In June, 11 year old Nigerian ballet dancer Anthony Mmesoma Madu was filmed barefoot, spinning and leaping gracefully in the air and landing in concrete, rain puddles (水坑). Just a few short months later, he has become an Internet star and gained a famous scholarship in America.
Madu thought he was being recorded for a study session by his ballet instructor, instead, the short video of him practicing his moves was posted on social media and has been shared widely across the world, with some of his fans including Hollywood actors Cynthia Erivo and Viola Davis.
His dancing also caught the attention of Cynthia Harvey, the artistic director of the ABT Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School of Dance in New York. Harvey was so impressed by his talent that she tracked him down and offered him a scholarship with the American Ballet Theatre where he will attend a summer school in 2021.
Madu says his interest in ballet developed after watching Barbie in the 12 Dancing Princesses, a 2006 cartoon about 12 princesses who share a passion for the dance. “When I was watching the cartoon, I told my mum that I want to do ballet.” he said.
He eventually got the chance to learn the dance after relocating to Ojo, a suburb (郊区) of Lagos with his mother, where they met Daniel Owoseni Ajala, founder of the Leap of Dance Academy. Ajala founded the dance academy in 2017 and has been teaching ballet for free to children who are unable to pay for a dance education since then.
When the self taught instructor learned of Madu's desire to dance, he said he encouraged Madu's mother to let him sign up. It was during one of their sessions that he recorded Madu's dance video, but he never imagined that it would circulate rapidly.
“The video wasn't something we imagined to come out the way it did. It was just something that was supposed to show corrections of movements. It was bigger than I imagined, and I started getting calls. Celebrities were posting us,” he said.

A promotion (促销活动) offering 98 yuan domestic plane tickets is being advertised by Chinese online travel platform LY.COM. While such a low price sounds amazing, there is just one catch: the purchaser is not told where the flight is heading, nor when it will take off.
The promotion has become a trending topic on Chinese social media as some people have been attempting to book them ahead of the upcoming May Day holiday. Labeled as a “destination blind box” on the site, tickets are purchased through a rather simple booking procedure, in which passengers provide their travel information, select a departure airport and then pay their 98 yuan. If the randomly chosen date and destination are unsuitable, users may ask for a refund, but once they “lock in” their tickets, there is no going back.
“Destination blind box” is now a hot topic on China’s online platforms. “I believe young people are a big target demographic (特定年龄段人口) for this promotion, because they not only enjoy the thrill of the unknown, but also like to show off their lives through these types of commercial activities. Like this one for instance, it doesn’t matter if they finally go or not. Booking a ticket and posting about it on social media can still suggest that one has adventurous and life-loving qualities,” said Fan, a marketing expert who has worked with civil aviation clients.
Many people not only shared the screenshots of tickets they drew, some even came up with a tutorial to teach the booking procedure under the free cancelling policy. However, some others claimed it is too rare to draw a ticket that is ideal. “If it wants to be a profitable activity, the release of the tickets must have been planned ahead and is not as random as it seems. It will not have popular airlines. The marketing campaign may also be aimed at the fast sale of some tickets from less popular airlines that were originally not that expensive. If they sell a large quantity of tickets, the company may still earn a profit even though the price is 98 yuan,” an expert in tourism suggested.
28. Which of the following best explains “catch” underlined in paragraph 1
A. Benefit. B. Mistake. C. Disadvantage. D. Charm.
29. What is paragraph 2 mainly about
A. The origin of “destination blind box”.
B. The purchase introduction to “destination blind box”.
C. The original purpose of “destination blind box”.
D. The popularity of “destination blind box”.
30. Why will “destination blind box” appeal to young people according to Fan
A. It allows them to experience various adventures.
B. It satisfies their desire to travel around China.
C. It helps them save money on the cost of travel.
D. It accords with their lifestyle and attitudes.
31. In which part of a newspaper can you find this article
A. Economy. B. Science. C. Culture. D. Advertisement.

Earthquake forecasting is one of the most ancient skills known to mankind. From ancient Greece to the present day, countless scientists have tried to develop tools to predict earthquakes. Their attempts usually focused on searching for reliable evidences of coming quakes.
However, there are many reasons why predicting quakes is so hard. “We don’t understand some basic physics of earthquakes,” said Egill, a research professor at the California Institute of Technology. Scientists have also attempted to create mathematical models of movement, but precisely predicting would require great mapping and analysis of the Earth’s crust. Other challenges include a lack of data on the early warning signs, given that these warning signs are not yet entirely understood. Actually, real earthquake prediction is very similar to the diagnosis of potential human illnesses based on observing and analyzing each patient’s signs and symptoms. As it turns out, quake prediction is extremely difficult.
Many sources show that earthquake forecasting was a recognized science in ancient Greece. Ancient Greeks lived very close to nature and were able to detect unusual phenomena and forecast earthquakes. The first known forecast was made by Pherecydes of Syros about 2500 years ago: he made it as he scooped water from a well and noticed that usually very clean water had suddenly become muddy. Indeed, an earthquake occurred two days later, making Pherecydes famous. Nowadays, seismic and remote-sensing methods are considered to have the greatest potential in terms of solving the earthquake prediction problem.
Currently, Terra Seismic can identify a forthcoming earthquake with a high level of confidence. Generally, Terra Seismic does not predict a quake if the earthquake’s epicenter is located beyond a depth of 40 km. Fortunately, such quakes are almost always harmless, since quake’s energy reduces before reaching the Earth’s surface. “Scientists have tried every possible method to try to predict earthquakes,” Bruneau said. “Nobody has been able to crack it and make a believable prediction.”
32.What do we know about earthquake forecasting
A.Scientists have been passionate about accurately predicting earthquakes.
B.As long as enough data is collected, earthquakes can be predicted.
C.Mathematical models of motion can simulate and predict earthquakes.
D.Scientists have not yet fully studied the structure of earthquakes.
33.How did Pherecydes successfully predict earthquakes
A.By seismic and remote-sensing methods.
B.By observing unusual natural phenomena.
C.By living in seismic zones throughout the year.
D.By looking into data on the early warning signs.
34.What was Bruneau’s opinion about the current methods of earthquake prediction
A.He strongly believed the Terra Seismic can solve the difficult problem.
B.He was sure that humans could accurately predict earthquakes in the future.
C.He considered it harmless to humans for an earthquake deeper than 40km.
D.He thought that scientists had no reliable method to predict earthquakes.
35.Which question does this article focus on
A.Why do humans predict earthquakes
B.How to protect oneself during an earthquake
C.What methods can be used to forecast earthquakes
D.When to achieve accurate earthquake forecasting

