-up, cool-down and recovery. The exercise periods were done three times a week over the course of six weeks.
The first experiment included three 20-second of continuous climbing in an “all-out” manner. The participants were then compared to those who went through the same experiment using an exercise bike which has already been shown to improve fitness.
For the second experiment, some women climbed up and down one flight of stairs for 60 seconds, an experiment which could be easily done at home.
Both experiments, each including a total time of 30 minutes a week, increased heart fitness, an important healthy marker that is connected with long life.
12. What does Martin say about stair climbing
A. It saves lots of time. B. It is convenient to do.
C. It requires special training. D. It is better than going to the gym.
13. Why did researchers do the two experiments
A. To test the results of early studies.
B. To encourage people to climb stairs.
C. To prove the benefits of continuous stair climbing.
D. To find out effect of interval training on heart fitness.
14. What can we learn from the two experiments
A. The first one was better for fitness. B. The second one required less total time.
C. Both of them were good for heart health. D. People in the second one turned out healthier.
15. What is the best title for the text
A. How Stair Climbing Benefits People.
B. Why Stair Climbing Is the Best Exercise.
C Stair Climbing—A Good Way to Increase Fitness.
D. Simple Stair Climbing Exercises You Can Do at Home.

B Why Stair Climbing Is the Best Exercise.
C. Stair Climbing—A Good Way to Increase Fitness.
D. Simple Stair Climbing Exercises You Can Do at Home.
