一、Teaching Objectives 1. Language skills Students will be able to understand and use the phrases and expressions related to hobbies, such as "read books", "listen to music", "dance", "play sports", etc. Students will be able to read and understand the passage about hobbies and answer the related questions. Students will be able to talk about their own hobbies and the benefits of those hobbies. Students will be able to write a short passage about their hobbies. 2. Language knowledge Key vocabulary: hobby, read, listen, dance, play, watch, take, write, creative, useful, skill Key structures: What do you like to do I like to... It makes/helps me... 3. Affective objectives Students will be encouraged to develop their own hobbies and realize the importance of hobbies in life. Students will be able to share their hobbies with others and respect the hobbies of others. 二、Teaching Key and Difficult Points 1. Teaching key points The understanding and usage of the phrases and expressions about hobbies. The comprehension of the passage and the ability to answer the questions. The expression of personal hobbies and the understanding of their benefits. 2. Teaching difficult points How to help students express their hobbies and the benefits accurately and fluently in English. How to guide students to understand and apply the sayings related to hobbies. 三、Teaching Methods 1. Communicative teaching method: Encourage students to communicate with each other in English to practice the language skills. 2. Task-based teaching method: Design various tasks to help students complete the learning objectives step by step. 3. Cooperative learning method: Arrange group activities to promote students' cooperation and interaction. 四、Teaching Procedure Step 1: Warming up (5 minutes) 1. Greetings Say hello to the students and have a simple chat to create a relaxing atmosphere. 2. Lead-in Show some pictures of different activities such as reading, dancing, playing sports, and ask students: "What are these people doing " Guide students to answer using the phrases they have learned before, like "They are reading.", "They are dancing." etc. Then ask: "Do you like to do these things What do you like to do " Step 2: Presentation (10 minutes) 1. Present the phrases Show the phrases related to hobbies on the PPT: read books, listen to music, dance, play sports, watch movies, play chess, write, take photos. Read the phrases one by one and ask students to repeat. Ask students to tick the activities they like to do on the worksheet and then share their answers with their partners. 2. Present the passage Show the passage on the PPT and ask students to read it silently. After reading, ask some questions: What's the passage about (Different people have different hobbies.) Why does the author like to play chess (It makes the author creative and happy. And the author can make many friends and discuss chess skills.) How do you understand the last sentence Can you say it in Chinese (A life without a hobby is just like food without salt. 没有爱好的生活就像没有盐的食物。) Step 3: Practice (15 minutes) 1. Group discussion Ask students to work in groups of four and discuss their hobbies and the benefits of those hobbies. They can choose words/phrases from the given lists to make sentences. For example: "I like to read books. It makes me smart." Encourage students to share their ideas within the group and take notes. 2. Sayings understanding Show the sayings related to hobbies on the PPT: "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.", "No man is really happy or safe without a hobby.", "Life is a hobby.", "Play is the work of the child.", "Play is the beginning of knowledge." Ask students to discuss with their partners and try to understand the meanings of these sayings. Invite some students to share their understandings and the teacher gives explanations and summaries. Step 4: Production (10 minutes) 1. Writing Ask students to write a short passage about their hobbies. They can use the sentence structures and words/phrases they have learned. Remind students to pay attention to the grammar and spelling. 2. Sharing Ask students to share their writings in their groups. Each group can choose one or two representatives to share with the whole class. Step 5: Summary and Homework (5 minutes) 1. Summary Summarize the key points of this lesson, including the phrases and expressions about hobbies, the passage, and the importance of hobbies. Encourage students to keep developing their hobbies and enjoy their lives. 2. Homework Ask students to interview their family members or friends about their hobbies and write down the results. Read some English articles about hobbies and collect some useful expressions.
