八年级上学期英语阅读与书面表达强化训练
一、阅读理解
Language changes all the time. New words and phrases appear and develop. The words and pronunciations used by young people in the UK can be very different to those used by adults. Living in a multicultural society (多元文化的社会)has an effect on language, especially on young people, whose friends are often from different countries. TV and music also have big influence on the language of the young. Often UK singers sing in American accents (口音) without realizing.
Young British people use lots of language that you usually can't find in most dictionaries. These informal (非正式的)words and expressions are known as 'slang' (俚语). It is not possible to make a complete list of modem British slang. By the time the list was finished, it would be out of date! New words come and go like fashions. However, here are a few examples.
◇Safe, sorted, sound, cool or wicked all mean "That's good" or "I understand" .
◇Instead of using different tag questions like… "isn't it " , "can't you " , or "don't they " people use innit.
◇Instead of saying "very, really" or "completely" , people use well.
◇Whatever means "I don't care" .
◇'He's fine' or 'He's fit' both mean 'He's good-looking'. Fine and fit can describe a boy or a girl.
Not everybody uses slang and not everybody likes it. A school in Sheffield, in the north of England, recently stopped its pupils using slang words such as hiya (hello), cheers and ta (both mean thank you). The head teacher says that if young people learn to speak 'correctly',this will help them get a place at university and a good job.
When British people use language like this, it's no surprise that some students say they can't understand native (本土的) speakers. But perhaps learners don't need to worry about communicating with native speakers so much. Research shows that most of the English spoken in the world today is spoken between non-native speakers of the language. In fact, when we think about “International English”, there is no such thing as native or non-native speaker.
1. In the UK, you can find little slang in ___________________________.
A. pop songs B. TV programmes. C. most dictionaries D. young people’s language
2. The writer uses the examples of a school in Sheffield to support that_________________
A. slang is out of date B. slang is changing quickly.

3. Which slang can be used in the following dialogue
---But the teacher says we can’t leave until we’ve finished.
----__________. I’m going.
A. Sound B. Fine C. Cheers D Whatever
4. What can we know from the passage
A. Learning English slang will help young people get a good job.
B. It is impossible to make a complete list of modern British slang.
C. Young British people speak slang less than adults.
D. There is too much slang when learners communicate with non-native speakers.

(2020·江苏·南通市启秀中学八年级期中)After releasing (发布) a short video on April 27 about planting and cooking peas (豌豆), Chinese food blogger Li Ziqi witnessed (见证) over 10 million followers on YouTube.
“It’s really surprising. I didn’t expect such a wide response (反应),” Li told Xinhua in an interview, noting she was surprised by how foreign netizens liked her works.
“What I present is just a lifestyle I’ve long followed and appreciated,” she said. “Maybe it’s also what many other people have valued ”
Li’s YouTube videos center on her life with her grandmother in the rural (乡村的) parts of Sichuan Province. In the videos, Li, often dressed in graceful traditional clothes, rises at sunrise, rests at sunset, plants seeds and harvests flowers, cooks Chinese dishes and makes bamboo furniture.
Unlike many other food bloggers, Li’s videos set China’s countryside as the stage and start with how the foods are planted and harvested on the farm. She rarely speaks in the process.
Li’s overseas followers have praised her videos for showing the amazingly picturesque, simple and elegant side of China’s rural life, but back home, there have long been debates (争论) on whether her presentation is unrealistically (不切实际地) poetic.
In response, Li, who was raised in the countryside, said she never needs a script (副本) or special arrangements (安排) when shooting a video about rural life as “everything is in my mind”.
“In the countryside, planting flowers, vegetables and trees is not difficult. There are tough elements of rural life of course, but I didn’t put them in my videos,” the blogger said. “Most people today are facing great stress in work and life, so I hope they can feel relaxed when watching my videos.”

