Aline, a 26-year-old from a western African country, wakes up early each day at her experimental station in Quzhou, Hebei province, where she is engaged in hands-on agricultural research as part of the Science and Technology Backyard (STB) program. This initiative, launched by China Agricultural University (CAU), involves students tackling agricultural challenges in rural areas to cultivate (培养) talented agricultural professionals and support rural modernization, particularly for smallholder farmers in Africa.
Since her arrival, Aline has been busy with various farming tasks, such as collecting crop samples and analyzing plant growth metrics (指标). She values her interactions with local farmers, which help her understand the practical applications of her research and the real issues they face. Currently, Aline is studying the growth patterns of maize under different environmental conditions.
Similarly, Matthews Kafunda, a 27-year-old from Malawi, is participating in the STB program. He believes that the combination of theoretical knowledge and practical experience fosters agricultural innovation. Matthews plans to promote the STB model in Malawi to influence the expertise he has gained for the benefit of smallholder farmers.
Since 2022, students from Malawi have launched three STB programs, helping over200 local farmers. The program follows a “1+1+1” talent training model: students spend their first year studying at CAU, then engage in practical work in Quzhou, and finally return to Africa to apply what they’ve learned.
This comprehensive approach not only enhances students ’skills but also promotes the implement of agricultural technologies, contributing to the advancement of agriculture. Recently, CAU signed a partnership agreement with Malawi University to establish an Africa center, aiming to create a demonstration area in Africa for high agricultural yields and effective resource usage, thereby extending the benefits to more countries across the continent.
24. Why does CAU start the STB programme
A. To foster the growth of student experts in agriculture.
B. To offer abundant fund to students majoring in agriculture.
C. To narrow the gap between Chinese and African education.
D. To encourage farmers to change agriculture applications in China.
25. What is essential for agricultural development according to Matthews
A. Accurate plant growth data. B. Theory coupled with practice.
C. Constant access to experts’ support. D. Advanced technology and machinery.
26. What can be inferred about the STB program in Malawi

To advance soft robotics, skin-integrated electronics and biomedical devices, researchers at Penn State have created a 3D-printed, soft, and stretchable material that turns into a high-conductivity (导电性) device without the need for secondary activation (激活). This advancement addresses the limitations of previous methods, which often resulted in lower conductivity or device failures.
“People have been developing soft and stretchable conductors for almost a decade, but the conductivity is not usually very high,” said Tao Zhou, a professor of engineering science. “Researchers realized they could reach high conductivity with liquid metal-based conductors, but the significant limitation of that is that it requires a secondary method to activate the material before it can reach a high conductivity.” The secondary activation methods include stretching, compressing, shear friction, and laser activation, all of which can lead to challenges in production and can cause the liquid metal to leak, resulting in device failure.
The method does not require any secondary activation to make the material conductive. In the new method, the researchers combine liquid metal and a conductive mixture called PEDOT, which enables the liquid metal to transform into particles. When the soft material is printed and heated, the liquid metal particles on its bottom surface self-assemble into a conductive pathway. The particles in the top layer are exposed to an oxygen-rich environment and oxidize, forming an insulated (绝缘) top layer. The conductive layer is critical for conveying information to the sensor —such as muscle activity recordings and strain sensing on the body —while the insulated layer helps prevent signal leakage that could lead to less accurate data collection.
The material can also be 3D-printed, Zhou said, making it easier to produce wearable devices. The researchers are continuing to explore potential applications, with a focus on assistive technology for people with disabilities. This development could significantly impact the fields of soft robotics, skin-integrated electronics, and biomedical devices by providing a more efficient and reliable material.
28. What is the main purpose of developing the novel material
A. To reduce the cost of robotics manufacturing.
B. To enhance conductivity and device reliability.
C. To improve the conductivity of traditional materials.
D. To replace existing conductivity materials in the market.
29. How does the new method differ from traditional ones
A. It uses more expensive materials.
B. It results in a rarer conductive material.
C. It saves the need for secondary activation.
D. It requires more complex conductive processes.
30. What is the function of the conductive layers in the new material
A. Processing information. B. Securing the accuracy of statistics.
C. Stopping signal from leaking. D. Delivering data to the sensor.
31. What do researchers expect about wearable devices according to the last paragraph
A. Higher data collection reliability. B. Complete replacement of human bodies.
C. Convenient 3D-printing at home. D. Better integration with the human body.
D
The beliefs we hold develop from a complex dance between our internal and external lives. Our personal cognition (认知) and our relationships with others work together to shape our views of the world and influence how we update those views when we encounter new information, a study by Dalegeonas Dalege from the University of Amsterdam indicates.
In the past, these two levels of belief have been studied individually: psychologists have modeled the individual-level cognitive processes while researchers in social science and statistical physics have offered insights into how beliefs spread and change within a society. This disconnect when different disciplines are doing parallel (平行的) work limits progress.
The new study published in Psychological Review presents the Networks of Beliefs theory, which is designed to integrate the interplay of individual—and social—level belief dynamics (动力), and also include social beliefs: how individuals perceive the beliefs of those around them. The theory is the first to clearly distinguish between personal, social, and external disharmony.
To fully understand when and why individuals change their beliefs and how the dissonance together lead to different social phenomena, the researchers created a model of their new theory, using a method of statistical physics. “We map psychological concepts onto statistical physics concepts,” explains Dalege, “Then we represent these potential disagreements as energy and attention as temperature, which ultimately describes how beliefs change when we pay attention to different parts of our belief system.”
The model, which has been proved in large surveys, could be applied to a variety of real-world problems. It could, for instance, offer new tools for tackling the increase in polarization (两极分化) around the world. “To understand and be able to do something about polarization, we have to look beyond just the individual or social answer,” says Dalege.
32. What are the two levels of the belief we hold
A. Personal and social. B. Theoretical and practical.
C. Cognitive and affective. D. Psychological and physical.
33. How can we describe the Networks of Beliefs theory according to the third paragraph
A. Alternative. B. Impractical. C. Old-fashioned. D. Ground-breaking.
34. What does “dissonance” refer to according to Dalege
A. The unpredictability of personal beliefs.
B. The incompleteness of individual beliefs.
C. The conflict between new and existing beliefs.
D. The misunderstanding of a belief as a standard.
35. What does Dalege try to inform the readers in the last paragraph
A. A variety of problems the world is faced with.
B. The practical value of the Networks of Beliefs theory.
C. The most efficient solution to the global polarization.
D. The drawback of the Networks of Beliefs theory model.

