The Longtaitou Festival, which means “the dragon raises its head” in Chinese, is a traditional Chinese festival held on the second day of the second month in the Chinese lunar calendar. So, it's also called the Eryue'er Festival. In Chinese culture, the dragon is an auspicious(吉利的) animal that dominates clouds and rain. The 2nd day of the 2nd lunar month is thought to be the day when the dragon awakes and raises its head according to the Chinese folk legend. So the day is called Dragon Head-raising Day. After the day, spring is coming and there will be more and more rain. People think these credits(功劳) go to the dragon. So the day is also called the Spring Dragon Festival. Since the Yuan Dynasty, Chinese people have had the custom of celebrating the Longtaitou Festival.
The most popular custom on Dragon Head-raising Day is cutting hair. The dragon is highly honored for its dignity(尊贵) and power for good. It is thought to be auspicious to cut hair on Dragon Head-raising Day. Luck and opportunities will always knock you in the year. So, on that day, barbershops'(理发店的) business is growing and they are full of customers.
The most common food for celebrating the festival is popcorn, pancakes, noodles, dumplings, fried soy beans and the pig's head meat. People in different areas have different traditions about the food on the day. In Beijing, people eat lvdagunr (glutinous rice rolls with sweet bean flour) and spring pancakes on the day. In Shanxi, people like to eat fried dough twists(麻花) and pancakes. In Shandong, fried soy beans, noodles and dumplings are the festival food. Isn't it bad that we never think about them and are always concerned about our needs ” Mano replied. “Sometimes we are so busy with our lives that we don't pay proper attention to our parents. We should listen to whatever they say properly and answer them. We must also study hard to get good grades,” Ali nodded. The next day, all three of them, Mano, Ali and their mum, got busy preparing for their surprise celebration for Father's Day. Mano drew a family picture with her crayons(彩色蜡笔), and Ali bought balloons and candles and began writing a poem which he planned to sing that day. In short, a lot of things were being planned and prepared.
