Jill Wheatley was a PE teacher in Germany. On the weekends she competed in marathons around Europe. But life threw her a near deadly blow. While teaching a PE class, she was hit in the head with a baseball. The impact was so great that it left her with a brain injury and 70 per cent vision loss, permanently blinding her in one eye. She spent 26months in seven different hospitals, at times wishing it would just all end.
Desperately, Wheatley set out to find comfort and healing(治疗)in nature. She travelled to Nepal where a friend convinced her to run in the Annapurna 100 with him. The power from that race changed her life and eventually had her looking up at the tops of the mountains. Project Vision 8000 was born. And she began her mission to stand on top of the world’s 14 highest mountains, towering 8, 000 metres above sea level, to show herself and others the power in choice and possibility.
Coloursand touch help guide her on the mountain and she has never once felt too tired to carry on. “The only thing constant is change, so when the weather gets really bad or a storm is coming in, I know it is going to pass.” So far, she’s had few problems standing among giants, but she admits she continues to struggle to overcome the “mountains of her mind”. Having already stared death in the face, Wheatley has great respect for the mountains and the mission she is on. But she’s not scared. The experience almost claimed her life, but it is now the driving force and fuel behind her success. At every icy peak, she smiles and takes a quick video with a breathless “so thankful”whispered into the thin air.

A.She came last in a race.
B. She was attacked in a class.

Will artificial intelligence (AI) replace my job This is a question that many people think about these days. At present, the application of Al robotics in professional fields, as well as ChatGPT’s abilities to write essays, solve complex problems and more, have heightened moral concerns.
Some people see AI as the ultimate cure for society’s most fundamental problems, while others fear that Al will overtake human intelligence. These two views are based on the assumption that AI is better and smarter than humanity and may ultimately replace human decision-making. But given the fact that technology is the product of human civilization, the challenge from AI is something we have created for ourselves as we keep pushing our own boundaries. In other words, AI’s progress, functions and future direction are all determined by the human brain.
Before AI becomes a threat to humanity, the international community should reach an agreement on the role it is to play. More importantly, related laws and regulations must ensure that AI will benefit society and prevent it from threatening human life. Robots, for example, are believed to develop emotional intelligence sometime, which enables them to recognize, understand and express emotions in a way that is similar to humans, but we must avoid AI copying human emotions. Without legal restrictions, AI may become a social disaster.
The AI-driven new industrial revolution(革命)is irreversible. This, like previous ones, which introduced changes that had been unimaginable before, will certainly affect human employment. But it always turned out humanity was able to adapt to each industrial revolution and create new forms of employment. Therefore, it’s unnecessary to worry AI will replace our jobs. While technology advances at a rapid pace, what we need to do is to welcome the AI era rather than block its unfolding for fear of the unknown.
28. Why are some people concerned about AI
A. It has been applied widely.
B. It may outsmart humans.
C. It has led to social problems.
D. It is the product of humanity.
29. How can we prevent AI’s potential threat
A. By stirring emotions.
B. By blocking functions.
C. By setting restrictions.
D. By changing regulations.
30. What does the underlined word “irreversible” in the last paragraph mean
A. Unavoidable. B. Unbelievable.
C. Unpredictable. D.Undesirable.
31. What does the writer suggest readers do with the coming of the Al era
A.Defend it unconditionally. B. Accept it passively.
C. Respond to it randomly. D. Deal with it positively.
D
Strings of letters have recently been flooding the Chinese izens have embraced the MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) personality test, using its distinctive combinations of letters to define and classify themselves and others, sparking the formation of active online communities. Initially designed as a self-assessment tool to outline personality types and preferences, the MBTI has found enormous popularity in China.
The MBTI categorizes individuals using four pairs of characteristics: introversion (I) (内向) or extroversion (E) (外向), sensing (S) or intuition (N), thinking (T) or feeling ( F), and judging (J) or perceiving (P). This leads to distinct four-letter combinations, like “ISTJ” or “INFP.” The values “E” and “I” have especially attracted public interest. Those who exhibit extroversion (E) characteristics are now humorously described as outgoing, talkative, wild, and socially skilled. They are often playfully called “social gangsters” due to their strong social skills. In contrast, those with introversion (I) are shown as quiet, reserved, reflective, and socially anxious.
Among the playful teasing, these eight seemingly simple letters have promoted deeper self-awareness and even developed a sense of friendship on social media platforms. Individuals discover their strengths and humorously acknowledge their odd behavior. Thisnewfound self-awareness not only aids in understanding their fundamental values but also offers a way to deal with the common unease that bothers today’s youth. Many find comfort in thinking, “My ongoing anxiety, over-sensitivity, and self-doubt come from being an INFP. Such characteristics are typical for this personality type; thus, I’m perfectly normal.”
Netizens often humorously note: “In everyday life, during social events, I switch between introversion and extroversion. Atwork, I initially act extroverted but gradually become more introverted. When I see someone I like, I’m extroverted in my head but in reality, I’m all introverted. Haidilao Hotpot restaurants, known for their fancy birthday celebrations, sometimes make customers feel awkward. Their typical birthday song goes, “Say goodbye to all worries, and embrace all joys.” It’s a show meant for the extra-social. So, if an extrovert is invited to such a celebration, they might humorously exclaim, “I can’t take it! I’ve become introverted in the face of even more extroverted individuals.”
32.What is the original function of the MBTI personality test
A.To form active online communities.
B.To evaluate the types of character and preferences.
C.To make a definition and classification of people.
D.To scientifically classify netizen behaviors.
33.Which of the following is most likely to be a “social gangster”
A. A timid person. B. A shy person.
C. A humble person. D. A brave person.
34.Understanding MBTI type can help to ______.
A.attract public interest humorously
B.know yourself better and correct odd behavior
C.comfort the people with personality shortages
D.recognize and accept personal characters
35.Why does the author mention birthday celebrations in Haidilao Hotpot restaurants
A.To explain why an extrovert is often invited to their celebration.
B.To indicate the birthday songs could make customers embarrassed.
C.To show people’s personalities can change on different occasions.
D.To stress the popularity of birthday parties in Haidilao Hotpot restaurants.

