The Best Destinations To Make Your Group Trip A Reality
Planning a group trip can be tough, but some places are worth the effort. Whether you are traveling with friends or with family, here are places that are perfect for your next group adventure.
Great Barrington, The Berkshires, USA
The Berkshires in Massachusetts is a popular escape for many East Coast city residents due to its charming towns. For literature fans, the Berkshires were once home to many writers, including Edith Wharton. Take a day trip to visit her home, The Mount, for history, culture and stunning architecture.
Miami, Florida, USA
Fun and fancy, Miami is a recognized group trip destination. Everything about Miami screams, “Grab your friends and have some fun.” Head to South Beach if you look for the classic Miami experience, but you don’t necessarily have to focus on beaches and nightlife. Leave the golden sand behind for a day, explore Little Havana, eat traditional Cuban food at Versailles, and spend an afternoon in the Art District of the neighborhood, which features a handful of galleries.
Prague, Czech Republic
Does your group prefer a little more history alongside your adventure Prague is the answer. Relatively affordable compared to many of its European neighbors, Prague is an excellent choice for larger groups looking to keep expenses on the lower end and families with tight budget. Watch the Astronomical Clock hit the hour and enjoy its short but beautiful show before wandering the narrow streets. Cross the iconic Charles Bridge and see the city stretch out before you. There is simply so much to uncover in this complex city.

“Gluten free (无麸质), lactose free, vegan...” These ideas on diet might sound unfamiliar to many in China. That’s why Wang Jiaqi, a 16-year-old girl from Beijing, opened a special ice cream store called EIS Engelchen in Beijing’s Sanlitun, to spread a healthier way to enjoy ice cream.
“My friends and I love ice cream, but we’ve never encountered an ice cream that really ‘wows’ us,” Wang said. Then one day she heard her mom say that she had the best ice cream of her life at a café in a little town in Germany. “I immediately wanted to go there and try it for myself,” she added.
Lucky for her, during her summer holiday, Wang was able to go to the town and work as a waitress in the café selling ice cream. “I not only got to taste it myself, but also learned about the healthy idea. In China, where many people are lactose intolerant (乳糖不耐受) or vegan, finding suitable ice cream is challenging due to the common use of milk and eggs.” So, Wang decided to bring this ice cream back to China to be enjoyed by even more people.
At the time, the brand was only sold to cafés and hotels in Germany. But after discussions with the brand’s management, Wang not only gained the right to sell the ice cream but also opened the first physical EIS Engelchen store–all the way away in China.
Wang believes that starting a business begins with something small and is a step-by-step process. “When I was in primary school, I sold products like cookies made by myself among students,” Wang said. “I think business is about noticing problems around you and working out ways to solve them.”
24. Where did Wang Jiaqi hear of the German ice cream for the first time
A. From her mother. B. In the café. C. From her friend. D. From the internet.
25. Why did Wang Jiaqi open the ice cream store in Beijing
A. She wanted to provide a place for friends to hang out.
B. She was trying to promote traditional Chinese ice cream flavors.
C. She wanted to solve the problem of lactose intolerance in China.

