A
Pick-your-own farms are set for a post-lockdown boom this summer, as people look to support local businesses and spend more time outdoors. Here are four of our favorites.
Parkside Farm, Enfield
Juicy blackberries, and strawberries are the stars of the show at this pick-your-own place on the northern edge of London. One key selling point is the “table-top” strawberry-growing system, which means plants are grown in places at waist height — no more bending down in the dirt to pick your berries. Parkside is also one of the few farms accessible without a car, as long as you don’t mind a walk — it’s 25 minutes from Gordon Hill station.
Craigie’s Farm, Scotland
Just outside Edinburgh, Craigie’s Farm is bursting with produce including cherries, peas, broad beans and, perhaps surprisingly, sunflowers. The onsite shop, deli and cafe have a lot more to offer besides fruits and vegetables — you can pick up homemade jams, meat, cheese and an apple press for making your own juice. There are activities for children too, including a Nature Detective Trail involving encounters with sheep and goats.
Hewitts Farm, Kent
This family-run farm in Kent offers everything from spinach to apples and blackberries during its pick-your-own season, which runs from June to October (for Halloween pumpkins). There’s also a shop selling farm-grown and local produce, as well as free tractor rides for youngsters on Sundays during the summer.
Bellis Brothers Farm, Wrexham
This farm in North Wales started growing strawberries back in 1860 and has operated as a pick-your-own since 1967. More fruits have been added since then, but it’s still mostly known for its strawberries. Pickers can download Bellis family strawberry recipes from the farm’s website, including those for jams and a baked strawberry cheesecake.
21.Which of the following is TRUE about Parkside Farm
A.You can enjoy sunflowers in the sunshine.
B.You can pick berries without bending down.
C.You need not worry about getting dirty on the farm.
D.You must drive there due to its long distance from the station.
22.Which place is recommended if visitors want farm-grown and local produce
A.Parkside Farm. B.Craigie’s Farm.
C.Hewitts Farm. D.Bellis Brothers Farm.
23.In which part of the magazine can you probably find this passage
A.Business. B.Books. C.Sports. D.Travel.
B
Some students get so nervous before a test. They do poorly even if they know the material. Sian Beilock, a professor at the University of Chicago in Illinois, has studied these highly anxious test-takers. The students start worrying about the results. And when we worry, it actually uses up attention and memory resources.
Professor Beilock and another researcher, Gerardo Ramirez, have developed a possible solution. Just before an exam, highly anxious test-takers spend ten minutes writing about their worries about the test.
The researchers tested the idea on a group of twenty anxious college students. They gave them two short math tests. After the first one, they asked the students to either sit quietly or write about their feelings about the upcoming second test.
Professor Beilock says those who sat quietly scored an average of 12% worse on the second test. But the students who had written about their fears improved their performance by an average of 5%. Next, the researchers used younger students in a biology class. They told them before final exams either to write about their feelings or to think about things unrelated to the test. Professor Beilock says highly anxious students who did the writing got an average grade of B , compared to a B for those who did not.
“What we showed is that for students who are highly test-anxious, who'd done our writing intervention (干预), all of a sudden there was no relationship between test fear and performance. They were performing just as well as their classmates who don't normally get nervous in these tests.”
But what if students do not have a chance to write about their fears immediately before an exam Professor Beilock says students can try it themselves at home or in the library and still improve their performance.
24.What do the students start worrying about before an exam
A.Whether they can pass the exam.
B.What other students do during the test.
C.Whether they have remembered the materials.
D.What kind of problems they will meet on the test paper.
25.What is the solution developed by researchers
A.Making the students focused on the test.
B.Asking the students to sit quietly before the test.
C.Having the students write about their worries about the test.
D.Asking the students to direct the attention away from the test.
26.According to Professor Beilock, those who thought about things unrelated to the test ________.
A.became less nervous before the test
B.did worse than those who wrote about their feelings
C.were better at controlling their feelings
D.did better than those who wrote about their feelings
27.We can infer from the last paragraph that ________.
A.writing about our worries before an exam can work a bit
B.we can only write about our worries right before an exam
C.the best place to write about our worries is in the test room before an exam
D.it doesn’t matter where and when we write about our worries before an exam