Generation Z is Redefining Technology in a Digital Age
For Baby Boomers, it was the personal computer; for Gen X, the World Wide Web; and for Millennials, the mobile technology explosion. Each generation witnessed a major technological advancement that defined their era. 36 Instead of a generation being defined by technology, the first digital natives are redefining it.
Gzers are redefining how they engage with the world. The technology is smoothly integrated into their daily lives. Unlike previous generations, they have grown up with technologies like Google, Facebook and YouTube. 37 Ninety-one percent of Gzers say they even keep their devices in bed with them, according to www.sparks&honey. com.
38 With over 70 hours a week spent on devices, technology is so important to Gen Z’s lifestyle that it creates a new way of living that older generations may find it hard to understand. Some often criticize young people who are constantly on their devices for not spending enough time with family and friends. 39 In fact, that phone time is exactly how Gen Z is spending time with their favorite people.
Gen Z doesn’t just like and follow —they lead. Gen Z is not just consumers of technology but creators and leaders. While Millennials tend to use technology for passive consumption, Gen Z sees it as a tool for self-expression and innovation. Rather than simply engaging with content, they actively create it. 40
A. Therefore, technology is less important.
B. However, for Generation Z, there is a twist.
C. Gzers are even redefining what a relationship is.
D. These platforms are essential for living their lives.
E. As a result, they struggle to adapt to new technologies.
F. Using technology, Gen Z is significantly impacting the world.
G. Others complain that Gen Z favors virtual over real relationships.

第二节 (满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使其构成一篇完整的短文。
Stephanie, a freshman at East Peoria High School, had just finished her second day of classes, filled with excitement. Eager to enjoy the warm afternoon, she decided to take her bicycle out for a ride. The wind rushed past her, refreshing her spirit as she sped down a hill. However, in a cruel twist of fate, disaster struck. She suddenly lost control of her bike. The world around her seemed to slow down as she felt the bike slam into the ground. In a horrifying moment, she realized that one of the bike’s handle grips (车把) was missing, which left a sharp, exposed metal pipe that pierced her right leg, severed her artery (动脉) and flooded her body with intense pain.
Panic set in as she lay on the ground, her mind racing. A severed artery can cause rapid blood loss, leading to unconsciousness and death within minutes. Stephanie felt herself slipping away, believing she wouldn’t survive.
But in the midst of her anguish, help was on the way.
Kupris, who had been working on a woodworking project nearby, heard the chaos, dropped his tools and rushed outside. His heart raced as he dashed along a block, driven by a desperate desire to assist. Following a trail of blood that painted a distinct contrast against the pavement, he felt a surge of fear and concern. When he finally reached the scene, the sight that came into view was terribly horrible. There lay Stephanie on the ground, her face pale and her body twisted in pain, severely injured.
“The whole thing looked impossible, couldn’t be real,” Kupris recalled later, still shaking with fright. He saw a severe wound on her upper leg. Blood was pouring out of the cut. He called her but there was still no response. Panic surged through him as he realized he needed to act quickly —every second counted.
注意:续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好。
“What should I do ” echoed in Kupris’s head. Luckily, Stephanie opened her eyes.