A. Business-minded. B. Kind-hearted. C. Hard-working. D. Strong-willed.
27. What’s the main idea of the text
A. A teenager called on people to eat healthy food.
B. A Chinese girl started her own ice cream business.
C. Bringing German food to China faced great challenges.
D. Traditional ice cream was increasingly popular among students.
C
The U.S. Open is in full swing—Carlos Alcaraz, Naomi Osaka, and Novak Djokovic are among the tennis stars on the stadiums. Tennis has steadily grown in popularity in the last few years. Playing tennis may help you live longer compared to other sports.
The Copenhagen City Heart Study, which followed over 8,500 people for 25 years, found tennis players have a better chance of living longer than those who engaged in badminton, soccer, cycling, swimming and jogging. The study projects that people who love playing tennis will live an average of 9.7 years longer than they would have otherwise. Similarly, in a 2020 study published in the International Journal of Exercise Science, tennis players who play at least twice a week were less likely to get fat, felt more energetic and had better overall health.
The benefits are largely due to its influence on heart health. Playing tennis three hours a week can cut down your risk of heart disease by over 50%, according to the United States Tennis Association (USTA). Additionally, a British study found racket sports, as compared to football, cycling, and running, were uniquely associated with a lower risk for death rate.
While playing tennis, you have to hold your racket(球拍) firmly, always pay attention to the opponent’s ball and then swing your racket with all your strength, which greatly keeps your brain active and improves your balance. Especially when you age, such exercise will stop muscle loss and support bone health, lowering the risk of injuries and falls.
Beyond physical fitness, tennis offers significant social pared to going to the gym by yourself, running outside, or swimming (which are still all good forms of exercise!), tennis requires you to communicate with others. For older adults who are easier to suffer loneliness, tennis can bring different groups of people together through exercising in community. Maintaining strong social networks also helps prevent mental health conditions like anxiety and depression, helping people feel happier into older age.
If this is music to your ears, you’re in luck, because tennis is popular among all ages and skill levels. So, it may just be the time to dust off your racket.
28. Why are the famous tennis players mentioned in paragraph 1
A. To introduce the topic. B. To set a good example for us.
C. To show the talent of tennis players. D. To stress the importance of playing tennis.
29. What did Copenhagen City Heart Study find
A. Tennis players who play at least twice a week are less likely to get fat.
B. People who play tennis may live longer than those who take part in other sports.
C. More people like to engage in badminton, soccer, cycling, swimming and jogging.
D. People who love playing tennis will live an average of 9.7 years shorter than others.
30. Which of the following is NOT a benefit of playing tennis?
A. Sharpen your brain. B. Make more friends.
C. Reduce the risk of heart disease. D. Increase muscle loss.
31. What does the underline part “music to your ears” mean in the last paragraph
A. A song that you like. B. A sound that is similar to music.
C. A noise that you find annoying. D. Something you are pleased to hear about.
D
Batteries(电池) are getting smaller, lighter and more powerful all the time. This is good news for producers and buyers of products from electric cars, mobile phones to fitness trackers. But being unable to bend as skin or tissue does make batteries uncomfortable to wear. A number of ways are therefore being taken to produce flexible batteries, including the use of fibers and nanoparticles. Among the most promising, though, are water-based batteries inspired by the way an electric eel(鳗鱼) stores its electricity.
A group at the University of Cambridge has used the eel’s technique to come up with “jelly batteries”. These are made from hydrogels(水凝胶) that is made up of a layered structure of organic polymers that contain over 60% water. This makes them both soft and flexible. “Although most batteries experience a loss of conductivity(导电性) if it is bent or stretched, a jelly battery can be stretched up to one-and-a-half times its length with no conductivity loss,” says Stephen O’Neill, a member of the research team. This means it can be worn more comfortably against the skin and prove stronger when implanted into internal organs, like the lung, heart or brain.
“Another feature of the jelly battery is that the strong molecular bonds allow the material to repair itself very quickly if it is broken,” says Jade McCune, another member of the Cambridge team. This provides a self-repairing ability, which could be useful for applications in extreme operating environments, such as powering sensors put into protective clothing.
Another group has also found encouraging results with a self-repairing battery. This team, based at Guilin University of Technology and a number of other research centers in China, recently reported in Nano Research Energy that their battery could sustain a high level of bending and twisting, and even if broken ten times was still capable of self-repairing.
Both groups think this kind of battery could enter the market without great difficulty, and that the cost of making them would be reasonable when compared with present battery technologies. The next step for the Cambridge team is to test whether their jelly batteries will reject others when implanted in tissue. As they are mainly water-based, the team does not expect any rejection problems.
32. Why are jelly batteries invented?
A. Producers feel like making money.
B. Traditional batteries are unable to bend.
C. Buyers want lighter and smaller batteries.
D. They are needed for mobile phones and fitness trackers.
33. What makes the batteries both soft and flexible?
A. Hydrogels. B. Fibers and nanoparticles.
C. Conductivity. D. Strong molecular bonds.
34. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. Jelly batteries can’t repair itself.
B. Jelly batteries are inspired by a kind of plant.
C. Jelly batteries experience a loss of conductivity if they are bent or stretched.
D. Another group who has made a self-repairing jelly battery comes from China.
35. What attitude does the writer have to the future of jelly batteries?
A. Negative. B. Positive. C. Indifferent. D. Worried.

When Micah was a child, I used to do many things with her. Later, I got promoted and was always on constant business holidays. 3 years’ devotion to work resulted in my absence from her life and now she was a teenage girl. Recently, I eventually managed to have enough time to accompany her.
For the last few weeks, Micah had watched mockingbirds make a nest in a tree and lay eggs there. Sometimes, I came to stay with her without being invited. But whenever I tried to break the ice, “I’m good” was about all she said to me. Or “Leave me alone.”
“Why doesn’t she want to do things with me ” I thought as I set the table for dinner one evening, hoping for an emotion bridge to reappear between us. Did she feel hurt with my long absence Lost in thought, I was seeking to mend the relationship.
“Mom!” Micah yelled suddenly. “Come quick!”
Surprised, I rushed out, only to find a little baby bird on the ground, weak and helpless. My eyes went to the branches above.
“The wind must have blown him out of the nest,” I said.
“No, it was Mr. Whiskers—our cat. You let him go outside!” Micah said, a bit annoyed.
Looking at the nest without the parents, “I’m sorry,” I said and put the bird in my palm cautiously and gently. She didn’t reply, but did not refuse my offer to help, either. Deciding to take care of the little baby till it became independent, I placed it in its nest.
“What should we do next ” I asked. No answer again. Instead, Micah went inside and brought her iPad. “Bird videos ” I asked. “Yes, I’m finding out what to feed it,” she said seriously.

Dear John,
Knowing that you’re in need of suggestions on the upcoming English reading class, I can’t wait to share my ideas with you.
From my point of view, a 45-minute class for reading every week is preferred. Only in this way can we have enough time to understand the reading material better and take notes. In terms of content, I recommend a mix of classic literature and interesting novels, which will enrich our literary knowledge and expose us to diverse writing styles. Finally, I expect that this class will not only enhance our interest in reading but also provide us with a chance to explore different cultures.
I’d appreciate it if you take my suggestions into consideration.
Yours,
Li Hua
读后续写
Soon, Micah smiled broadly, “I’ve got it.” “What do we need ” I asked again. She said the baby bird needed some special bird food. Hearing this, I immediately phoned to place an order. While waiting for delivery, Micah added that we needed to name the bird to build a bond. “How about Chance I think it has a good chance of making it with your help,” I proposed. She didn’t say a word but nodded with a bright smile.
Before long, the bird food arrived and we fed the bird “Chance” at once. To our relief, the special food was to its taste. The following weeks, we went to feed and check on Chance every day. One day, Micah shared with me happily her finding that Chance became independent. Looking at her shining face, I was almost moved to tears. I never imagined that the bird Chance became the real chance to rebuild the emotion bridge between us. From then, I decided to accompany her more, just as what we had done to pany is the best love.

M: Heather learned how to surf from her father. It was just like riding a motorcycle in California. At first, she was scared. But by the end of her first day, she could already stand up on her board, and she told all her friends that night that she would be a great surfer. Half a year later, she bought her own board from a website. Almost every weekend morning, she drove from her house in Los Angeles to San Diego and hit the beach. Heather went surfing every minute she was free. But one afternoon, she noticed a big shark coming near her. It was getting closer and closer to her. It was coming straight at her. She tried to swim out of its way, but it came at her again. Heather knew she had only one advantage: her surfboard. She threw it as hard as she could in the direction of the shark. Amazingly, it hit the shark in the nose, and it left her alone! Heather smiled. Surfing had saved her life!