After bikes and umbrellas are made sharable across China, some companies started eyeing the fitness market, so shared gym rooms have hit the streets in Beijing.
Unlike common gyms that provide large, open spaces for many members to share at the same time, the newly built shared gym rooms are small, stand-alone (独立的) rooms for a person to use, often set up near living communities.
Every four-square-meter room provides a treadmill (跑步机), an air cleaner, a mirror, a television and an air conditioner, and users can let down the curtains (窗 帘) for privacy. When exercising, users can listen to music, watch movies and check emails by connecting to the Internet by the screen fixed on the treadmill. But there’s no shower.
Similar to using a shared bike, users can locate (定位) a shared gym room by a smartphone app, book a room in advance and then need to scan a QR code (二维码) for use. A refundable deposit (保证金) of 99 yuan is required, and users are charged 1 yuan every 5 minutes.
The shared gym rooms are created by Misspao, a Beijing-based technology company founded in July. Within several months since it was founded, the company has already raised over 100 million yuan. However, the idea of the shared fitness experience is not totally nascent. Last December, the company VRUN set up shared treadmills in office and apartment buildings.
The sharing economy is still becoming popular in China. According to Yicai Global, confident people are pouring millions into sharing start-ups. In March, the State Information Center published a report which predicts that the total value of China’s sharing economy will see a yearly growth of 40% in the coming years, and it is expected to make a great contribution to the country’s GDP.
28.What makes the shared gym room different from the common one
A.Holding one person at a time. B.Standing in the living zone.
C.Offering open spaces. D.Having some advanced equipment.
29.What do people need to do to use the shared gym room
A.Let down curtains for privacy.
B.Pay 100 yuan first.
C.Use a smartphone to book a room ahead of time.
D.Have a shower before exercise.
30.What does the underlined word “nascent” in paragraph 5 mean
A.Simple. B.Popular. C.Satisfying. D.New.
31.What is the author’s purpose of writing the text
A.To advertise a technology company. B.To introduce shared gym rooms.
C.To support the shared gym rooms. D.To predict the future of shared gym rooms.

