To watch movies was one of the most popular forms of entertainment in rural areas in China in the 1970s and 1980s. However, there were no cinemas in many villages at that time. Movies were displayed in the open air, mostly on a big yard in front of a temple. The minute the simple screen was set up, people gathered around, waiting for the film projectionist to turn on the two-hour magical journey of the motion pictures.
Villages and towns across China established movie teams, each equipped with two or three projectionists. In 1984, Tang Dingde acquired his projectionist certificate and began his career as a film projectionist. Tang was appointed to screen films benefiting local villagers. As a projectionist, Tang was responsible for the operation and maintenance (维护) of projection equipment. His primary role was to ensure that the audience experienced high-quality screenings. In addition to managing the projection equipment, he also checked and tackled technical issues that arose during screenings, such as film jams or equipment breakdowns. As transportation conditions were tough in townships and rural areas, Tang often took lots of time to get to remote villages to screen the films despite difficulties. Over the past four decades, Tang has organized tens of thousands of films for villagers.
Tang's son Xiaowei inherits the career as a film projectionist. As the film industry has transitioned to digital technology, Xiaowei and other projectionists now often work with computer-based systems, ensuring the proper setup and adjustment of digital projectors. It is much more convenient and easier for film projectionists to travel to the destinations and conduct their tasks nowadays. However, Xiaowei's thought to deliver a perfect and enjoyable experience for audiences is still challenging. Attention to detail, technical proficiency, and the ability to work efficiently under pressure are crucial qualities for projectionists.

The sport of tennis has a problem with waste that many players do not even recognize each time they open a new container of game balls. Major professional tennis competitions go through nearly 100,000 balls during two weeks of play. Almost all of the 330 million balls produced each year end up in waste as garbage in landfills. Once there, it can take as long as 400 years for the balls to break down.
Tennis is incredibly environmentally-destructive because the balls are not recyclable. The balls' outer soft layer, called the felt(毛毡), is strongly attached to a soft center. The felt is a combination of wool and nylon which cannot be recycled. In addition, the center of top-level balls is made with rubber from rubber trees. Rubber harvesting menaces forests and biodiversity. Once the balls are produced, they are packaged in thick plastic or aluminum containers with a metal lid and a plastic panies will intentionally use non-recyclable plastic because the recyclable kind will leak pressure. After the balls have been produced and packaged, they will get shipped all around the world. This series of events will release 1.2 pounds of carbon emissions per ball.
The International Tennis Federation(ITF) is a governing body of professional tennis. Last year the ITF brought together producers, tennis officials and recyclers to begin working on the tennis ball issue, looking for solutions. And some steps have been taken to reduce and reuse balls. Currently, professional players change to a new set of balls after the first seven games and then after every nine games. Individual used balls sometimes become playthings for dogs or are reused in other small ways. Hug e numbers of used balls can also be crushed (碾压) to pieces for use as building material, like flooring. However, it is a long way to go to enjoy an environment-friendly tennis match.

