We think of kids playing video games as being in a sort of loneliness, and locked in their darkened bedrooms. In truth, they are usually communicating with other gamers, via audio or text, about the action on the screen. And sometimes the chatter shifts from the world of fantasy to real life.
That's what happened to 14-year-old Reilly Howard from East Hampton, Connecticut last October. While playing Counter-Strike:Global Offensive, he was aware that an online friend, a 13-year-old from Florida, was not his normal self. Reilly's sixth sense was confirmed when the friend messaged him, “Yo, we need to talk.” Reilly immediately called him.
“He started to open up about what was going on in his life:‘I have nothing to live for;I'm going to kill myself.’” Reilly told . “He couldn't even talk—he was crying so much.” Unable to verbally convey his sufferings, Reilly's friend typed out, “Tonight is going to be the night.”
Suicide is a lot to throw at a high school kid, but Reilly, a sophomore(高中二年级学生) at the time, resolved to stay on the line for as long as he was needed. “I knew he didn't want to be alone, and I didn't want him to go,” he told WFSB.“He's my friend. I didn't want him to die.”
For two hours, Reilly said everything he could think of to persuade his friend to embrace life.“I just kept comforting him: ‘You've got a lot to live for. I'll see you tomorrow and I'm going to be playing with you tomorrow. You promise nothing is going to happen tonight.’”
At about that time, Reilly's parents came home from dinner. He filled them in, and they contacted the Florida police, who tracked down the boy.
The troubled teen is doing well now, thanks to a good friend—one he'd never met in person—who was willing to put down the keyboard and lend an ear. Reilly's mother Sheila says, “You just have to show up and talk to people. And listen.”

Social media allows teenagers to create online identities, communicate with others and build social networks. These networks can provide teenagers with valuable support. Teenagers also use social media for entertainment and self-expression. And the platforms can expose teenagers to current events, allow them to communicate across geographic barriers and teach them about different kinds of subjects. However, social media use can also negatively affect teenagers, distracting them, influencing their sleep, and exposing them to bullying(欺凌行为), rumour(谣言) spreading, untrue views of other people's lives and peer pressure.
There are steps you can take to encourage the responsible use of social media and limit some of its negative effects.
Set reasonable limits. Talk to your teenager about how to avoid letting social media affect his or her activities, sleep, meals or homework. Encourage a bedtime routine that avoids electronic media use, and keep cellphones and iPads out of teenagers' bedrooms. Set an example by following these rules yourself.
Monitor your teenager's accounts. Let your teenager know that you'll be regularly checking his or her social media accounts. You might aim to do so once a week or more. And make sure you follow through.
Explain what's not OK. Discourage your teenager from gossiping, spreading rumours, bullying someone or damaging someone's reputation—online or otherwise. Talk to your teenager about what is appropriate and safe to share on social media.
Encourage face-to-face contact with friends. This is particularly significant for teenagers who are easily hurt by social anxiety disorder.
Talk about social media. Talk about your own social media habits. Ask your teenager how he or she is using social media and how it makes him or her feel. Remind your teenager that social media is full of unrealistic images.
If you think your teenager is experiencing the anxiety or depression related to social media use, talk to your child's health care provider immediately.

Well, let's continue from where we stopped last time. I'm sure you're well aware of the dangers lurking(潜伏) on the World Wide Web. And whether it's for schoolwork, entertainment, or just socializing with friends, the Internet will surely be a major part of your child's life. So, it's important to secure their online stays.
It's not an easy task, but maintaining open communication is key. Let them know they can share their online activities with you. Discuss what interests them online and learn about popular websites and apps from them. This will help you understand and identify potential risks.
Next, monitor without spying. Most kids learn to understand boundaries, like respecting others' personal space, or not opening the cookie jar without asking. Internet use is no different. It's helpful to set clear rules for them, like which websites they can visit, which apps they can use, and what they can share online. Remind them that if they feel uneasy about anything that occurs online, they need to alert(使警觉) an adult immediately.
How you handle your kids' Internet usage will depend in large part on their age. There are websites and browsing tools designed for younger children, such as YouTube Kids, which aims to provide a safe online experience for children. Older kids may be allowed more freedom since they want to socialize and need to use the Internet for information gathering. But you can set boundaries that feel right for you. Just limit their access appropriately.
Allowing your children to make good decisions online teaches them responsibility, shows that you trust them and reminds them that rules may be tightened if they disobey them. Stay tuned.

