During the Spring Festival, I argued with my mother at the dining table. It was supposed to be a joyful time, but a small matter broke the mood. Back in my room, I cried while looking through short videos and accidentally saw one.
In the video, a young woman comes home to a messy kitchen. Her ″son″ is covered in dough (生面团) and flour. She quickly turns off the gas stove and is relieved that everything is safe. She then angrily scolds (责骂) her five-year-old ″son″, who cries loudly. Watching this, I couldn't understand. What can a child understand Even if he did something wrong, she shouldn't take her anger out on him! It looked like he was trying to make dumplings for his ″mother″.
The woman then realizes she lost her cool and softens her tone, saying, ″Today we'll eat out. We should have something special for the New Year.″ They go to a busy street and choose a noodle shop. After paying, the woman notices her ″son″ is missing. She searches everywhere, worried, and finally finds him standing in front of a dumpling restaurant. She runs over and cries, ″Why did you run away You frightened me!″ The ″son″ points to the dumplings and says, ″Dumplings... your favorite. We should eat dumplings for the New Year.″ The woman is very surprised.
The video then shows the ″son's″ face aging, showing it's actually a daughter caring for her father, who has the mind of a child.
The woman remembers making dumplings with her father during the Spring Festival when she was young. Now, her elderly father has the mind of a child.
Everything makes sense now. Parents can always forgive their children's mistakes, but children often have high expectations of their parents—even as they age.
Why can't I be more understanding of my mother The person spending the New Year with me should be the one I cherish the most. Thinking this, I put down my phone and walked out of my room.
24.Why did the author argue with his mother during the Spring Festival
A.Because of a big problem. B.Because of a short video.
C.Because of a misunderstanding. D.Because of a small thing.
25.What was the ″son's″ intention when he made a mess in the kitchen
A.To play with dough. B.To frighten his ″mother″.
C.To make dumplings for his ″mother″. D.To force his ″mother″ to go shopping with him.
26.What did the young woman in the video decide to do after scolding her ″son″
A.Say sorry to him. B.Take him out to eat. C.Send him to his room. D.Make dumplings together.
27.What lesson did the author learn from the video
A.Be a more understanding child. B.Making dumplings is too difficult.
C.Always clean up mess after cooking. D.Children should respect their parents.

A survey has found that more and more British people are taking steps to live a more environment-friendly life as climate (气候) change becomes a bigger problem. According the survey, green living is on the rise among British people, with 79% of the participants (参与者) saying that they are greener than they were ten years ago.
The survey including 2,000 British people found that four out of five British people say they are greener than they were a decade ago. 61% of the participants believe that they have a duty to live a greener lifestyle, and 70% want to keep making lifestyle changes to be more eco-friendly.
What actions are British people taking The survey found that reuse, eating less meat and avoiding single-use plastics are the most common eco-friendly actions. It also found that British people do not understand which actions can be the most helpful for the environment.
For example, 53% of the participants didn't know that cars have a higher carbon footprint (碳排放量) than trains, and only 19% are now trying to travel more by train to reduce the pollution.
Of course, this is just one study with a group of 2,000 people. Even so, there does seem to be a move towards greener living. For example, according to the official website, the reusing rate increased in England between 2010 and 2019.Research by NatCen Social Research found a big drop in meat eating between 2012 and 2018.
While we shouldn't celebrate too soon—there is still lots of work to be done to fight climate change—any move towards greener living is certainly good news!
28.How did the author present the findings
A.By discussing reasons. B.By listing data.
C.By showing official advice. D.By giving personal opinions.
29.What is shown in paragraph 3
A.Which ways are much greener. B.Why the British choose greener living,
C.How the British practise greener living. D.What actions British people take to live healthily.
30.What do we know about the survey
A.More than 2,000 people took part in it.
B.70% of the participants dislike making a change.
C.19% of the participants know the environment well.
D.About half participants know little about eco-friendly acts.
31.What is the author's attitude to greener living in Britain
A.Curious. B.Optimistic. C.Indifferent. D.Doubtful.

