Laura: Cynthia, my parents always want to know what I’m doing and where I am every minute of the day. It’s really upsetting because I want more freedom. What do you think I should do
Cynthia: Laura, I understand that you’re unhappy. It’s normal for someone your age to feel that way. But it’s parents’ job to protect their child from harm. I think you can try looking at things from their point of view.
Laura: I see. Do you think that I should let them know I understand they love me, but that there are side effects of their overprotectiveness
Cynthia: Yes, I think So. I suggest that you show your parents how responsible you can be. Tell them not to worry
about you when you’re out with your friends. It might be a good idea for you and your parents to agree on when you should be home when you do go out.
Laura: OK, I’ll do that. Do you have any other suggestions
Cynthia: I do! You should also assure them that you’ll let them know when you need their help.
Laura: Thanks Cynthia! I’Il let you know how it goes!