M: That’s too bad. Tomorrow I’m visiting an important customer in the afternoon, but I’m free before lunch. Does that work for you
W: Sure, that’s fine.
Text 3
W: There’s an exhibit at the science museum about the progress in AI technology.

W: Did you watch the game last night
M: Yeah. And I thought both teams played superbly. Too bad one had to lose.
W: Right. I thought they were evenly matched. It could have gone either way!
M: That shot in the last fifteen seconds was really something.
Text 5
W: Did you see what that motorist did
M: No. I was looking the other way.
W: He made a U-turn right in the middle of Elm street and hit a kid.
M: Oh, no! That kid seems seriously injured.
Text 6
W: What terrible weather! Visibility is down to about 100 meters. I’ve heard it’s caused a lot of problems on the highway.
M: I know. As a matter of fact, Jack just called and said he’ll be at least an hour late because the traffic is so heavy.
W: He should have taken the train. I did, and I wasn’t delayed even one minute.
M: Lucky you. The weather report says it will be windy in the afternoon. I hope it clears up soon because I have to go to the dentist’s at two o’clock.

M: Wow. These roses are beautiful. Did you grow them yourself
W: Yes, I’ve been growing flowers as a hobby since 2005. At first, I liked the pleasant smell of the flowers that my husband gave me as a birthday gift, and later decided to plant some roses myself. So, I took the gardening course offered by the community center. And now I have unbelievable green fingers.
M: You have such a great pastime. I used to collect rare stamps and coins, but I have been so tied up with work these days that I can’t continue doing it.
W: I know how busy you are nowadays. Oh, by the way, you just started working at British Bank, right How is your new job
M: Oh, couldn’t be better.
Text 8
M: Remember last year when we went on holiday, Sarah
W: Of course, Mike! How could I forget hiking in the Rockies I totally lost myself in the breathtaking views, but the tracks were just challenging enough.
M: Right I was thinking, what if we plan another similar trip this summer Maybe we could focus more on relaxing things, for example, having fun in tents.
W: Hmm. We could stay in the city, like going fishing nearby, because the height and temperature were challenging. And do you remember carrying the equipment too I’d prefer to prioritize ease.
M: True. But where else can you find the fresh air and clear night skies
W: Fine, I’m convinced by you. But let’s make sure we’re better prepared this time!
M: No problem. You can count on me this time.

M: Me too. By the way, are you still thinking about opening an Italian restaurant
W: I wish I could. But I can’t do that unless I have a lot of money.
M: I know. Sometimes I wish we’d win a lot of money. But we need to be more realistic. Why don’t you consider teaching an Italian cooking class You’re a great cook and you could do it here at home.
W: Gee, that’s not a bad idea. I could get more experience and build a reputation. And then, eventually, I might be able to teach an evening class at one of the community colleges.
Text 10
W: Would it surprise you to learn that the colors around you can affect how you feel Well, it’s true. Orange can make us feel enthusiastic and talkative and it can give us good appetites too, so it is perfect for the kitchen or dining room. Red is a strong color. It can make us feel active and excited, so it is best used outside. Yellow can make us feel cheerful and happy. However, it should be used carefully because too much can make us out of patience. Blue is the colour that is the most universally preferred, and blue rooms can make people feel peaceful, so it is a good choice for studies or doctors’ waiting rooms. Blue can also make us lose our appetites so it’s only a good choice for the kitchen if you are on a diet. Green is often used in hospitals. It has the power to make us feel relaxed and refreshed. Therefore, don’t paint a work area green because you won’t get much work done. Green is a good choice for bedrooms. White is often used in doctors’ offices because it gives us an impression of cleanliness. However, it does nothing to relax us—we just feel cautious and nervous.
