Question:
My 12-year-old daughter is a liar (撒谎者).
I wish it weren't true, but just about everything that
comes out of her mouth is a lie. If she tells me she's
texting a girl from her school, it's probably a boy.
If I were to ask her if the sky is blue, she'd probably tell me it isn't. Why is she doing this and how can we get her to stop
From a puzzled mother
Answer:
Telling lies is not only a part of human nature but also a learned behavior. Since lying is a learned behavior, it's possible to unlearn it as well. Here are some steps.
First, try to find out why she's lying. Is it to cover up a previous (以前的) lie To avoid taking responsibility for something To attract attention and get you to spend more time with her Once you know what's behind the lies, you'll have a better chance of being able to deal with them-and she won't feel the need to lie as often.*
Second, come up with some bad results that will kick in when your daughter lies to you. Talk with your husband and agree on a response to lying that you’ll both support. If possible, ask your daughter to come up with what she thinks is a suitable result; kids often come up with harsher (更严厉的) punishments than their parents do.
Third, encourage her to tell the truth-even if it's a really small thing. If you ask her whether she's finished her homework and she actually has, let her know you noticed and give her a reward (it doesn't have to be a big deal---letting her stay up 20 minutes past her bedtime is enough).
1. What's the mother's trouble

B. Her daughter usually doesn't tell the truth.

B. Finding out if the daughter wants to stay with her mom.
C. Knowing about telling lies is a part of human nature.

4. Which of the following is the best way to help a child stop lying
A. Letting him/her stay up 20 minutes past his/her bedtime.
B. Spending as much time with him/her as possible.
C. Asking him/her to consider the bad results of lying.
D. Combining punishment and encouragement.

Researchers have found that the Chinese martial art of T'ai Chi could slow down the progression (发展) of Parkinson's disease by years.
As we all know, T'ai Chi is a type of physical exercise that
involves a set of very slow movements, which can help make our
bodies and minds healthier.
Doctors from the Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine carried out a five-year study on people with Parkinson's disease. The researchers found out that the condition progressed at a slower rate in those who practiced T'ai Chi. They observed that T'ai Chi practitioners had fewer falls, and less dizziness (头晕)and back pain. The researchers also noted that the cognitive (认知的)function of the test participants who regularly practiced T'ai Chi deteriorated (退化) more slowly.*
Parkinson's disease is a brain disorder that affects the nerves and muscles. It gradually causes uncontrollable movements, such as shaking, stiffness(僵硬), and difficulty with balance and coordination. People with Parkinson's disease may eventually have difficulty walking and talking. One of the most famous people with Parkinson's disease was the boxing champion Muhammad Ali.
The researchers believe that practicing T'ai Chi could keep symptoms (症状)of Parkinson's disease at bay for years. They said, "The long-term beneficial effect of T'ai Chi on Parkinson's disease could prolong (延长)the time without disability, leading to a higher quality of life."

In today's busy world, more of us are experiencing tiredness and fatigue (极度疲劳).Experts say there is an increase in chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS)(慢性疲劳综合征). This is a disorder that makes us feel quite tired. That tiredness does not go away even if we rest. *
A sleep expert said, "Our way of living is characterized by always being
connected, feeling a lot of pressure, and not getting enough sleep." What's

Mosquitoes seem to like some people more than others. Scientists from the Virginia Teach university in the USA believe the 1 of our body could attract mosquitoes. These include the 2 smell of our bodies and the smells from soap and perfume

He said that 5 the soap we use could change how attractive we are to mosquitoes.* Soap with a neutral(中性的)or no smell could make us 6 tasty to the creatures.
The researchers tested the effects of four popular brands (品牌) of soap on mosquitoes. They studied the smell of different people after they used each soap, and when they did not wash 7 . The researchers recreated the soapy and unwashed smells and put them in two different cups. Then they put the cups in a cage 8 with mosquitoes. The insects seemed to prefer the flowery smells from the soapy cups. Mosquitoes may be like humans 9 they are attracted by floral and fruity smells. One researcher gave some 10 . One of the most annoying things in life is an itch(痒) that won't go away. Scientists have worked for decades to find out why we itch, and to find a cure. Res c archers at Harvard Medical School in the USA have discovered that when skin bacteria (细菌) touch our
nerve cells, they make us feel itchy. Lead researcher Liwen Deng said
the bacteria are linked to many diseases that cause itchiness. The most
common disease is eczema (湿疹). Dr Deng wrote, "The bacteria that can make your skin itch can be found on the skin of many patients." She added, "Patients with long-term skin problems may feel very uncomfortable because of the itching."
Dr Deng and her team conducted their research on mice. They discovered an enzyme (酶) called V8. The enzyme triggered (触发)a protein that made the mice itch. The protein is involved in blood coagulation (凝固), so the researchers wanted to see if an anticoagulant medicine could stop itching. It worked. This medicine may be used to stop people from itching in the future. This is good news for about 245 million people around the world who have eczema. It's said that female patients with eczema are three times more than male patients.
