It is a cold, dark winter evening—the kind of night that can have runners struggling to find the encouragement to run out. But there will be none of the usual “shall-I-shan't-I ” dialogue going on in Sarah Donaghy's head, because tonight is Food Bank Run.
Donaghy, a teacher and the welfare officer for Fareham Running Club, organised the first Food Bank Run in February 2018. “The idea was that, instead of our usual training run, we'd fill backpacks with food to donate to the local food bank and run there, where volunteers would be waiting to receive it,” she says. Donaghy was expecting about 20 members to take part: “I lost count by the time I got to 70.”
Claire Johnson, the community team leader at the Waypoint Hub, which houses a food bank, says, “It was an amazing and emotional experience to see so many runners arrive at our building, bringing much-needed supplies.” But it wasn't just the food bank that benefited from it. “The runners loved it,” says Donaghy. “The following week after the first run, they were all asking when we could do it again.”
A running equipment company, Runr, joined to help with publicity and event cooperation, creating a Food Bank Run website, complete with an interactive(交互式的) map of events. “Last year, more than 500 running groups, clubs, events and parkruns got involved, donating more than 77 tonnes of supplies to food banks in their communities,” says Craig Winter, one of the founders of Runr.
The event spreads a significant factor—joining with others in physical activity that has a real purpose. It is not “I must do this long run because I'm training for a marathon” or “I must exercise because I'm trying to lose weight”, but something greater. “I truly believe that running for a cause changes your view,” Donaghy says. “Yes, you could do it by entering a marathon and raising money for charity, but there's something quite special about handing over food that's going to someone in your community who really needs it.”
24.What did runners do in the Food Bank Run
A.They performed their usual training.
B.They prepared food for the volunteers.
C.They collected donations during the run.
D.They delivered food to the local food bank.
25.How did Johnson feel about the first Food Bank Run
A.Appreciative. B.Puzzled. C.Worried. D.Curious.
26.What can we learn about Runr
A.It becomes popular online.
B.It helps organize activities. C.It designs the running route. D.It provides free running shoes.
27.What is the best title of the text
A.Advertise a Club B.Run for a Good Cause
C.The Power of Running D.The Charm of Volunteering

Childhood can bring a lot of awe(敬畏). Research also suggests that awe is important in promoting well-being beyond our individual lives—it can encourage our children to care for others.
A recent study by researchers Eftychia Stamkou, Keltner, and their colleagues invited children aged 8-13 to take part in an experiment. In the awe group, children were offered a short part of a movie that features a child transformed into a seal(海豹) and exploring the sea while in the joy group, children were offered a short part of another movie where friends were celebrating.
Researchers measured children's kindness toward poor families by inviting children to support their food drive by spending as much time as they wanted in counting donated things, to make sure the poor got access to the donated food as quickly as possible. They also invited children to donate the reward they earned from taking part in the research (e.g., a snack or a museum ticket) to a poor family.
The results Children who watched the awe-inspiring video spent more time counting food donations and donated their rewards to poor families more often compared to the children who watched the joy-inspiring video. These findings highlight that awe-inspiring art can motivate children to be sympathetic toward people who have been forcibly displaced(离开家园) from their countries of origin.
As parents, we can also seek out everyday experiences of awe in our communities to share with our children, like wall paintings of the city scenery and folk art. Awe can be inspired by music, like the harmonious sounds of a wooden guitar and the beat of a drum. Awesome architecture, like symphony halls, museums, and even features like staircases, can be a way to experience awe with our children.
28.What does the research find
A.Awe should be inspired early.
B.Awe helps kids be more generous.
C.Individual lives affect kids' health.
D.Training awe gives kids excitement.
29.What do we know about the children in the experiment
A.They watched different movies.
B.They commented on the videos.
C.They were asked some questions.
D.They donated money to poor families.
30.Why did the awe group support the food drive more
A.They learned this from a video.
B.They liked to contribute to charity.
C.They were motivated by the movie.
D.They were reminded by the homeless.
31.What does the author intend to do in the last paragraph
A.List experiences of awe.
B.Give reasons for feeling awe.
C.Show benefits of awe to kids.
D.Appeal for developing awe in kids.
D
Virtue, by definition, is the moral excellence of a person. Morally excellent people have a character made up of virtues valued as good. They are honest, respectful, courageous, forgiving and kind, for example. They do the right thing, and don't bend to impulses, urges or desires, but act according to values and principles. Some might say good qualities are inborn. Actually, virtues need to be cultivated. With the habit of being virtuous, we can take control of our lives and move them in the direction of greater happiness and fulfillment.
Virtues are universal and recognized by all cultures as basic qualities of well-being. However, practicing virtues is not easy. So often we know that it takes perseverance to reach our goals, but we still never get there. We know that if we forgive, we'll be less angry. We know it takes courage to accomplish great things. So why then, if we know what to do, are we still stuck
Because we have not yet consciously applied a virtue to a given situation so as to change its outcome such as in these examples: kindness towards someone who is having a bad day can make him or her smile and build rapport;trust in a relationship creates valuable, meaningful relationships; gratitude in a job loss can shift our focus from feeling low to how we can have a more fulfilling, new career; service to others can change lives, better neighborhoods and create stronger nations.
We know we are becoming more virtuous people, not only because of the above results but also because of the way other people respond to us. Our friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors will trust and rely on us. They will come to us for guidance and help. They will want to be around us because we inspire them to be better people. Practicing virtues allows us to develop our potential, and live a more purposeful and better life.
32.What can we know about virtuous people from the first paragraph
A.They are born with virtue.
B.They never make a mistake.
C.They have a habit of doing good.
D.They act on the principle of profit.
33.What is the second paragraph mainly about
A.It's hard to practice virtues.
B.It's a virtue to forgive others.
C.It takes courage to achieve goals.
D.Trust is necessary in a relationship.
34.What does the underlined word “rapport” mean in the third paragraph

