You probably consider calorie (卡路里) burning with training. You can get great calorie burning effects with the following exercises.
Running
Running is one of the best calorie burners out there. An average person can burn anywhere from 500 to 1,000 calories in one hour of running. Speed and pace are all factors that can affect calorie burning. But running uses every muscle group in the body, allowing you to burn more calories.
High Intensity Interval (高强度间歇运动) Training (HIIT)
If you want intensity, HIIT is right for you. This physical exercise involves working hard in intervals, then resting. Because your heart rate will stay at a high level, you’ll burn more calories in less time. On average, a person will burn 400 to 600 calories in 30 minutes.
Jumping rope
This childhood activity can actually do wonders for your health. Jumping rope is great for strengthening the lower and upper body while training your balance and coordination (协调能力), because your mind has to work while you jump. Jumping rope can burn 600 to 1,000 calories in an hour.
Swimming
Swimming is a low-intensity form of exercise that also uses muscle groups of your body. In just 30 minutes of swimming, an average person can burn 200 to 300 calories. Swimming also helps to shape body, control blood pressure, and increase strength—all great reasons for you to jump into the water.
1. Which kind of exercise burns the most calories in an hour
A. Running. B. Swimming.
C. Jumping rope. D. High Intensity Interval Training.
2. Who may also be interested in the third exercise
A. Those who want to train their mind. B. Those who want to have good balance.
C. Those who want to control blood pressure. D. Those who want to do low-intensity activities.
3. What is the purpose of the text
A. To encourage people to compete in sports. B. To teach people how to do exercise.
C. To provide ways to burn calories. D. To promote a healthy lifestyle.

Like any other child growing up, Nicole LaMont was an outgoing, adventurous and free-spirited child with the dream of becoming a scientist. “My childhood was filled with imagination of adventure and curiosity, ”Nicole said. She experienced a normal childhood, but when she was 12 years old, a terrible illness led her to lose her hearing in both ears.
“My world was turned upside down,” said Nicole. “I went from being a talkative, joyous child to being quiet and depressed. ”However, she came to realize she had to fight when it was determined that her hearing would not return. With her family’s help, Nicole began to learn American Sign Language(ASL).
A year later, she received an operation where she was implanted (植入) a hearing device, which brought back some light to her life and she also learned how to adapt to the new life. It wasn’t until she attended Gallaudet, a school for the deaf, that she fully devoted herself to ASL and the deaf community. “Becoming fluent in ASL and having total communication allowed me to feel a sense of acceptance again,” said Nicole. “I found my confidence and ‘visual (视觉的) voice’ in the performing arts.”
It was then that she made her first request, demanding subtitles (字幕) for movie theatres in Alabama. After much struggle, Nicole’s efforts proved successful, and today nearly all movie theatres in Montgomery and Birmingham offer subtitles for the deaf. After graduating from Gallaudet University, Nicole continued to use her new found “visual voice” through taking part in several activities, becoming Miss Black Deaf D.C. “By doing this, I want to show that deaf people can achieve much. It’s very important to educate and support hearing families that struggle with making the best decisions for their deaf children’s education.” said Nicole.
4. Which of the following best describes Nicole’s childhood
A. Fruitful. B. Colorful C. Lonely D. Poor.
5 What did Nicole get after she mastered ASL
A. A sense of belonging. B. A hearing device.
C. A chance of going to college. D. A totally new treatment.
6. What can we know from the last paragraph
A. Nicole called on all US cinemas to offer subtitles.
B. Nicole was going to donate her invention-visual voice.
C. Nicole was determined to train more deaf kids to go to school.
D. Nicole hoped to promote deaf education in hearing families.
7. What’s the best title for the text
A. More Self-Control, More Success
B. Keep Going, and You Can Make It
C. Illness Makes One More Confident
D. He Who Laughs Last Laughs Longest

