阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。

There's no better way to better understand a foreign culture than through one of its festivals. Here are some interesting festivals in the world.
La Tomatina(Spain)
Last Wednesday of August
This “largest food fight in the world” is believed to have been started with a tomato—but it certainly didn't end with just one. Now, more than 50,000 people pack the streets of Bu ol, Spain, armed with cheap tomatoes, ready to throw them at friends and strangers alike. Gloves and safety glasses are suggested as the battle can get quite heated, even though it lasts just an hour. While past years allowed anyone and everyone to take part, the large number of attendees pushed town officials to require tickets.
National Beer Day(Iceland)
March 1
It's no secret that Icelanders are fond of partying. After all, when there are days when the sun won't stop shining, it makes sense to throw back a few to celebrate. However, it wasn't that long ago (1989) that Iceland was still under a form of prohibition(禁令) and unable to sell beer. When the laws were passed to make beer legal on March 1,1989, Icelanders were excited and have since celebrated National Beer Day each March 1 with pub dances and other celebrations that last until the early hours of the morning. Beer has since become the most popular drink in the country.
  Monkey Banquet(盛宴)(Thailand)
  Last Sunday in November
If you've ever come in close contact with monkeys, you know that they're often a bit troublesome, taking a sandwich from your hand without warning or breaking into your hotel minibar if you forget to lock the doors (true story). However, in 1989, in Lopburi, Thailand, a local innkeeper decided to feed the monkeys a banquet as they're also believed to bring good luck. Thus, a tradition was born and the banquet has grown each year. As the monkeys run into the banquet, they soon get a bit excited and start dancing on the tables and throwing food. For visitors, it's a highly enjoyable sight—just be sure to wear clothes that you don't mind being decorated by the monkeys.

A.To enjoy the sunshine.
B.To remember the period.

A.To attract visitors. B.To gain good luck.

Arsh believes in the importance of making the world a more beautiful place. The talented boy not only paints but also sells his artwork and donates the money.
It all started when his parents bought him a set of painting tools for his 8th birthday. Once he had his own materials, he began spending much of his free time putting color on his canvas. As Arsh's paintings began to grow in number, he decided to give them as gifts to friends and family. Receiving a positive response from people around him, he soon realized his pieces had the potential to get much more than smiles and praise.
His light bulb moment came shortly after: he would sell his artwork and donate the money to charity. His first plan was to raise $1,000 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, which he accomplished in around nine months by selling his paintings on social media and at local art shows. Since then, he's broadened his reach to benefit other organizations, including the childhood cancer nonprofit Compass to Care and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. He's raised over $16,000 for charities so far.
Arsh's artwork is often colorful and cheery, as one might expect from a youngster, but it showcases the impressive technique of a gifted artist. Some pieces are more abstract in nature; others feature realistic renditions(演绎)of flowers and animals. They range in size and complexity, and, accordingly, price. Small paintings might sell for $10 while larger canvases, up to five feet, have gone for $800.
Last year, Arsh won the Diana Award, an honor presented by a UK charity founded on Princess Diana's belief that young people have the power to change their country. And the young artist has advice for other kids looking to make a difference. “Helping others doesn't have to be, like, money or anything. It can be your time, your skills, and your talent,” he says, “and overall, just be kind to other people to make their day better.”
24.What made Arsh interested in painting
A.His parents' deep love of painting.
B.A birthday present from his parents.
C.The encouragement of others around him.
D.His fascination with the beauty of nature.
25.Why did Arsh decide to sell his artwork
A.To pay for his painting materials.
B.To get more attention from others.
C.To attract children's interest in art.
D.To help those people who are in need.
26.What can we learn about Arsh from the text
A.His fundraising plan is going well.
B.He will turn his attention to his studies.
C.All his paintings sell at high prices now.
D.He is going to teach other children to paint for free.
27.What does Arsh want to say in the last paragraph
A.Every child has a unique talent.
B.Everyone has the ability to help others.
C.Talent plays an important role in learning art.
D.Helping others is the responsibility of young artists.

