The following s ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )imple exercise routine works as well as prescription medication (药物治疗 ) without the side effects.
A jog a day c ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ould keep your headaches at bay: Regular cardio workouts(有氧锻炼) may prevent migraines (偏头痛 ) , a growing body of research suggests.
Migraine patien ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ts had fewer headaches after doing 40-minute cycling workouts three times a week for three months, according to a Swedish study.
The exercise ro ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )utine worked just as well as one of the top migraine-preventing drugs-topamirate but without the side effects of depression and tremors(刺激 ).
Cardio ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )workouts can help with regular headaches, too, says Alexander Mauskop,M.D. ,director of the New York Headache Center in Manhattan.
There are a couple of theories on how it works.
Breaking a s ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )weat may relieve stress, says Dr. Mauskop. Headaches are often triggered by stress, and if you remove the trigger, you release the pain.
The fe ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )el-good chemicals produced when you exercise actually block your pain sensors, acting as a natural painkiller.
Since heada ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ches can be caused by many different factors like genetics (遗传 ),lack of sleep, or certain foods, cardio won't be the solution for everyone, Dr. Mauskop says. But one German study found that it helped 65 percent of patients, which makes it as effective as the best medicines on the market.
Dr. Mauskop recommends his patients do a half-hour reasonable intensity (强度 )cardio, like jogging, biking, or swimming three times a week. These workouts are meant to be slow and steady, as opposed to high-intensity intervals that alternate between all-out runs and rest.
Pushing yo ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )urself too much or increasing the intensity too quickly can trigger headaches in some people, so make sure your heart rate doesn't jump above 150 BPM. If you don't have a heart rate monitor, then breathe only through your nose. You’ll know you're going too hard if you can't keep up that breathing pattern.
Your migrain ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )es could start disappearing in a couple of weeks, Dr. Mauskop says.
28. According to the passage, the author may agree that
A. jogging, swimming and fishing are cardio workouts
B. neither cardio workouts nor topamirate has side effects
C. migraine patients may be cured by regular cardio workouts
D. cardio ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )workouts will be the solution for everyone with migraines
29. The underli ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ned word "triggered" in Paragraph 7 can be replaced by _

A. it eases the stress B. it breaks a sweat
C. it pr ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )events migraines D. it blocks your pain sensors

Three years ago, th ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )e president of Harvard, Lawrence H. Summers, got into trouble for questioning women’s “intrinsic (内在的) aptitude (能力)”for science and engineering. Recently, a study paid for by America’s National Science Foundation has found that girls perform as well as boys on standardized math tests.
Although boys in hig ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )h school performed better than girls in math 20 years ago, the researchers found that is no longer the case. The reason, they said, is simple: Girls used to take fewer advanced math courses than boys, but now they are taking just as many.
“Now that enrollmen ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )t in advanced math courses is equalized, we don’t see gender differences in test performance,” said Marcia C. Linn of the University of California, Berkeley, a co-author of the study. “But people are surprised by these findings, which suggests to me that the stereotypes are still there.”
The researchers looked ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) at the average test scores of all students, the performance of the most gifted children and the ability to solve complex math problems. They found, in every category, that girls did as well as boys.
Janet Hyde, a p ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )rofessor at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, who led the study, said the stereotypes about girls and math, had taken a toll (造成伤害).
“The stereotype t ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )hat boys do better at math is still held widely by teachers and parents,” Hyde said. “And teachers and parents guide girls, giving them advice about what courses to take, what careers to pursue. I still hear anecdotes about guidance counselors (顾问)steering (指导)girls away from engineering, telling them they won’t be able to do the math.”
The study also ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) analyzed the gender gap on the math section of the SAT. Since more girls than boys go to college, about 100, 000 more girls than boys take the test, including lower-achieving girls who bring down the girls’ average score.
32. What might be the reason to carry out the study
A. To put Harvard Univ ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ersity to shame for its president’s prejudice against girls.
B. To find out if there’s any gender gap in science.
C. To help girls to earn equal social status as boys.
D. To enroll more girls in advanced math courses in the university.
33. Which statement about people’s opinions of girls is NOT true
A. People still find ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )it hard to believe average girls perform in math as well as boys.
B. Highly educated peo ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )ple are more likely to accept the fact that girls can do well in math.
C. Many teacher ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )s and parents advise girls to avoid careers like engineering based on their talent.
D. Some guidance couns ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )elors think careers related with math are not suitable for girls.
34. We can learn from the text EXCEPT ______.
A. girls used ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com ) to perform worse than boys in math because they didn’t take as many advanced math courses
B. the stereo ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )type about girls and math may lead to misguided choice of future careers
C. the average low ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )er scores of girls in SAT math test prove that boys do better in math
D. the public doesn’ ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )t accept outspoken prejudice against girls’ talent for math despite the stereotype
35. The main purpose of writing the passage is to______.
A. report the findings of a research into girls’ math ability
B. criticize thos ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )e who hold the wrong belief that girls cannot do well in math
C. prove that the stereotype that girls do worse in math is wrong
D. help girls regain confidence in learning math well

Newspapers and Websites
Newspapers and ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )websites are two major new media in the world today, both of which can provide us with lots of news and information. But they’re different in some ways.
Newspapers enjoy ( http: / / www.21cnjy.com )a longer history and often come out daily with more reliable news and information. They can be carried and read almost anywhere you like. So many people like reading them. But they can only contain texts and photos.
On the other hand, websites are quite new and popular, especially among young people. Websites have not only texts with pictures but also audios and videos, which makes stories more interesting. What’s more, they are updated from time to time. So the latest news is always seen on websites instead of in newspapers. But it is not quite convenient for people without a computer connected with the Internet to get information from websites.