A.A good greeting.
B.A great exchange.
C.A good goodbye.
D.A close relationship.
35.What is the author's purpose in the last paragraph
A.To encourage readers to be more virtuous.
B.To encourage readers to live a purposeful life.
C.To encourage readers to offer others guidance.
D.To encourage readers to develop others' potential.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Forgiveness
To forgive is a virtue, but no one has ever said it is easy. When someone has deeply hurt you, it can be extremely difficult to let go of your hate. However, forgiveness is possible, and it can be surprisingly beneficial to your physical and mental health. People who forgive show less sadness, anger and stress and more hopefulness, according to recent research.
 36 Try the following steps:
Calm yourself. 37 You can take a couple of breaths and think of something that gives you pleasure:a beautiful scene in nature, or someone you love.
Don't wait for an apology. Many times the person who hurts you does not intend to apologize. He may not have wanted to hurt you or just doesn't see things the same way. 38 Keep in mind that forgiveness does not necessarily mean becoming friends again with the person who upsets you.
Take the control away from your offender(冒犯者). Rethinking about your hurt gives power to the person who causes your pain. Instead of focusing on your wounded feelings, learn to look for the love, beauty and kindness around you.
39 If you understand your offender, you may realize that he or she is acting out of unawareness, fear, and even love. You may want to write a letter to yourself from your offender's point of view.
Don't forget to forgive yourself. 40 But it can rob you of your self-confidence if you don't do it.
A.Why should you forgive
B.How should you start to forgive
C.Recognize the benefits of forgiveness.
D.Try to see things from your offender's angle.
E.For some people, forgiving themselves is the biggest challenge.
F.To make your anger die away, try a simple stress-management technique.
G.If you wait for other people to apologize, you could be waiting an awfully long time.

Back in the day when I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with my life, I was studying to become a firefighter. I was a volunteer fire aide in New York, and was studying at Mission College. As a firefighter, you should always think of other people and try to help other people.
One night after class, I was walking home and decided to stop off at a fast food restaurant. I lived in an apartment alone near my college so most of the time I used to get a takeout. I got my food and started to head home when a homeless man walked to me. He looked 20 or so. He was very dirty and obviously very hungry. He asked me for some change to buy a little food. As I was pulling some change out, I had an idea.
I decided to see if he wanted to eat a real dinner, so I asked him to follow me back into the restaurant to order food together. For someone who had been on the fringes(边缘) of society it seemed like he was very surprised at my generosity. But to me, it was what any human being should do or at least offer. He was afraid to go into the restaurant because of shame. But I insisted. When he finally followed me and walked into the restaurant, the people behind the counter refused to let him in, but I told them that I was buying him dinner and he had a right to be there. After some arguments, they finally let him in and he sat down at the table. It seemed like he was relieved a bit to be sitting at the table. I asked him to order whatever he wanted. He only ordered a hamburger, so I had to encourage him to order whatever he wanted.
注意:续写词数应为150个左右。
Finally he ordered three hamburgers and we began to talk.

He stood up and looked at me, open-mouthed.

第四部分 写作
第一节
One possible version:
A Community Service Activity
In order to call on more people to learn from Lei Feng, our school organized a community service activity last week. Some student representatives from each class and three teachers took part in it.
We were divided into three groups. Group One were in charge of cleaning up the community centre and picking up the rubbish from the grassland. Group Two went to see the elderly in the nursing home with fresh fruit and helped clean their rooms. Group Three handed out leaflets to residents, appealing to everyone to protect the environment and care for others.
Through this activity, we experienced true happiness by helping others. Everyone could make a difference to our beautiful community.
第二节
One possible version:
Finally he ordered three hamburgers and we began to talk. I asked why he was on the street. He was silent, with his head down. After a while, he said that his parents died in an accident when he was twelve. He had been homeless since then. There was no job he could do to support himself. He had no place to live in and had to hang out most of the time. Hearing his words, I was heartbroken. I asked him if he minded sharing an apartment with me.
He stood up and looked at me,open-mouthed. I smiled, repeating my words. Suddenly, he grasped my hands tightly, with tears rolling down his face. He couldn't say a word but I knew what he wanted to say. I told him he could find a job near my apartment and start a new life. A bright smile appeared on his face, “I couldn't thank you more. You light up my life!” he said heartily. I felt very happy. After enjoying our food, we headed for the door as well as our new life.