The Real Champion
I like running and for me, success was winning every race I participated in.My classmates called me Incredible Dash. One day, there was a sporting event planned in my school.Well-prepared for the running competition, I took part in almost every race there was. A large number of people gathered to watch. They were eager to see the running race because it was the most exciting event. When the race for 400m started, all the boys ran fast. Unsurprisingly, I finished first in the race and received a big round of applause. While it was tiring, I felt proud and was on top of my world.
In the race for 200m, I ran full speed and finished the race first once again. The crowd gave thundering claps to me. I jumped all over the ground and didn’t even bother to give handshakes to my fellow racers.
Then came the race for 100m. Discouraged by the previous races, most boys quit the race except one, a boy named Matt who was invited as an honorary runner. Matt was born with low vision but he was a determined participant of many sports. The judge came to Matt and explained the situation, asking whether he would like to quit too. I, wild with joy, thought I would win the champion without effort. However, to everyone’s surprise, Matt decided to complete the event. I sniffed(嗤之以鼻), “It is a waste of time. I bet he even doesn’t figure out where the finish line is.”
The race of two started. On hearing the starting gun, both Matt and I ran to the finish line, Soon I sped up and left Matt behind. Just 30 meters before arriving at the finish line, I was expecting to receive the applause for the third time when I suffered a leg spasm(抽筋).

第四部分 书面表达(满分25分)
I fell hard to the ground. At this moment I felt sad and ashamed that I couldn't finish the race. I lay on the ground, unwilling to face the fact and the crowds. I imagined the sneering faces and don't know how to react. Suddenly a hand reached out to me. I raised my head and found it's Matt. "Let's run together." he said. There was just sincerity on his face, no mock. I believed I should trust him, and gave him my hand.
Arm in arm, we walked towards the finish line. The crowds fell into silence, and then broke into loud applause. What did they applaud for I think I know. Bowing to Matt, I thanked Matt for his help and admitted he was the champion. "No, I participate in the race not for the champion, just for the participation. You are very excellent." he said. A sense of respect overwhelmed me. Though I didn’t win, I gained something far more valuable—a newfound appreciation of the true meaning of being a champion.