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Window shopping refers to the process of going from store to store — or even website to website — just to look at what is for sale. Many people can do window shopping during an average day. For example, a person can enjoy this type of shopping during a lunch hour, while waiting for friends to arrive. 36 Some people can spend the whole day going from window to window, appreciating (欣赏) the goods.
True window shopping is never a hurried activity. The number of displays people see or how much time gets spent on each one isn’t the focus. 37 Meanwhile, people pay more attention to the attractive way each store presents its goods.
38 A display containing a dining room table and chairs, for example, might give someone ideas for table settings, or other things used to dress up a dining area. In this sense, this form of shopping is a way to inspire creativity.
People often choose window shopping because it is an activity with no real duties. The lack of a timetable and not having to spend money let some people forget their worries and relax. 39
Looking at window displays is free. So anyone can do it, no matter what their current financial status (经济状况) is. 40 They simply want the pleasure of seeing what’s for sale and dreaming about what it would be like to have those things.
A. Window shopping can serve as inspiration.
B. They come back happily, ready to face their next task.
C. Instead, people care about what each display contains.
D. These locations have streets lined with different shops.
E. Some can use it as a way to kill time before the start of a movie.
F. Going window shopping with your friends can make it more enjoyable.
G. Actually, some people do it simply because they can’t afford to buy something.

Two Tickets to the Big Game
Two tickets. Only two tickets to the big quarterfinals basketball game.
Three pairs of eyes all focused on the tickets in Dad’s outstretched hand. Marcus, the oldest, spoke the question running through everyone’s mind, “Only two tickets But, Dad, which of us gets to go with you ”
“Yeah, Daddy, who gets to go ” repeated Caleb, the youngest.
“Dad, can’t you get any more tickets ” I asked. I might be the in-between sister, but I was just as eager as my basketball-crazy brothers were for a night out with Dad.
“I’m afraid not,” Dad answered. “Mr. Williams only has two season tickets. He was thoughtful enough to offer the tickets to Saturday’s game to me when he found out he’d be out of town this weekend.”
Dad scratched his head. “I guess I’ll have to figure out a fair way of choosing between the three of you by tomorrow morning. I’ll have to decide who deserves it most. Let me sleep on it—okay, guys and girls ” he added quickly before I could correct him.
The next morning, we hurried into the kitchen, only to find a note next to our breakfast, which read, “Mom and I go to pick up some books from the library. All of you get started on the Saturday chores as soon as you finish breakfast.”
“Chores! He’s got to be kidding.” Marcus said as he set down his glass of milk with a thud(砰的一声). “How can we concentrate on chores when the big game is a mere eleven hours away ”
“Wait for me!” Caleb added, drinking the last of his milk and dashing after his brother.
A few minutes later, as I was washing off the kitchen countertops(台面), I heard the familiar “thump…thump…thump” of the basketball bouncing off of the driveway. Frustrated, I knocked on the window three times. When the boys looked up, I meaningfully held up a kitchen sponge and dishtowel. Marcus casually nodded to me and held up five fingers. Sure, five more minutes! I shook my head from side to side as I began to replace the lid(盖子) on the garbage container.

One possible version:
In order to improve our awareness of safety and skills of protecting ourselves in any emergency that might occur in our life, all the teachers and students in our school were organized to watch a documentary about survival skills during natural disasters last Sunday.
When the documentary began at 9:00 am with pictures about huge earthquakes in history, many students immediately stopped talking and began to watch it with exceptionally great attention. The documentary showed us other disasters, like volcanic eruptions, hurricanes, landslides, tsunamis, typhoons, blizzards and avalanches, and related survival skills in the following one hour.
The documentary was quite beneficial to us since it provided us with first aid knowledge and ways to rescue others and ourselves.
【答案】One possible version:
Suddenly a white envelope on the inside of the lid caught my attention. It must have stuck to the lid by accident. But then I noticed that the envelope was actually taped to the inside of the lid, and someone had written the word “Congratulations!” on the front of the envelope, too. I lifted the flap on the envelope and pulled out a folded piece of paper, “To the one who deserves to go,” the paper read, and inside of it was a ticket to the basketball game! I can’t believe it!—I’m the one that gets to go!
That evening turned out to be as special as I’d imagined. Two seats at center court, and a dad and his daughter cheering their team to victory. The game was so competitive and I was so much engaged in the game that I had no time to feel sorry for my two brothers. But I knew that it would be a long-remembered lesson in responsibility from a dad who let his kids make their own choices and earn their own rewards.