Can you think of someone who is an excellent communicator He must have good skills of speaking confidently in various situations, including presentations, group discussions and activities. Also, he should be good at listening to others, understanding group dynamics, and promoting shared decision-making.
Research on classroom-based group work reveals a paradox (悖论): while cooperative learning can be highly effective, merely placing children in groups often proves unproductive. The solution lies in teaching children how to cooperate effectively. Teachers play a crucial role in this process through their interaction with students.
To ensure effective group work, teachers must first raise students’ awareness of the purpose and value of group activities. More importantly, they need to teach students how to engage in reasoned discussions, known as Exploratory Talk. This involves considering everyone’s viewpoints, justifying opinions with reasons, and making collective decisions. In Exploratory Talk, participants engage critically but constructively with each other’s ideas, invite contributions, and seek further explanations.
Successful cooperation requires a reasoned discussion, which can be facilitated by establishing a set of “Ground Rules” for Exploratory Talk. These rules guide behaviors such as asking for information, seeking and providing reasons, and evaluating proposals. Ground Rules help children work towards joint conclusions, respect opinions, and develop their ideas. For instance, children learn to ask, “What do you think Why ” and listen attentively to each other’s responses, reaching reasoned conclusions.
Exploratory Talk enhances group activities as a powerful learning tool. Certain activities, like Talking Points, are particularly effective in stimulating such discussions. Talking Points are inspiring statements designed to encourage children to share their knowledge and uncertainties on a specific topic. Research indicates that Talking Points bring about more imaginative and extensive responses than traditional questions. They help children focus on the topic and compare their viewpoints with others. As they discuss, children realize that their ideas can develop with new evidence and that classmates are valuable resources for new thinking. With proper guidance, the students will soon begin to see their ideas flowing. And gradually they will learn to participate fully not only in education but also in life as well.
32.What may help solve the group work paradox
A.Active interaction among teachers. B.Group learning among students.
C.Teachers’ effective guidance. D.Students’ deep engagement.
33.Why should Ground Rules be set for the students
A.To popularize group activities. B.To build up their individuality.
C.To stimulate more proposals. D.To encourage reasoning in talks.
34.What can be inferred from the last paragraph
A.Students should be challenged with uncertainties.
B.Traditional questions should be avoided in classes.
C.Well-designed brainstorming matters in group activities.
D.Idea exchanges between the students deserve top priority.
35.Which of the following is a suitable title for the text
A.Why putting children in groups doesn’t always work
B.What effects a good communicator has on discussion
C.Whether teachers should use Exploratory Talk or not
D.Where students’ participation in activities should go
Slow travel is about connecting deeply with your travels. Rather than rushing from one place to another, slow travelers treat each experience as an opportunity to learn and feel more deeply to the people, culture, and food they want to explore. 36 Relax and enjoy
Once, a vacation provided relaxation from the stress of everyday life. But over time, we began trying to put everything we want into a checklist. 37 Slow travel exchanges checklists for the chance to really enjoy a place. It’s amazing how much more involved you can be when you’re not in a rush. It’s easier to relax and look forward to whatever the day brings. Have more memorable experiences
If you’re used to jumping from one attraction after another, the idea of slow travel may feel like you’ll miss the latest Top 10. In fact, you free yourself from scratching the surface of everything without enjoying anything. 38 Go to one museum and study the art and architecture, get the backstory rather than running through three museums and taking some photos quickly. Appreciate the destination. Meet people and actually get to know them
When you decide to take the slow travel route, you free yourself up to meet and spend time with others. You can meet locals at a park or restaurant and enjoy a conversation. Learn about the people on your food tour. You may even decide that you like someone enough to meet him/her later for lunch or a coffee. 39 because you are not rushing to the next big thing.
40
Traveling by plane, train, and bus has a bad effect on the environment. We can transport ourselves to one location and spend more time exploring it on foot, by bike or on horseback. That’s less harmful to the planet than rushing to the next thing on the list with whatever vehical that will get us there in a hurry.
A.Be more eco-friendly.
B.Experience different means of transportation.
C.This created more stress than we were escaping.
D.Making a checklist makes your journey more organized.
E.Slow travel allows you the time to feel a destination.
F.Here are some reasons we think you need to try slow travel.
G.Your communication tends to be more relaxed and more real.

It’s hard to put into words how much of a sense of freedom I get from being outdoors and in the wilderness. If I’m 41 by buildings for too long, I get a bit anxious. I need to see a field, a river or a mountain 42 in front of me.
Spending time outdoors is a wonderful 43 , I like nothing more than getting to the end of a day spent outdoors and 44 the ache in my legs from a long walk. It helps me sleep and is far more 45 than training in a gym.
There are so many 46 walks to choose from all over the UK. We live on a tiny island, relatively speaking, but the scenery we have here easily 47 some of the most beautiful in the world. We are extremely 48 : on our doorstep we have beaches, rivers, hills and mountains.
Thanks to the light and the weather, the same walk can feel very different 49 the time of year you do it. But for breathtaking views whatever the 50 is, I’d recommend Cow and Calf Rocks on Ilk-ley Moor in West Yorkshire. It’s quite a challenge climbing them, which is why doing so feels more daring than a normal walk and offers 51 that you don’t get from following a gentle path. It’s perfect if you want a workout as well as fresh air and gives you the chance to get up high and 52 a view that changes all year round.
Otley Chevin in West Yorkshire is another 53 climb that offers beautiful views. And like Cow and Calf Rocks, it is within easy 54 of the nearby town. But being Cambrian, my heart will always belong to the Lake District. I grew up walking those fells in all weathers and seasons, and I think there is nothing more 55 than a big hill walk that gets your lungs burning and brings you to a view you’ve never seen before.
41.A.crowded B.surrounded C.impressed D.involved
42.A.disappearing B.revealing C.emerging D.floating
43.A.experience B.expectation C.arrangement D.ambition
44.A.doubting B.curing C.feeling D.removing
45.A.harmful B.beneficial C.graceful D.pitiful
46.A.powerful B.grateful C.confusing D.amazing
47.A.rivals B.highlights C.escapes D.explores
48.A.lucky B.tense C.certain D.tough
49.A.picking up B.depending on C.contrasting with D.getting over
50.A.season B.custom C.emotion D.response
51.A.curiosity B.excitement C.encouragement D.indication
52.A.put on B.give off C.take in D.set up
53.A.challenging B.exhausting C.moving D.annoying

