An earthquake hit Tangshan, China on 28 July 1976. Before the earthquake, strange things happened in the countryside. More than 400,000 people were killed or injured in the earthquake. Nearly everything in the city was destroyed. After the earthquake, 150,000 soldiers and more than 10,000 doctors and nurses and many workers were sent to do rescue work. With support from the government and efforts of the city’s people, a new Tangshan was built upon the ruins.
