So my grades were not great.
I never told my mother about this because I didn’t want to make more work for her. But one day, when I was about ten, I had an idea. That evening I told my mother, “You know, I don’t really like eggs. Can I make my sandwich from now on ” My mother answered, “Of course. You can make your sandwich and you can also help me make all the other sandwiches.” From this experience I learned that if you really want something, it’s OK to ask for it. Cats here, cats there, Cats and kittens, everywhere.

I grew up in a large family. I have four brothers and sisters. When I was young, my mother spent an hour every evening making lunches for all of us to take to school. My lunch was almost the same every day: an egg sandwich (三明治), some chips, an apple or a banana, and a cookie. The problem was that I never liked eggs. So I always gave my sandwich to one of my classmates. His family was poor, and he never had enough to eat. Then it would be difficult for me to concentrate in class because I was hungry.
But if you volunteer (主动提出) to do something, you should also be ready to do more work than you thought!

“If only we had a cat!” sighed the very old woman.
“A cat ” asked the very old man.
“Yes, a sweet little fluffy cat,” said the very old woman.
“I will get you a cat, my dear,” said the very old man.
And he set out over the hills to look for one. He climbed over the sunny hills. He trudged through the cool valleys. He walked a long, long time and at last he came to a hill which was quite covered with cats.
Cats here, cats there, Cats and kittens, everywhere.
Hundreds of cats, thousands of cats, millions and billions and trillions of cats.
“It would be a shame to leave that one,” said the very old man. So he took it. And now, over there, he saw a cat, which had brown and yellow stripes like a baby tiger.
“I simply must take it!” cried the very old man, and he did. He chose them all.
And so he went back to show all his pretty kittens to the very old woman. It was very funny to see those hundreds and thousands and millions and billions and trillions of cats following him.

【答案】Pretty soon the very old woman saw them coming. Cats here, cats there, cats and kittens everywhere. Millions and billions and trillions of cats. “My dear!” she cried, “I asked for one little cat. And we can never feed them all. They will eat us out of house and home.” “I never thought of that,” said the very old man, “What shall we do ”
The very old woman thought for a while and then she said, “I know! We will let the cats decide which one we should keep.” The very old man agreed and asked the cats, “Which one of you is the prettiest ” Each cat confidently thought itself the prettiest. And they began to quarrel and fight. They bit and scratched and clawed each other. After a while in the high grass sat only one little frightened kitten. It was thin and scraggly. Poor little kitty survived because it knew it was just a very homely little cat. So when the old man asked who was the prettiest, it didn’t say anything. So nobody bothered about it. Sometimes, if you don’t strive so hard and focus on yourself, happiness may quietly come to you.