Eating out in the United States is not much different than eating out in other parts of the world. There are still fast-food chains such as McDonald's and KFC for those hamburgers. However, what makes the restaurants in the US unique is that there is a cultural diversity of restaurants serving food from almost every part of the world. When you arrive in Irvine, and travel around the city, you will find many restaurants of many different cultures, ranging from Europe to the Middle East and Asia. So, when you first arrive, there are always restaurants close by that offer the food you prefer.
Now how do you find those restaurants and know if they are good or not The most common way is through the Internet. In the US, most restaurants can be found through a smartphone app called Yelp. It is a commonly used search engine for restaurants and it is very convenient to use! All you need is to enter the cuisine you want such as “Indian, Sichuan, Sushi, Vegetarian, etc.” In addition, each restaurant on there is also rated and reviewed by some of their past customers. At some restaurants, you can also sign up for the waiting list through the app to economize on time!
If you don't have time to go out and eat, there are food delivery services available. Traditionally, pizza is the most common food for delivery. Some delivery services you can try are DoorDash, Uber Eats, or Postmates. All you would need to do is just open a free account, select the restaurants on their webpage, order from the menu, and enter your address to have the food delivered to your home. They usually have a delivery discount the first time you sign up for an account, so be sure to take advantage of that!
28.What sets restaurants in the United States apart from other parts of the world
A.The use of Internet apps for ordering food.
B.The tradition of having food delivered to one's home.
C.The presence of fast-food chains like McDonald's and KFC.
D.The availability of a wide range of cultural diversity in food options.
29.What is the most common way for visitors to find restaurants serving their preferred cuisine
A.By exploring the city on foot.
B.By asking the locals for recommendations.
C.By using the Yelp app to search for specific cuisines.
D.By checking in at their hotel for a list of nearby restaurants.
30.What do the underlined words “economize on” mean in the second paragraph
A.Save. B.Spend.
C.Kill. D.Waste.
31.How do food delivery services in the US attract new customers
A.By offering a wide range of food options.
B.By providing free delivery for all orders.
C.By allowing customers to order through smartphone apps.
D.By offering delivery discounts to first-time account sign-ups.
D
Those of us making grand travel plans might want to consider the final frontier as a destination. That's because Orbital Assembly Corporation, a new construction company run by former pilot John Blincow, is planning to open a luxury space hotel by 2027. Voyager Station, as it's being called, will accommodate 280 guests and 112 crew members, aiming to be the first commercial space hotel upon completion.
“We're trying to make the public realize that this golden age of space travel is just around the corner. It's coming. It's coming fast,” Blincow said in an interview. The golden age of space travel is coming indeed, as space tourism has drawn the attention of Richard Branson and Elon Musk. And it's the latter that Blincow and his team hope to partner in the near future. “We cannot call Musk's SpaceX our partner, but in the future we look forward to working with them,” Blincow said.
The physics involved in sleeping within a space hotel is similar to spinning water in a bucket(桶). Much in the same way one can spin(旋转) a bucket in a circle, keeping the water inside it, the space hotel will simulate gravity in a similar manner. This makes comfortable rooms and stylish bar experiences possible.
But for many visitors who venture so far, feeling the weightlessness of space is a big part of the appeal(吸引力). The team plans to serve traditional space food such as freeze-dried ice cream in the hotel's restaurant. There are plans for recreational activities such as basketball games where participants can jump higher due to the weightlessness of the environment.
Until now, the space hotel hasn't mentioned its room rate, but judging by other proposed public space missions, it will come at a high cost. For example, Virgin Galactic plans to take ordinary passengers into space at $250,000 per person, per trip. The team at Voyager Station, however, has already assured the public that they plan to eventually make a stay at the hotel something similar to a cruise.
32.What can we know about Voyager Station
A.It will be constructed.
B.It aims to train pilots.
C.It has been put into use.
D.It's the name of a spaceship.
33.Why are Richard Branson and Elon Musk mentioned in paragraph 2
A.To show the popularity of them.
B.To stress the coming of space travel.
C.To list Blincow's partners at present.
D.To show examples of space agencies.
34.What does the third paragraph focus on
A.Stylish bars.
B.Water in a bucket.
C.The space travel experience.
D.The physics involved in the space hotel.
35.Which of the following may attract visitors greatly when they are living in the space hotel
A.Its remoteness.
B.Its room rate.
C.Feeling the weightlessness of space.
D.Playing basketball with famous players.

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Good Neighbours
After school one winter day, Jack asked his mother to allow him to go out and play in the snow. “Sure, you can. Remember to put on your coat, your hat and your gloves,” his mother said. “You can build a snowman before your father comes home.”
“I'm going to need a carrot for the nose,” Jack said. “And I'll need some things for the snowman's hat and face.” Jack got a bucket(桶) and collected everything he needed to decorate his snowman. His mother promised she would watch him build the snowman from the window.
Outside, in his front yard, Jack started with a very small ball of snow. He got on his knees and rolled the snow into a big ball. At another window, someone else was watching Jack play. It was his new neighbour Naoko. Naoko asked her mother if she could go outside and join Jack in building his snowman. Naoko's mother agreed and promised to watch her from the window. “You can play until your father comes home,” her mother said.
Naoko ran outside to Jack's yard and asked if she could help him finish his snowman.
“Yes, please help me,” Jack said. “I have built my snowman's body with two snowballs. I need to roll one more for my snowman's head.”
“But snowmen only have two snowballs. One is for the body and the other one is for the head,” Naoko said.
“No, snowmen always have three snowballs,” Jack said. “I don't think I need you to help me after all.”
Jack picked up some snow and made it into a small snowball. He got on his knees and rolled the snow away from Naoko to make the snowman's head. Naoko walked back into her own yard and began to build her own snowman.
Jack made a hat for his snowman with his bucket. He used his mother's buttons for the eyes and mouth. Lastly, he added a carrot for the snowman's nose. Seeing his snowman, Jack was happy, but suddenly a terrible thing happened. The head fell off the snowman and crashed onto the ground! “Oh, no! My snowman fell apart,” Jack said, “and my father is almost home!”
注意:续写词数应为150个左右。
Naoko heard Jack's cry and ran over to his yard to see what the problem was.

“You're welcome. I like your snowman better,”Naoko said. “Mine doesn't have a nose.”

One possible version:
Naoko heard Jack's cry and ran over to his yard to see what the problem was. “I'll help you roll another snowball,” Naoko said. “If we do it together, we can finish it before your father gets home.” Together, Jack and Naoko rolled a new snowball. They shaped it with their hands until it was round. Then they lifted it up onto the snowman's body and decorated it with the carrot, bucket and buttons. “We finished it just in time,” Jack said. “Thank you for your help.”
“You're welcome. I like your snowman better,” Naoko said. “Mine doesn't have a nose.”Jack walked over to look at Naoko's snowman. He loved the pine cone eyes and mouth and the sticks for arms, but he knew it wasn't finished. Jack ran back to his snowman and pulled the carrot out. He broke it in half and gave one half to Naoko. “Hurry,” Jack said. “Your snowman needs a nose and your father is driving up the street too.” “Thank you,” Naoko said. “You're welcome,” Jack said. “I think our snowmen make good neighbours.”
