By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

II. Teaching contents

1. Changes in Sunshine Town
Help the students to review the changes in Sunshine Town. Give them chances to show themselves in class and remind them that they should pay attention to the tense when they describe the past and the present of Sunshine Town.

1. Mr Chen’s housing
(1) Ask the students to work in pairs and make an interview about Mr Chen’s housing with the help of the chart, some pictures and some key words.
(2) Present some sentences about the changes, and ask the students to work out the rules of the simple past tense and the present perfect tense.
(3) Learn the language point—marry. Then do some exercises.
2. Facilities
(1) Ask the students to complete two passages and talk about the town’s past and present.
(2) Learn the language point—turn … into …/turn + adj. Then do some exercises.
3. Pollution
(1) Show some pictures and a video and talk about the advantages and disadvantages of development.
(2) Learn the language points—pollute, pollution and polluted. Then do some exercises.
(3) Ask the students to think over the question: What’s the development of the society? Tell them that the government has realized the problems and is trying to improve the situation.
(4) Learn the language point—improve and improvement. Then do some exercises.
(5) Have a group discussion: What does the development of the society bring us? What action can we take to improve the situation?
4. Mr Chen’s life
(1) Talk about what Mr Chen thinks of the present life. Learn more phrases about “way”. And translate two sentences.

Ask the students to use words and phrases we learnt to finish a passage about urbanization.
4. Translate the sentences
Ask the students to translate some sentences into English.