(19-20八年级上·江苏苏州·期中)Everyone has to give gifts at some time or another, and Ms. Post tells us just what to do in each situation (情况). Whether it is a birthday party for a friend, or coworker, there are some basic rules the gift-giver and the receiver should follow.
Giving money is a trouble among gift-givers. “When is it proper (恰当) When is it rude ” Some people see a gift of money as a sign of a gift-giver who is too lazy to go out and find a proper gift. However, this is not always the case. Sometimes money is better than a gift that the receiver does not need or cannot use. For example, people who must live on a low income (收入) may find a small gift of money as a wonderful present. For those who are uncomfortable with giving cash, gift cards to popular stores may also be a good choice (选择).
Giving flowers can be a wonderful gift for both men and women. For occasions such as weddings and dinner parties, flowers are often required. When going to a dinner party, a host or hostess may not have the time to run off and find a vase for fresh-cut flowers to put in brought by a thoughtful guest. Bringing the flowers in a prepared vase can save the host or hostess the trouble. If a gift of flowers seems not so good for a man to receive, a plant is another choice the gift-giver may consider.
Sometimes, the person holding the party may make it clear that no gift is needed or wanted. It is common sense (常识) that guests should do so. Guests who bring a gift may seem rude. The giving of a gift in these situations will only make the host or hostess and the other guests who follow the host's or hostess’s suggestion uncomfortable. Be sure that you are not one of the rule-breakers.
1.What does the passage suggest as a good gift for a man instead of flowers
2.According to the passage, when shouldn’t guests bring a gift
3.Would you like to receive money as a gift on your birthday party Why or why not

(23-24八年级上·江苏苏州·期中)It’s easy for people to catch a cold in the springtime or fall. It makes us wonder: If scientists can send a man to the moon, why can’t they find a cure (治愈) for the common cold The answer is that there are actually different cold viruses (病毒) out there, and you never know which one you will get, so there isn’t a cure for each one.
When a virus attacks (袭击) your body, your body works hard to get rid of it. Blood rushes to your nose and causes a block in it. You feel terrible because you can’t breathe well, but your body is actually eating the virus. Your temperature goes up and you get a fever, but the heat of your body is killing the virus. You also have a runny nose to stop the virus from getting into your cells. You may feel very uncomfortable, but actually your wonderful body is doing everything it can to kill the cold.
Different people do different things to deal with colds. In the United States and some other countries, for example, people might have ice cubes to help get their temperature lower. Some people take hot baths and drink warm liquids. Other people take medicine to stop different symptoms of colds. There is one interesting thing to note (注意) —— some scientists say taking medicine when you have a cold is actually bad for you. The virus stays in your body longer because your body doesn’t have a way to fight it and kill it. Bodies can do an amazing job on their own. There is a joke, however, on taking medicine when you have a cold. It goes like this:
It takes about one week to get over a cold if you don’t take medicine, but it takes seven days to get over a cold if you take medicine.
1.When is it easy for many people to catch a cold
2.How might Americans deal with colds
3.When you have a cold, what do you usually do And why

(23-24八年级上·北京海淀·期中)阅读短文内容,然后回答问题。
Do you like to travel alone Or do you think it’s better to travel with friends If you’re still deciding, please read on. I will explain the advantages of both ways.
One of the great things about traveling alone is that you can decide where you go and what you eat. You’ll be surprised at what you discover about yourself without any influence.
Traveling alone really shows you what you’re made of and helps you to discover inner strength you didn’t know you had. Besides, it also gives you time to think, learn and grow. When your eyes are wide open, you’ll get a whole new outlook on the world.
It’s easy to think that traveling alone is lonely. Although that may sometimes be true, you’re hardly ever alone. When you travel in a one-person team, this can provide a chance for you to enjoy the most interesting part of travel—communicating with the local people.
In fact, traveling to know more about the world is not easy. There’s research to be done, flights to be booked and choices to be made. One of the main advantages of traveling with friends is being able to share these things and support each other through the process, even if it’s just someone who will wait with your bag when you go to the bathroom.
Just as your mother always says, it’s true that traveling with others can give you a sense of safety, especially if you’re new to travel. You know that if you get lost or have your wallet stolen, there’s someone to hold your hand when you try to explain your situation in a foreign police station. There’s no right or wrong way to travel. Whether you travel alone or team up with friends, it is up to you.
1.What can you decide when you travel alone
2.According to the writer, what is the most interesting part of travelling in a one-person team
3.Why isn’t it easy to know more about the world by traveling
4.Do you prefer to travel alone or travel with friends Why (List at least two reasons.)