Travel 200 kilometers out of Khartoum into the Sudanese desert, and you'll see the ancient pyramids (金字塔) of Meroe, which look like a mirage (海市蜃楼). These pyramids are far away from the busy tourist places of the Egyptian pyramids. This area of North Sudan used to be part of the land of the pharaohs (kings of ancient Egypt), which is why there are so many amazing pyramids and temples here.
The pyramids are about 5,000 years old. This is a topic of debate between the Sudanese government, which says the pyramids are older than those in Egypt, and scientists from other countries.
Thousands of years ago, Meroe was the capital city of the Kingdom of Kush, ruled by the Nubian Dynasty. The pyramids here are spread across three sites and are different from the Egyptian pyramids because they have smaller bases and steeper (更陡峭的) sides. Many people don't know that this place in North Africa has about 200 pyramids and temples, which is more than those in all of Egypt. Sudan's pyramids were built as tombs (坟墓) for Nubian kings.
Step inside today, and you'll see paintings on the walls that show important moments from the rule of this famous king. Considering their age and remote location, it's amazing that these buildings are still mostly complete. However, careful visitors might notice that some of the pyramids are missing their top points. This is because an Italian explorer ravaged some of the pyramids in the 1880s while looking for treasure.
UNESCO has listed the pyramids as a world heritage site.
32.What is the author's main purpose of writing paragraph 1
A.To show what a mirage is like. B.To introduce the topic of the text.
C.To explain the historical significance of Meroe. D.To stress the importance of the pyramids of Meroe.
33.How are the pyramids of Meroe different from the Egyptian pyramids
A.They are more important. B.They are in a steeper area.
C.They are smaller and steeper. D.They are made of all kinds of materials.
34.What does the underlined word ″ravaged″ in paragraph 4 mean
A.Updated. B.Exchanged. C.Improved. D.Destroyed.
35.What is the best title for the text
A.The Ancient Kingdom of Kush B.The Debate over Pyramids' Age
C.The Discovery of Meroe's Mirage D.The Valuable Pyramids of Meroe

If sports are something that interests you, you'd like to be good at them. Consistent effort and a positive mindset can make a big difference in your progress. To achieve this, practice is the key. 36
Join a sports team. If you want to become a sports superstar, joining a team is a good way to start. If your skills are low, joining an amateur league will sharpen up your skills. Sports teams are everywhere, and most of them are free to join. 37 Recreation centers are often hosts to sports teams as well.
Get a great coach. Great coaches come in all shapes and sizes. Certain coaching personalities will suit you better than others. It's necessary to find a good coach for you. 38 In the early stages, a coach's enthusiasm is often more helpful than scientific know-how.
Set your sights wide. If you want to be truly great at sports, it's not enough to focus on a couple of sports alone. It's important to set your sights wide with your exercise. Don't specialize in skills unless you' re already a great athlete. 39 Whether you play one sport or multiple sports, training your entire body will improve your sports performance.
40 It's a common mistake to jump into the advanced stuff quickly. This isn't an effective way to spend training time. You need a solid foundation before you move on to bigger things. If you' re new to a sport, take as much time as you need to get the basic movements down properly. It'll make advanced skills a lot easier to get in the long run.
A.Pay attention to basics first.
B.You can go for school team tryouts.
C.Try your best to get advanced skills.
D.Find ways to train every part of your body.
E.Here are some ways to help you to become good at sports.

