Unit 1 Behind the scenes
Teaching objectives:
By the end of this class, students will be able to:
to know some film types about film-making
to understand the structure of Reading and some technology in film-making
to appreciate the hard work behind the scenes.
Teaching difficult and important points:
Analyse and summarize the structure of a text
Train students’ reading ability to understand the details of the text.
Teaching procedures:
Step 1: Pre-reading
1.The teacher shows students ten film posters and asks students to figure out which type they belong to.
2.Then the teacher shows students a short video about a war film and asks them the following questions:
Have you seen it before
What impressed you most when you watch the short video
Which element do you think is the most important in making a successful film like “The Battle at Lake Changjin” ( people, tools, setting)
Many different elements go into making a film. The lecture was given by a film critic at the school Film Festival.
Step 2: While-reading
Read the article as soon as possible quickly and find the topic sentence of each paragraph.
According to the main idea of each paragraph, the teacher asks students to draw the structure of the passage.

Para 1: Introduction
1.The teacher asks students to read the para1 quickly and answer the following questions:

Main Body (Para2-4): There are some aspects of film-making behind the scenes.

Para 2: sound effects
The teacher asks students to read the Para 2 and answer the following questions:
1. When will the film sound effects be added into the film After shooting a scene.
2. What are the two ways to create various sound effects
3. Are all the sounds real and natural
4. How was the dinosaur’s roar made
A dinosaur’s roar was made by computer, which mixed different sounds of animals.
Para 3: visual special effects
The teacher asks students to read the Para 3 and guess the meaning of CGI.

Para 4: props
1.The teacher asks students to read the Para 4 and answer the following question:
