Growing up in Nigeria, Sunday Agbonika raised a pet dog, which was unusual in the 2000s, let alone having a trained dog in the countryside. But he did everything with his dog and trained it regularly, which inspired him to learn more about how animals could help people.
One day, he came across a video by Nathan Selove, who gave talks about living with autism (自闭症). In the video, Selove explained how he struggled with school and was often bullied (欺负). But after getting a service dog, his grades and relationships improved.
The idea that his background with animals could help support children like Selove struck Agbonika. So he planned to visit the US to take a dog-learning course, but he was denied a visa. He turned to another way to learn. He read as many books as he could and watched a lot of videos. By the time he learned enough knowledge about how animals could help a person’s well-being, he was qualified to work as a dog trainer. When he worked in a pet store, he also took in dogs from clients and trained them in person.
The first challenge he met was reaching children who could benefit from animal-assisted therapy. He tried connecting with centers that worked with these children, but only two loved the idea. They gave him the chance to run a trial to see if it would work. He ended up getting remarkable results, which let him get the message out there. Many centers started showing interest.
Later Agbonika ran the Dogalov HumAn Support Initiative. In 2019 Agbonika received the Fellowship for Young African Leaders, a program which selects 700 Africans to go to various universities in the US to learn leadership and team-building skills each year. The fellowship helped him build a relationship with the international community. And more and more people are now getting to see the work he’s doing and are more willing to hear what he has to say.

A. It helped him become a leader. B. It raised funds for his program.

During Yang Zhongkai’s early years, a 500-year-old majestic ginkgo (银杏) tree that did not sprout leaves for two to three years at a stretch used to be a daily sight for him on his way to and from high school. Since villagers widely regarded the tree as having the power to make their wishes come true, they used to kneel down in front of the “lucky” tree and burn offerings under it, which led to prolonged heat exposure at its roots, stunting its growth.
“Millions of such old trees are in urgent need of protection given their importance as vital biological resources and symbols of ecological civilization,” said Yang, who started the team — Zhiyue — dedicated to protecting ancient trees. “But the recording and management of ancient and famous trees nationwide commonly rely on Excel spreadsheets (电子表格), which present issues such as information silos, lack of real-time updates and incomplete content,” he said.
However, things have changed of late. Yang and his team now use the artificial intelligence technology developed by Tencent Cloud to identify and register trees accurately based on individual traits and GPS tracking. “With the acceleration of a new generation of technological revolution and industrial transformation, new technologies bring more excitement to the protection of ancient trees,” Yang said. “We can now collect data on the trees’growth, health and environment in real time, which helps us make informed decisions on how to better protect them.”
“In addition to applying cutting-edge technologies such as AI and large models to assist in the development of traditional industries, the company also makes great efforts to promote the development of charitable causes through technological and platform advantages,” Wu Yunsheng said, vice-president of Tencent Cloud, adding that “the power of technology can change the world”.
28. What does the underlined word “stunting” in paragraph 1 probably mean
A. Preventing. B. Boosting. C. Keeping. D. Recording.

A. It will replace Excel spreadsheets in the future.
B. It is an effective tool to protect ancient trees.
C. It will be widely used in modern industries.
D. It has remarkable advantages over other AI.
30. What is Wu Yunsheng’s attitude towards the application of technology
A. Skeptical. B. Cautious. C. Supportive. D. Indifferent.
31. What’s the purpose of the passage
A. To emphasize the importance of technology. B. To show technology’s aid to ancient trees.

As athletes get stronger and faster, the pace of play continues to increase. The burden of making sure games are played according to the rules and that the officiating (裁判) is accurate is now being taken out of human hands and falling more and more into the lap of technology. It’s called the video replay.
The National Football League is expanding its replay system this upcoming season to include pass interference (传球干扰). Major League Baseball now relies on it for safe-or-out and home run calls. If you’ve been watching the FIFA World Cup, you may have noticed that the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) played a key role in almost every game. And in the Kentucky Derby, a horse was disqualified for knocking another horse. No one knew why until a video replay confirmed the call and controversy was avoided.
However, many purists— those who want people to follow rules carefully and do things in the traditional way— especially in soccer, argue it’s not the way the game was invented, and that the video replay is tainting the sport. But don’t you want to see the proper application of the rules throughout the games I know I do. Yes, it can slow the game down, but I feel it is worth it. If technological advancements allow fans watching from home to spot mistakes instantly, those same views need to be available to the officiating crews. Another example occurred in the most recent National Football Conference (NFC) Championship Game between the Los Angeles Rams and the New Orleans Saints. When obvious pass interference was committed by the Los Angeles Rams player Nickell Robey-Coleman, with just 109 seconds to play, no flag was raised on the field. It weakened the New Orleans Saints spirits. The Los Angeles Rams won a 26-23 overtime victory. The no-call deeply angered the public. The video replay showed the referee s had just missed one of the most apparent pass interference calls.
There are no easy answers regarding replay technology and whether it is a curse (魔咒). But for me, keeping the officiating honest and on task is the right step in limiting controversy.
32. What trend in sports can be observed in paragraph 2
A. The video replay has been widely used. B. League games have become competitive.
C. Rules of professional games are becoming stricter. D. People are showing more interest in sports than before.

Sophia had always been the shyest girl in her class. She preferred to stay in the background, rarely speaking up and avoiding attention at all costs. Her teachers often encouraged her to participate more, but Sophia felt more comfortable being unnoticed. She admired those who could confidently share their thoughts, yet never believed she could be one of them.
One day, the class was assigned a group project in science, and each group needed to create a presentation on a major technological advancement from China. Sophia’s group couldn’t agree ona topic. Some wanted to focus on China’s space exploration, while others argued for a project on high-speed rail technology. With the heated discussion going on, Sophia came up with a good idea-she wanted to suggest “The Development of 5G Technology in China and Its Global Impact,”. but fear held her back. What if they thought her idea was uninteresting or too technical She opened her mouth to speak, but her nerves got the better of her, and she stayed silent.
As the deadline approached, the group still hadn’t made much progress. Sophia grew frustrated, but the fear of rejection kept her quiet. The night before their final meeting, she thought about how stepping out of her comfort zone might help her grow, as her teachers often said. Maybe this was her chance to take that step. Finally, the final meeting came and her group got together, still arguing without any agreement.
Sophia took a deep breath and decided it was time to take a risk.
