An old saying used for forecasting (预测) the weather says, “Red sky at night, sailors' delight. Red sky in the morning, sailors (水手) take warning.” Is the saying true It turns out that it is.A red sky at sunset may mean that there are clear skies to the west, where the sun sets.A red sky at sunrise usually means that the clear weather has already passed, so storms might be coming.
Forecasting the weather has been practiced for thousands of years. In the 5th century BC, the Greeks sent out forecasts to sailors. ①Is the summer vacation long enough to turn life for the better Every person has his own talents and interests. Find something you care about, and you will see the difference.
②Organize a clean-up program. People often throw litter in the place where there is already litter. This leaves the community in a mess. The environment will become better if someone volunteers to help. You could pick up the rubbish with your friends once a week in your neighborhood. You could also help take care of the plants every few days. Surely, a clean and tidy neighborhood will be worth the work.
③Show your love to the old. Our city has some old people's homes. Without children around them, the old people there might feel lonely once in a while. Maybe they need your help. In fact, you can do a lot for them. For example, you can talk with them or play games with them. Listening to them carefully is also a good idea. Some old people can't see clearly and they would like you to read to them. No matter what small things you do, you can make them feel loved.
④Set up a reading project with your friends. Share your favorite books with them.Besides, you may read aloud to each other and talk about what you read. Either a book or an article can spark a lively discussion and your further thinking. The process often challenges more people to take action. The project is also a good way to welcome newcomers. At the same time, you may find new friends with similar hobbies.

Along with firewood, rice, oil, salt, sauce and vinegar, tea is considered as one of the seven necessities for life in China. Now, it has also won global recognition (认可) as a shared cultural treasure of humans.
On Nov.29, Chinese traditional tea processing skills and their related social practices were added to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage (非物质文化遗产) List. Since ancient times, Chinese people have been planting, picking, making and drinking tea.
More importantly, China's tea culture has formed Chinese customs. It is Chinese traditional custom that a host should welcome visiting guests with boiled tea.A poem by Song poet Du Lei reads, “I offer tea, not wine, to a guest on a cold night. When water boils on the stove, fire burns with flame bright (寒夜客来茶当酒,竹炉汤沸火初红).”
Boiling tea is one of the oldest Chinese tea brewing methods, dating back to the Tang Dynasty (618—907). Tea leaves were boiled for a long time and sometimes they were cooked together with other things. Later in the Ming Dynasty (1368—1644), a faster and more convenient method became more popular—steeping (冲泡).
These days, the old method is making a comeback. On an online App, there are over 40,000 posts on the topic of “stove-boiled tea (围炉煮茶)”. They lightly roast tea leaves before boiling them in a teapot on a stove. People sit around the stove in a natural setting and have snacks with their hot tea. Some also wear traditional hanfu as if it could take them back to those ancient times. Through “stove-boiled tea”, people can taste a slower life and find their inner peace. As is written in a post, “It is very relaxing to drink hot tea, feel the fall breeze, and chat with best friends.”

Have you ever seen the movie Pirates of the Caribbean (《加勒比海盗》) Do you still remember the pirates always wear eye patches Do you wonder why they wear them Let me show you the secrets.
People may think pirates wear eye patches because they lose an eye or try to look cool. However, the eye patch most likely has nothing to do with a missing eye, but with being able to see clearly—especially above decks (甲板) and below them.
Jim Sheedy, a Doctor of Vision Science (视觉科学), told the Wall Street Journal that our eyes can adapt (适应) quickly when going from darkness to light, but it can take up to 25 minutes for them to adapt when going from bright light to darkness.
Pirates always had to move above and below decks on their ships, from daylight to near darkness.Doctor Sheedy says the smart pirates wear an eye patch over one eye to keep it dark-adapted outside. When pirates go below decks, they can change the patch to the outdoor eye and see in the darkness easily. It also helps them fight the enemies below decks when they take up their ships.
Though we can't find clear proof (证明) from history, there's no doubt that keeping one eye dark-adapted really works. Some researchers tested this in 2007 and believed that it worked. Even the FAA (美国联邦航空管理局) agrees that “a pilot should close one eye when using a light at night to help keep their night vision in good condition.”

甲骨文里的灿烂文明
How do we know about things that happened thousands of years ago We all know that there were no cameras at that time. One answer is written records. The earliest written records of Chinese civilization (文明) are named as oracle bone inscriptions.
More than 3,600 years ago, people in the Shang Dynasty (1600 BC—1046 BC) liked to ask augurs(占卜师) things about the future. For example, what will the weather be like next week How can I make more money Will my wife give birth to a boy or a girl From work to life, people asked questions about many topics. Augurs would write the questions on oracle bones, heat them up, and then read the cracks (裂纹) on them to find the answers.
Tens of thousands of oracle bones have been found so far. They can tell us a great deal about how people lived during the Shang Dynasty. They help us understand the origins of Chinese philosophy(哲学), and figure out where Chinese culture comes from.