Text 1
W: Have you finished decorating your house yet
M: No, I’ve only just finished the bathroom. It’s taken such a long time. I’ve still got the kitchen and the living room to do.
Text 2
M: Okay, Madam. May I see your driver’s licence, please
W: What Did I do anything wrong I am wearing a seat belt. Oh, is it because one of my lights is out
M: Madam, did you realize you were going 60 miles per hour in a 30 miles per hour zone
Text 3
W: The movie doesn’t start until later. I was thinking we could get some food first.
M: I’m not that hungry. I still need to get my mum a Christmas present. Maybe we could check out a few stores
W: Sure. Let me just grab a snack before we go.
Text 4
M: Excuse me, do you have the book called Leading from the Library
W: Yes. We have only one left in store. You can get a 10% discount for it.
M: Great. I’ll take it.
Text 5
W: Henry, do you know Hafthor Julius Bjornsson
M: Certainly. He played the character called The Mountain in my favourite TV series Game of Thrones. He’s very strong and big, so he’s very impressive.
Text 6
M: Has it been a long tiring day, honey
W: Yes. I can hardly keep my eyes open now. I started working at my computer at nine o’clock this morning and I don’t think I looked away until five.
M: Really No breaks at all
W: Not one.
M: Well, you’re home now. Just relax and have an early night.
W: I wish I could. But now I have to cook dinner. The kids need to be fed.
M: Oh, don’t worry about that. I’ll take care of it.
W: Thank you. You are so sweet.
Text 7
M: Are you excited about the charity tennis match this weekend
W: Yes, it should be a lot of fun, and most importantly we should be able to get a lot of money for the local children’s hospital.
M: How do you plan on getting to the tennis courts in Kings Park
W: Of course, I won’t be walking there. Maybe taking the subway is the best choice. Traffic can be pretty bad on the weekends, and it might be hard to find a parking space. Right, Desmond
M: Well, there are usually plenty of spots on Rickard Avenue, and that’s just a 5-minute walk from the courts. So, I’ll probably drive then.
W: So, do you want to meet for breakfast before the event begins
M: Sure. I need to be at the park by 9:30 a.m., so let’s meet one hour before that.
W: OK.
Text 8
M: What are you doing, Lisa
W: Watching a German film. I’m going to spend all next year in Germany, and I think I should know more about its culture.
M: You mean you have been accepted into the programme
W: I sure have.
M: That’s wonderful. You must be excited.
W: Excited but nervous. You know I have to work on some basic conversation skills.
M: How much German can you understand
W: Only a little now. But I’m going to take a special language class next month.
M: I wish I were as clever as you are at foreign languages. I would love to study abroad.
W: Then why don’t you The school has a lot of programmes that don’t require the knowledge of a foreign language. You can have a try.
M: I thought all programmes required one to know a foreign language. Thank you for letting me know this.
Text 9
M: Hi, professor. I was hoping I could have a moment of your time if you’re not too busy. I’m having some problems getting started on my paper and hoping you could give me some advice.
W: Sure. Can you remind me what your topic is
M: The general topic I chose is beauty, but that’s as far as I’ve got. I don’t really know where to go from there.
W: Yeah, that’s much too large a topic. You really need to narrow it down in order to make it more accessible. Otherwise, you’ll be writing a book.
M: Exactly. That’s what I wanted to ask you about. I was hoping it would be possible for me to change topics. I’m really more interested in nature than beauty.
W: I’m afraid you have to stick to the assigned topic. Still, since you’re interested in nature, then that certainly can be worked into your paper. We’ve talked about Hume before in class, right
M: Oh yeah, he’s the philosopher who wrote about where our ideas of beauty come from.
W: Exactly. I suggest you search for some information about him in the library and start from there.
M: Great. Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions, professor.
W: If there’s anything else you need, please come to see me in my office at any time.

Nicholas Sparks is an American author and storyteller whose books have consistently been turned into major Hollywood films. Although not all of his books were sold to Hollywood, all have been The New York Times best-sellers. He has sold over 97 million copies worldwide, with over 65 million of them within the United States alone. He lives with his family in North Carolina. He is also considered to be very generous with his money. In 2011, he created the Nicholas Sparks Foundation to make more opportunities available to children from poor families. His foundation, which he started with his wife, creates scholarships for children from low-income families in rural communities. Sparks has had a very successful career, and he owes that to education. “The education I received prepared me for the world I would be facing in the future,” he said. Even though he is worth an estimated 75 million dollars or so, Sparks seems to live the values he presents in his books.