Jack was awakened by a gunshot. He looked out toward the frozen lake. Near the trees he saw a shining piece of metal. When it moved, Jack saw that it was a long gun. A minute later, a man wearing hunting clothes came out of the woods.
Suddenly a bird flew upward. The man quickly raised the gun and shot at it. Jack watched the bird, praying it had not been hurt. It flew near the ground and went into some tall bushes. The hunter didn’t move for a moment. Then he began to look for the bird.
“No hunting!” Jack came out in his nightclothes and shouted. “No hunting on my land!” The man called back, “Where can I hunt ” Jack said, “Go South!” And then he pointed in the direction behind the man. The hunter started to walk away.
After a while, Jack had just finished putting on his clothes when he heard another gunshot. He walked toward the lake. Fighting was the last thing he wanted, but the man must go. Suddenly he heard a bird s wings beating the dry grass. Jack moved quickly towards the sound. He saw a colored head... the head of a beautiful bird. The bird flapped its wings, one of which was broken completely.
Jack decided to take the bird home and treat its broken wing so that it could fly again. He was almost going through the woods when he heard the hunter behind him. “You have just found that bird ” the hunter asked, stepping closer, and said, “Give me that bird!”
“Leave here and don’t follow me,” Jack told him. The man’s face got red. “Mister,” he said, “I have been hunting here all my life. I grew up here.” Jack looked into the hunter’s gray eyes and raised his voice, “I do not know who you are and I do not care. I own this place and I am telling you to leave!” “Now look, Mister,” the hunter insisted, “be reasonable.” He raised his gun. A cold wind blew across Jack’s face. He felt a chill (冷风) going down his spine (脊柱).
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;

Jack stood there and became calm with the bird in his arms.

根据最后一段“But what if students do not have a chance to write about their fears immediately before an exam Professor Beilock says students can try it themselves at home or in the library and still improve their performance.(但是,如果学生没有机会在考试前立即写下他们的恐惧呢?贝洛克教授说,学生们可以在家里或图书馆自己尝试,仍然可以提高他们的成绩。)”可知,在考试前,我们在何时何地写下我们的担忧并不重要。故选D。

【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了在中国出现的新兴产业:共享健身房,以及共享健身房的一些特点和使用方法,以及这个项目的创立过程等。
28.细节理解题。根据第二段“Unlike common gyms that provide large, open spaces for many members to share at the same time, the newly built shared gym rooms are small, stand-alone (独立的) rooms for a person to use, often set up near living communities. (普通健身房为许多会员同时提供大而开放的空间,而新建的共享健身房是供个人使用的小而独立的房间,通常设置在生活社区附近。)”可知,共享健身房不同于普通健身房,它一次容纳一个人,故选A。
29.细节理解题。根据第四段“Similar to using a shared bike, users can locate (定位) a shared gym room by a smartphone app, book a room in advance and then need to scan a QR code (二维码) for use. (与使用共享单车类似,用户可以通过智能手机应用程序找到共享健身房,提前预订房间,然后扫描二维码使用。)”可知人们需要使用智能手机提前预订房间才能使用共享健身房,故选C。
30.词句猜测题。根据划线词下文“Last December, the company VRUN set up shared treadmills in office and apartment buildings. (去年12月,VRUN公司在办公楼和公寓楼里设置了共享跑步机。)”可推断上文“However, the idea of the shared fitness experience is not totally nascent.”
通读全文,尤其第一段“After bikes and umbrellas are made sharable across China, some companies started eyeing the fitness market, so shared gym rooms have hit the streets in Beijing.