Seeing terror films is typically a harmless activity. But the fear it generates can cause the body's fight-or-flight system-releasing chemicals into the body and causing a number of physiological responses.
Our body's fear response is actually a fantastic tool for survival in dangerous situations because it kicks in fast, makes us full of energy, heightens our focus, strengthens our muscles, and gets us ready to handle whatever is coming at us. It's a built-in survival mechanism, which has been with us since our ancient ancestors. But even as it helped our ancient ancestors escape from tigers and keeps us out of harm today, activating the body's fear response isn't always a good thing. If it's initiated too often with constant stress or frequent jump scares, it can wear our bodies down.
The body's fear response, or fight-or-flight response, always begins in the amygdala -a part of the brain's system that's critical for recognizing threats and processing emotions. After it detects a threat, the amygdala sends a distress signal to a command center in the brain, which tells the nervous system to release hormones and neurotransmitters (荷尔蒙和神经递质). Research shows that these hormones and neurotransmitters work together to quicken your breathing and to make your heart send oxygen-rich blood faster to your muscles and vital organs. This prepares the muscles and brain to rapidly set up a threat response.
Indeed, when stress hormones are released too often or for long periods of time, it can wear your body down. In some people, it can lead to health issues like high blood pressure, heart problems and digestive issues, because your body is constantly in "high alarm mode".
Another consideration is that our immediate biological response to fear is the same whether we're facing true danger --or something that only appears that way. Overexposure to jump scares can make you less sensitive to fear. So people who enjoy terror films regularly might not react as strongly to real danger because their brain gets used to these situations.
32. Why are ancient ancestors mentioned
A. To admire their quick response to fear.
B. To show body's fear response is inborn.
C. To introduce tough living conditions in ancient days.
D. To demonstrate how they survived the scary situations.
33. How is paragraph 3 developed
A. By listing data. B. By giving examples.
C. By defining and comparing. D. By explaining and analyzing.
34. Which may be the result of watching terror films frequently
A. Getting tired of them. B. Doing good to health.
C. Losing interest in other films. D. Being less sensitive to real danger.
35. Which might be the best title for the text
A. Effects of Fear on Brain and Body. B. Fight or Flight
C. An Extreme Entertainment. D. Are Terror Films Harmless

After brushing your teeth, you're ready to go to bed with your book. 36 The next thing you know, you wake up and it's morning. You fall asleep while reading.
37 Get into bed in a comfortable position, make sure the light is not too bright, choose a book that is either terribly difficult or terribly boring, and you will be asleep in a few minutes. Those who are experts in relaxing with a book do not have to wait for nightfall. 38
However, the rules for keeping awake do not consist in doing just the opposite. It is possible to keep awake while reading in a comfortable chair or even in bed. And there are inspiring examples of those who overcame hardship to read late in weak candlelight. 39 One thing for certain is that it made a difference to them. Whether or not they read the book they had in hand made great sense.
Whether you manage to keep awake depends largely on your goal in reading. If your aim in reading is to profit from it to grow somehow in mind or spirit, you have to keep awake. 40 In contrast, those who go asleep over books lack the willingness to make the effort or the eagerness to gain something from the book. Therefore, reading actively with a clear purpose and strong determination is the key.
A. You open it and begin to read.
B. What keeps candlelight readers awake
C. A comfortable chair in the library will do any time.
D. What types of things do you try when you stay awake

第一节
One possible version:
Dear Glen,
Warm welcome to our class! Following your request, I've surveyed our classmates about the challenges they face in learning English.
It's clear that listening and speaking are the most significant challenges, with 80% of students finding it diffi-cult. 65% are struggling in reading and writing while 55% find pronunciation tough. Vocabulary is another area of concern, affecting 40% of us. Considering these challenges, we hope more interactive activities will be integrated into our lessons, such as roleplays and debates, which could be particularly beneficial for listening and speaking skills.
Welcome again. Keen to learn from your expertise and guidance.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
第二节
One possible version:
Sarah's suggestion was met with enthusiasm from Mary. They both knew that Maya was struggling with home-sickness, and they wanted to make her feel more at home. "Let's plan a surprise for her tomorrow," Mary whispered, her eyes sparkling with excitement. They decided to make homemade pancakes for Maya, something that would remind her of home-cooked meals. They wanted to make it clear that they were all in this together and that Maya was not alone. The next morning, Sarah and Mary woke up early and started cooking.
As Maya woke up, the pancakes were ready on the table. Maya walked out, rubbing her eyes, and was greeted by the sight of her new roommates setting the table. "Good morning, Maya!" they cheerfully greeted. Maya's eyes widened with surprise and gratitude. She couldn't believe they had gone through all this trouble just for her. As they sat down to eat, the girls chatted more openly than the night before. They shared stories about their families, their dreams, and their fears. The laughter and the warmth of the moment began to ease Maya's homesickness.