This is great if you think about how connected we can stay to the 46 who are far away from us. However, on the contrary, can we be too connected to the people who are 47 to us An argument arose about the 48 that it is easier to message someone from your sofa than to meet them 49 and talk. Social skills are important to have and if you are not going to put effort into real-life 50 , then you are not going to progress in this ability.
Another point is that phones are very handy for 51 something that you are wondering about. This can be very 52 in many situations, but it can also make a person depend on the 53 to help with anything.
All in all, this question is very interesting to 54 for oneself as we become day by day more dependent on technology. We should realize how much we really need to be connected by our phones while considering the 55 and damages it can cause us.

  阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Joy, a ten-year-old boy who loves nature, is always ready to help others, whether animals or humans. For example, he is always keeping water in a large basin in his yard for watering the birds and other animals.
One noon, he was playing on the grass in a bushy garden after school. He enjoyed chirping(叽喳叫) birds, colorful butterflies, and a squirrel playing on the coconut trees. It was their own free kingdom, and Joy felt like an outsider. He decided to give them space to enjoy freely.
So he found an open grass and lay down, feeling like sunbathing on a greeny beach. Under the hot sun, Joy covered the eyes with his soft palms(手掌). His mind flew and he thought about his class teacher Miss Shyla's homework task—to do a good deed every day.
Joy stretched(伸出) out his hands, fed the squirrel some biscuits and played with it. He felt the tiny eyes of the squirrel upon him. And just then, Joy saw a big rat spying on him from a hole. Upon seeing the big rat, Joy rose to his feet and ran towards the hole. Finally, he failed to find the rat and the rat hid into its hole. Joy lay down again.
As he enjoyed the greeny beach and the sight of the blue sky, he thought, “What a wonderful and blessed world it is! We humans should allow the animals to live as they wish.”
Suddenly, a tiny bird fell onto the ground before his eyes. The bird shook several times and then lost consciousness(知觉). Joy jumped up and tried his best to wake the bird up, but failed. He thought the bird had fainted(晕倒) because of the heat. He couldn't bear to see the little creature suffer and decided to take care of the bird.
注意:续写词数应为150个左右。
Joy picked up the bird and rushed back home.

At last, the bird came back to life and opened its eyes.

第四部分 写作
第一节
One possible version:
Nowadays, there are various English learning apps on the Internet. Recently, I've made a survey in my class of whether students should use these apps in their study, over which controversy among my classmates has arisen.
70% of the students are in favor of using these English learning apps. Firstly, the apps can help improve their listening as well as expand vocabulary. Moreover, they can refer to these apps whenever and wherever possible, thus broadening their horizons.
In contrast, students, accounting for 30% of the total number, hold the opposite view. They feel students tend to rely on these apps, making them unable to think independently. Worse still, some apps may contain wrong or even harmful information.
From where I stand, I contend that we students should make good use of these English learning apps.
第二节
One possible version:
Joy picked up the bird and rushed back home. As soon as he entered the house, Joy placed the bird in the shade of the living room so that it could feel cool. Ten minutes passed, but the bird did not wake up. Joy became more and more worried. After asking his mother, Joy learned that the bird might have been injured. Therefore, Joy decided to turn to the vet for help. After being examined and receiving professional treatment, the bird's condition improved.
At last, the bird came back to life and opened its eyes. Seeing the bird waking up, Joy was relieved. Unfortunately, the bird failed when attempting to fly away. Joy took the bird home, put it into a cage and took care of it carefully. A few days later, the bird finally recovered. Joy took the cage to the bushy garden, opened the cage, and released the bird. The bird flew out, chirping around Joy. Finally, it flew away freely. Recalling the good deed he had done, Joy was very happy.