根据第三段“To ensure effective group work, teachers must first raise students’ awareness of the purpose and value of group activities. More importantly, they need to teach students how to engage in reasoned discussions, known as Exploratory Talk.(为了确保有效的小组工作,教师必须首先提高学生对小组活动的目的和价值的认识。更重要的是,他们需要教学生如何进行理性的讨论,也就是所谓的探索性谈话)”可知,教师的有效指导可以帮助解决小组工作悖论。故选C。
33.细节理解题。根据第四段“Successful cooperation requires a reasoned discussion, which can be facilitated by establishing a set of “Ground Rules” for Exploratory Talk. These rules guide behaviors such as asking for information, seeking and providing reasons, and evaluating proposals. Ground Rules help children work towards joint conclusions, respect opinions, and develop their ideas.(成功的合作需要理性的讨论,这可以通过建立一套探索性谈话的“基本规则”来促进。这些规则指导诸如询问信息、寻找并提供理由以及评估建议等行为。基本规则帮助孩子们得出共同的结论,尊重意见,并发展他们的想法)”可知,为学生制定基本规则是为了在谈话中鼓励推理。故选D。
34.推理判断题。根据最后一段“Exploratory Talk enhances group activities as a powerful learning tool. They help children focus on the topic and compare their viewpoints with others.(探索性谈话作为一种强大的学习工具,加强了小组活动。某些活动,如“谈话要点”,在激发此类讨论方面特别有效。谈话要点是鼓舞人心的陈述,旨在鼓励孩子们分享他们对特定主题的知识和不确定性。研究表明,谈话要点比传统问题能带来更有想象力和更广泛的回答。它们帮助孩子专注于主题,并将自己的观点与他人的观点进行比较)”可知,精心设计的头脑风暴在小组活动中很重要。故选C。
35.主旨大意题。根据第二段“Research on classroom-based group work reveals a paradox (悖论): while cooperative learning can be highly effective, merely placing children in groups often proves unproductive.(对课堂小组作业的研究揭示了一个悖论:虽然合作学习可以非常有效,但仅仅将孩子们分组往往被证明是无效的)”结合文章主要解释了什么是小组工作悖论,以及教室如何来解决这一悖论,让小组学习变得有效。 故选A。

欣赏目的地)”可知,E项“Slow travel allows you the time to feel a destination.(慢速旅行让你有时间去感受目的地)”承接上文,并引出下文,其中destination为多次复现。故选E项。
39.根据前文“When you decide to take the slow travel route, you free yourself up to meet and spend time with others. You can meet locals at a park or restaurant and enjoy a conversation. Learn about the people on your food tour. You may even decide that you like someone enough to meet him/her later for lunch or a coffee.(当你决定走慢速旅行路线时,你就可以腾出时间和别人见面。
40.分析设空可知,空处是本段小标题,根据后文“Traveling by plane, train, and bus has a bad effect on the environment. We can transport ourselves to one location and spend more time exploring it on foot, by bike or on horseback. That’s less harmful to the planet than rushing to the next thing on the list with whatever vehical that will get us there in a hurry.(乘飞机、火车和公共汽车旅行对环境有不好的影响。我们可以把自己带到一个地方,花更多的时间步行、骑自行车或骑马去探索它。这对地球的危害要比开着任何能让我们快速到达那里的交通工具匆忙去做清单上的下一件事要小)”可知,本段主要讲述了,慢速旅行会更环保,所以A项“Be more eco-friendly.(更加环保)”是本段小标题。故选A项。

67.One possible version:
Jack stood there and became calm with the bird in his arms. The bird struggled weakly and made a wild, strange sound. The sound made Jack’s heart ache. It seemed as if he could sense the bird’s fear and helplessness. Holding it tightly in his arms, Jack knew that he just couldn’t give up this tiny life. He raised his eyes and looked directly into the hunter’s. The steady gaze sent a strong message to the hunter that by no means would he give in. And then to Jack’s great relief, the hunter began to walk away slowly.
The hunter looked back from time to time and Jack signaled to him to leave quickly. Jack watched until the hunter was gone and then he went to the house. He carefully laid the bird on the soft pillow, applied some medicine to the wound and bandaged its broken wing. With his careful nursing, the bird gradually recovered. One day Jack returned to find it eagerly flapping its wings, and he knew it was time to set it free.
