The Traditional Festival in China—Xiaonian
Xiaonian is Little New Year in English. It is usually a week before the Spring Festival. From this day, we will go into the“ busy year”. Little New Year is the beginning of the Spring Festival. There are some customs(风俗) at Little New Year. Let's learn about them together.
We often stick(粘贴) window flowers. The window flowers are popular in the north, because they are beautiful and are the symbols(象征) of better(更好) life in the future. We also clean our houses and eat tangyuan at Little New Year.
Little New Year has different dates and food in different places. In the north, it is the 23rd of the twelfth lunar(农历) month. In most parts of the south, it is the 24th of the twelfth lunar month. In the north, people like to eat jiaozi. But in the south, people like to eat Spring Festival cakes, zongzi and sugarcane(甘蔗).