Christmas Day was just days away, and the attractive moon-shaped nightlight I had ordered for Maya, our teenage daughter, still hadn't arrived in the mail. ″I ordered it on September 6,″ I complained to my husband, Neil. ″Why is the nightlight taking so long to arrive What's the problem ″
The latest news reported a lot about empty store shelves and traffic jams. The nightlight was made in France, but we lived in northern America. I was uncertain whether there was a nightlight available, or it might have been lost in the mail.
I counted on Christmas Day to be a time of peace and happiness for our family. Maya had gone through a difficult time because of a terrible disease. Like any other parents, we were worried and stressed. Maya felt it too, and I thought the little nightlight would light up her room and heart. Then I called the company.
″I'm sorry,″ a company service representative (代表) said after I gave her my order number. ″There's something strange here, and we'll have a look. You'll get a call back within24 hours.″ I had to wait with little hope.
However, the next day, my phone rang. ″For some reason,″ said the representative, ″your package sat in a Pennsylvania post office for several days. After that, we can't follow it, so I'm marking it 'lost'. We'll overnight a new one.″ As promised, this new nightlight arrived two days later, and it was just as good as I'd hoped. Maya would love it, too.
As expected, Maya loved the nightlight so much that she couldn't wait to show it off to her younger brother, Chase, who was also a teenager. The next morning, I asked Chase, ″What are you hoping to get for Christmas Day ″ He quickly listed several things. ″And a new nightlight,″ he added.
How I wish I had known that earlier, but it was too late to order another one for Chase. Feeling very helpless, I walked up and down the living room. The thought of Chase's disappointment on Christmas Day was a weight on my heart.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
In the afternoon, Neil returned with a package. To my surprise, the representative said, ″We're not going to charge you for the 'lost' package.″

W: Oh, hello. I read about your club in the paper today and I thought I'd phone to find out a bit more.
M: Yes, certainly. Well, we are a sort of social club for people from different countries. It's quite a new club—we have about 50 members at the moment, but we are growing all the time.
W: That sounds interesting. I'm British actually, and I came to Washington about three months ago. I'm looking for ways to meet people. Er, what kinds of events do you organize
M: Well, we have social get-togethers, and sports events, and we also have language evenings.
W: Could you tell me something about the language evenings
M: Yes. Every day except Thursday we have a language evening. People can come and practice their languages—you know, over a drink or something. We have different languages on different evenings. Monday—Spanish; Tuesday—Italian; Wednesday—German; and Friday—French. On Thursday we usually have a meal in a restaurant for anyone who wants to come.
W: Well, that sounds great. I really need to practice my French.
M:OK. Well, if you can just give me your name and address, I'll send you the form and some more information. If you join now, you can have the first month free.

I was worried about missing school because I had an important science test that day. If it had been for math or English, I could have taken the test online, but I needed to be in the lab. Dad called my school and explained the situation, and, thankfully, my teacher said I could take the exam when I felt better. By lunchtime, I had developed a cough. So, together with Dad, I went to the hospital to do a medical test. It was unpleasant, but not too bad. I got the result the next day. Luckily! It was not very serious, but it was still a very bad cold. I was in bed for five days and didn't return to school until the following Wednesday. Anyhow, I passed my science test!

语法填空:

57.for 【解析】考查介词。be famous for是固定搭配,意为“因……而闻名”。

Dear Henry,
I hope this email finds you well. I heard you've been feeling quite anxious due to the heavy study pressure recently. I understand how challenging it can be, and I want to offer some relevant suggestions to you.
Firstly, it's important to take regular breaks during your study sessions, which will help you stay focused and prevent burnout. Secondly, physical exercise, even a quick walk, can be a great way to relieve stress. Lastly, don't hesitate to talk to someone about your feelings, whether it's a friend or a family member.
Remember to maintain a positive mindset and not be too hard on yourself. I'm confident that with some adjustments, you'll find a way to balance your studies and well-being.
Best regards,
Li Hua

参考范文:
In the afternoon, Neil returned with a package. ″This was just sent to the door,″ he said, handing me the unexpected package. With surprise, I tore open the wrapping only to find it was the ″lost″ nightlight we had given up on. Thankfully, it had finally arrived, just in time to fill Chase's room. Then my husband advised me to call the company and tell them somehow the ″lost″ nightlight finally arrived. We both thought we should be charged for the two packages.
To my surprise, the representative said, ″We're not going to charge you for the 'lost' package.″ ″Christmas Day is coming. We give it to you for free as a gift from us to you and your family for the holiday. And we really appreciate your honesty,″ she added. I thanked them sincerely and hung up with a smile, already imagining the surprise on Chase's face when he unwrapped his nightlight like Maya's. No doubt it would cast a reassuring light over our Christmas Day, a light for all the days and nights to come.
