An underwater Greek village has begun to reappear after water levels dropped in the lake that covered it. Terribly hot, dry weather has led to the disappearing Lake Mornos.
The village of Kallio was flooded(淹没) by water in 1980 to create the lake, aiming to satisfy the ever-increasing water need of the nation's capital about 200 kilometers away. Lake Mornos provided water for nearly half of Greece's population. Now, dried earth together with old building materials lay around the remains of Kallio. Last winter brought little snow to Greece. This summer brought serious heat but little rain to the country. Day by day, the water in the lake goes down.
Pictures taken above in the sky manifest the fact that the lake’ s surface area dropped from around 16.8 square kilometers in August 2022 to just 12 square kilometers this year.
Water at three other water bodies dropped to 700 million cubic meters in August. This water supplies(供应) Attica, an area of around 4 million people including Athens. That was down from 1.2 billion cubic meters in 2022.

Artificial intelligence (AI) tools have raised concerns that chatbots(聊天机器人) will take the place of many kinds of workers. Writers, editors, and business service workers are among those who could be influenced. But some people are suggesting that AI might not take away jobs as many people fear. Instead, the technology might turn out to be more like the technological developments of the past, such as the steam engine, electricity and the Internet.
Some scientists reason that AI might end some jobs while creating others. They also say that the technology will probably make workers perform better, benefiting them as well as their bosses.
Nick Bunker is an expert at the Indeed Hiring Lab. He said he thinks AI“will influence many, many jobs—— maybe every job” to some degree. Bunker added that he does not believe the technology is going to lead to loss of many jobs. “We have seen other big technologies in our history, and those didn't lead to a large loss of jobs. There will be new jobs that come about,” he said.
Some people say that AI chatbots are not taking the place of human workers in a widespread way. It has yet to see many facts of job losses caused by Al. However, the fear that Al is a risk to some kinds of jobs has a basis in reality.
Suumit Shah is an Indian business owner who said last year that he used a chatbot named Lina to take the place of 90 percent of his workers who provide help for shoppers. Shah's company, Dukaan, helps people set up sites to sell goods online. Shah said the time it took to answer a shopper's question reduced(减少) from 1 minute to 44 seconds. The chatbot also cut the time needed to work out problems from more than two hours to just over three minutes.
But being influenced by AI does not necessarily mean losing jobs to it.
32. Why does the author mention some past inventions
A. To stress the scientific progress. B. To show their usefulness.
C. To raise readers’ interest in AL D. To reduce people's worries about AL.
33. What do Bunker's words show
A. Bosses benefit more from AI than workers.
B. AI will surely improve workers’ performance.
C. Technologies have influenced people's life in every way.
D. AI doesn't necessarily cause people to be out of work.
34. What does Lina do
A. It sends products to customers. B. It serves online shoppers.
C. It puts up product posters. D. It helps owners manage products.
35. Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A. Will AI Take Away Human Jobs B. Who Will Suffer Most from AI
C. AI—— The Ruler of the Future D. AI—— An Unexpected Game-Changer

Have you ever done something that changed others’ life Here's my story.
Right after I had my first son, I got a ton of formula(配方奶粉) from a friend, but I couldn’ t use it because my son had stomach problems. Rather than wasting it, I went on a website which my friend Jane suggested. People could give away or ask for things they needed for free on that website.
A young woman, living in the same small town with me at the time, messaged me and asked whether she could take the formula. She explained that her husband had just left her and her son, leaving them with nothing to live on. At the end of the message was her number. So I called. On the phone, she explained that she'd have to wait to pick the formula up only when she could find a way to get closer to town. I could hear her holding back tears when I asked if it was OK if I took it to her.
After getting her address, I went through the house trying to find anything I could give her. In the end, I got three big bags and a basket full.
When I got to her place, she invited me in. What came in sight was an almost empty place. No TV, no sofa, no food. I was really sad and ran to the car a few times to get all the things. She was shocked that I brought her food too. She hugged me and started to cry. A short moment later, she made her son a bottle of milk. It broke my heart because I could tell she and her son were both very hungry.