Busy streets, loud noises, and grey buildings can make city life exhausting and boring. Finding a solution to these issues might be possible by turning to nature, which can help us feel calm and refreshed.
Adding plants or colorful designs may make cities more enjoyable to live in. However, growing plants or covering buildings in paint to test these approaches is costly and inconvenient. Moreover, studying these phenomena outdoors can be tricky, as many factors can affect the final results. “Measuring pleasure and motivation in natural settings is extremely hard,” explained Prof. Yvonne Delevoye. “Human reactions are sensitive to environmental changes, such as weather or traffic. Consequently, we used virtual reality to measure reactions to these factors in a virtual urban space.”
The group used virtual reality to make a city setting that felt real. They made two versions: one with no plants, and another with some green plants. They also introduced colorful patterns onto a path. Then they invited students to participate in the study. Wearing a VR headset and walking on the spot, the students spent time exploring the virtual environment. To find out where the volunteers were looking and for how long, each headset included an eye tracker.
The researchers found that the students walked more slowly when there was green plants present in the experiment, and their heart rate increased. They would spend less time looking at the ground and more time observing their surroundings. These results indicate a pleasurable experience. Bright color patterns alone did not have quite the same uplifting effect as the green plants, but they inspired interest and passion of the students and attracted their stare while increasing their heart rate.
Virtual reality might be a useful resource for urban planners, allowing them to experiment with different elements in a virtual environment. In the future, the researchers aim to improve the VR experience to get even better and more precise outcomes.
8. What was the primary reason for using virtual reality in the study
A. To measure reactions without environmental influence.
B. To prove the superiority of technology over nature.
C. To demonstrate the inconvenience of urban life.
D. To create an entertaining game for students.
9. How did the participants interact with the virtual environment in the study
A. By walking around a real city.
B. By wearing a headset and walking on site.
C. By making use of an eye tracker.
D. By observing through a screen without moving.
10. What does the underlined word “uplifting” most probably mean
A. Interesting. B. Limiting. C. Powerful. D. Cheerful.
11. What potential benefit of virtual reality is mentioned for urban planning
A. Helping cities avoid using real plants in urban space.
B. Predicting future urban challenges with precise results.
C. Reducing the costs of urban development significantly.
D. Providing a platform for testing various urban elements.
D
According to reports, three-quarters of all crops around the world depend on pollinating (授粉的) insects like bees and butterflies. By pollinating, pollinators enable the production of seeds. Without them, crop farming can become extremely difficult or costly threatening food supplies and prices globally.
Research has shown a rapid and consistent decline in pollinator populations. Average butterfly populations have almost halved since 1991 and bee populations in particular face a sharp decline. Given the world’s growing dependence on these insects, we can only expect the problem to worsen if no action is taken.
Much has been written about how intensive farming practices the use of chemical pesticides and pollution are threatening the survival of these helpful insects. To add to the already critical situation, global warming is contributing significantly to the rapid disappearance of pollinators.
Climate change is a major threat to pollinators, with rising temperatures and increasing frequency and intensity of extreme weather events affecting the food sources and habitats, on which pollinators depend for their survival.
Climate change also changes the timing and availability of lowering plants, leading to mismatches between pollinators and their food sources. A study has found that climate change has shifted plants’ blooming to earlier times and caused certain plants to move to higher areas, resulting in a decline in pollination.
Another study has found that climate change could lead to a decline in the quality of nectar, which is the main food source for many pollinators. As temperatures rise, the sugar content of nectar decreases, making it less nutritious for pollinators. This leads to a decline in the health and reproductive success of pollinators, as well as a decline in the pollination of plants.
Needless to say, cutting global emissions is key. It’s essential that we continue to advocate for emission reductions. From country-level to individual businesses, more concrete roadmaps to net zero are a must.
We must at least minimize, if not prevent, the usage of pesticides, since these chemicals are harmful to pollinators and can have a far-reaching effect on pollination as a whole.
12. What does paragraph 1 try to show
A. The influence of crop crises. B. The importance of pollinators.
C. The serious challenges faced by humans. D. The increasing difficulty of crop production.
13. How does the author sound in paragraph 2
A. Curious. B. Suspicious. C. Humorous. D. Anxious.
14. What do paragraphs 3-4 mainly talk about
A. How climate change has affected pollinators.
B. Causes of the decline in pollinator populations.
C. The importance of pollinators to the ecosystem.
D. Why chemical pesticides are harmful to pollinators.
15. What is a suggestion for helping pollinators
A. Starting keeping bees. B. Reducing pesticide use.
C. Increasing the amount of nectar. D. Building more habitats for pollinators.

Grady and his family go camping every summer. As it was becoming hotter, here came the camping time.
Having planned the camp long, the family finally decided the destination --- the Great National Forest. With food, necessity and cookers loaded onto the car, the family squeezed into the car. The car door closed, heat was shut outside.
In the car, Jared, Grady's younger brother was playing with a toy dinosaur, making great noise. Grady's mother talked excitedly with his father. On settling in the car, Grady put on the earphone and turned on the music. He neither wanted to join his brother nor joined any talk. After what seemed to be hours, the car stopped where they headed. Grady threw down his backpack and slammed the car door.
“This will be a lengthy week,“ he said unhappily to no one in particular. He looked around the campground. Hundreds of tall and green fir trees, some as tall as church towers, covered the mountainside like a green carpet. The sun would be setting soon. Grady thought maybe the heat wouldn't be unbearable. But actually now in the mountain, the hot stickiness of July was closely attached to him.
Grady hated camping, but it was something his family stuck to every summer. His father liked cooking over an open air, telling stories about how to survive things like bear attacks and bites of bees. His mother and Jared liked to hike and take pictures of animals. Jared had a collection of bug pictures that he had pinned to the walls in his half of their room. Grady thought they were just scary and proof that Jared was a strange kid.
They set up camp - two tents, one for his parents and one for himself and Jared. While everyone else started preparing dinner, Grady, looking for some place to cool down, set off for the nearby stream, which was deep enough to swim in.

【8题】
推理判断题。根据第二段中“Human reactions are sensitive to environmental changes, such as weather or traffic. Consequently, we used virtual reality to measure reactions to these factors in a virtual urban space. (人类的反应对环境变化很敏感,比如天气或交通。因此,我们使用虚拟现实来测量在虚拟城市空间中对这些因素的反应。)”可知,在研究中使用虚拟现实的主要原因是测量不受环境影响的反应。故选A。
【9题】
细节理解题。根据第三段中“Wearing a VR headset and walking on the spot, the students spent time exploring the virtual environment. (学生们戴上VR头显,在现场行走,花时间探索虚拟环境。)”可知,参与者是通过戴头盔和在现场走动来与虚拟环境进行互动的,故选B。
【10题】
词句猜测题。根据第四段中划线词前文“The researchers found that the students walked more slowly when there was green plants present in the experiment, and their heart rate increased. They would spend less time looking at the ground and more time observing their surroundings. These results indicate a pleasurable experience. (研究人员发现,当实验中有绿色植物出现时,学生们走得更慢,他们的心率也增加了。他们会花更少的时间观察地面,而花更多的时间观察周围的环境。这些结果表明这是一次愉快的经历。)”可知,研究结果表明,环境当中的绿色植被让人们感到愉快。划线词所在句“Bright color patterns alone did not have quite the same uplifting effect as the green plants, but they inspired interest and passion of the students and attracted their stare while increasing their heart rate. (明亮的色彩图案本身并没有绿色植被那么uplifting的效果,但它们激发了学生们的兴趣和激情,吸引了他们的目光,同时增加了他们的心率。)”说明明亮的色彩图案本身并没有绿色植被那样的效果,由此可推知,划线词uplifting的含义为“使人愉快的”,与B项“Cheerful(令人愉快的)”含义相近,故选D。
【11题】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“Virtual reality might be a useful resource for urban planners, allowing them to experiment with different elements in a virtual environment. (虚拟现实可能是城市规划者的有用资源,允许他们在虚拟环境中试验不同的元素。)”可知,虚拟现实为城市规划提供了一个测试各种城市元素的平台,故选D。

【答案】As Grady got close to the stream, an adorable bear cub caught his eye. Though Grady didn’t like animals, he couldn’t resist such a lovely bear cub measuring no more than two feet tall with a cute face. It was playing pretty joyfully at the edge of the stream. So absorbed was the bear cub in playing that it wasn’t aware that someone was approaching. Driven by curiosity, Grady walked on tiptoe, moving closer to have a look at it. Suddenly he heard a sound behind him.
Turning around, he saw an angry bear moving swiftly towards him. Shocked and dumb, Grady was rooted onto the ground for seconds, and then dashed to their camp desperately, shouting for help in the meantime. Fortunately, Grady’s father heard the shout in time to come to his assistance. To their surprise, realizing the danger was away, the furry giant stopped chasing and returned to the stream, picking up her baby, and holding it in arms tightly. In the distance, attracted by the noise, Jared and his mother were trying to take a photo of the bear cub and its mother.
