Born into a family struggling with financial problems, Nadeem’s childhood was far removed from the charming world of sports. His father, a construction laborer, worked tirelessly to provide for his family, while young Nadeem displayed an early love for sports, particularly football. However, destiny(命运) had a different plan.
It was during his early years that Nadeem’s talent for javelin(标枪) throwing was recognized by his coach Rasheed Ahmad Saqi. With limited resources and training facilities, the path ahead was filled with challenges. Yet, Nadeem’s determination was strong. He accepted the hardships, transforming them into stepping stones towards final goal.
Nadeem’s training was anything but usual. Lacking access to world-class facilities, he often used self-made equipment and practiced in open fields. He pushed his physical limits, carrying out very tiring workouts under the burning sun.
The journey was filled with failures and disappointments. Injuries, financial limitations, and the lack of proper equipment tested his determination. However, Nadeem’s toughness shone through. He refused to be discouraged, drawing strength from his ordinary beginnings and the solid support of his family and coach.
Nadeem explained to the Middle East newspaper that he’s always remained quietly faithful in his ability to hit over 90 meters.
“People have seen me throw long distances, and I have also heard chatter that I can go close to100 meters. But I don’t want to appear too ambitious. If I have crossed 90 meters once, my next attempt is to touch 92 meters,” he said. “From the beginning, I just tell myself to keep a simple approach, make small changes and hope for the best, and it has worked out for me.”
His success in the Paris Olympic Games wasn’t a given either; Nadeem has secured gold at the Commonwealth Games two years ago with a throw which cleared 90 meters, but his form had cooled since that summer. He’s also undergone more than one surgery in recent years as his dream for Olympic gold was threatened by injury.
24.Which of the following can best describe Nadeem
A.Intelligent. B.Responsible. C.Determined. D.Independent.
25.Which of the following contributes to Nadeem’s success in javelin
A.Support from a good coach. B.An early love for javelin.
C.Diverse training facilities. D.Ordinary family beginning.
26.What is a major threat to Nadeem according to the last three paragraphs
A.He is lacking in confidence. B.His ambition is too high.
C.His approach is too simple. D.He is suffering from injury.
27.What can we learn from Nadeem’s story
A.Easier said than done. B.A good beginning is half done.
C.Actions speak louder than words. D.Where there is a will, there is a way.

Museums are echoes of history that go beyond time and space. Recently, they have been attracting more and more visitors excited to experience culture directly. To meet the different and personalized needs of visitors, new methods, models and content have appeared, driving an increase in “museum tourism”.
The widespread use of digital technology has not only reduced the upkeep costs of cultural objects but also greatly cut down the geographical and physical boundaries of cultural resources, improving the visitor experience.
Technologies like XR glasses and 3D displays able to be enjoyed without special equipment are becoming key tools for interaction, enhancing the museum visitor experience. In July, the Shandong Art Museum hosted the “Endless Sea” AI digital art exhibition, China’s first marine- themed(海洋主题的) art show to use a new Al-generated content and user-generated content model, offering a deep, multi-layered experience.
Most museums rely on human or electronic guides. While human guides are interactive, they can be expensive. Electronic guides, on the other hand, often lack excitement and the “human touch”. In response, some museums have started trying out “digital-human” guides who can show maps, introduce exhibition, explain historical backgrounds, serve as brand ambassadors and mix historical atmosphere with modern elements. The digital-human guide is a new method designed to shift visitors from passive listening to active interaction, adding a high-tech element to cultural exchanges.
By using advanced technology and increasing global teamwork, museums are quickly becoming lively platforms offering deeper, more engaging cultural experiences. By combining tradition with modernization, museums are not only preserving history but also shaping the future of cultural engagement(参与).
28.What does the underlined word “upkeep” most likely mean in paragraph 2
A.visiting B.maintaining C.selling D.transporting
29.Why does the author mention “Endless Sea” AI digital art exhibition
A.To highlight a specific artwork in the exhibition.
B.To reveal the marine-themed art trend in China.
C.To show that technologies are adopted in museums.
D.To prove that AI technology is more interactive.
30.What is special about the digital-human guide
A.It is too expensive. B.It lacks human touch.
C.It is widely used in museums. D.It brings about active interaction.
31.What is the main idea of this text
A.Museum tourism is increasing rapidly.
B.Technologies are reducing museum quality.
C.New museum innovations offer deeper engagement.
D.Museums are facing greater challenges from technology.

A new study says that Americans have increasing questions about the value and cost of a college education. Most of the people taking part in the study felt that higher education in the U. S. is headed in the “wrong direction.”
Gallup and the Lumina Foundation carried out the study. It found that only 36 percent of adults said they had a “great deal” or “quite a lot” of confidence in higher education. That confidence level has decreased steadily from 57 percent in 2015. That was the first year in which Gallup measured confidence in higher education.
Experts say that fewer college graduates could worsen labor shortages in fields from health care to information technology. For those who do not go to college, it often means lower lifetime earnings. Georgetown University’s Center on Education and the Workforce said lifetime earnings for those without a bachelor’s degree could be 75 percent less than for those with a degree. The center also said that during an economic downturn, those without college degrees are more likely to lose their jobs.
This year’s study added new, detailed questions in an effort to understand why confidence is decreasing. Almost one-third of people in the study said college is “too expensive.” About 25 percent thought students are not getting the right education or taught what they need to succeed.
“It’s about saving money. That’s why I went to a two-year. It’s valuable for money,” said Freeman who is a 22-year-old sociology major at Diablo Valley Community College. She plans to go to San Jose State University for the final two years of college. Freeman said she understands the concerns about whether college prepares students for life and work. But she feels the only way to change structural problems is from the inside. “I am learning about the world around me and developing useful skills in critical thinking,” Freeman said. “I think higher education can stimulate students to want to change the system.”
32.What is the best title of this article
A.Confidence in higher education declined. B.Higher education cost too much money.
C.Problems in higher education remained. D.The value of higher education improved.
33.What does the author talk about higher education in the 3nd paragraph
A.Solution. B.Limitation. C.Significance. D.Confidence.
34.What causes people’s confidence in higher education to decrease
A.Expensive tuition fee. B.Lower lifetime earnings.
C.Racial discrimination. D.Economic downturn.
35.What is Freeman’s attitude towards going to college
A.Negative. B.Supportive. C.Critical. D.Uncertain.

第二节 (满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I like things to balance, partly because of my name, “Ava.” It’s the same backwards and forwards, balanced on a V in the middle.
When something bothers me, I try to balance the bad with the good—I have to stand in the back row of my class picture but I can reach the books on the top library shelf: I can’t wear a fairy(仙女) costume from the store but Mom makes a better one out of a bridesmaid dress. That’s why I don’t mind being the tallest kid in third grade.
One day, Ava Zafra joined our class and we became “Ava J” and “Ava Z”. So, I wrote a J. next to my name on my worksheet.
Bad: I didn’t like the way it looked. Imbalanced.
Good: If we had the same name, maybe we were alike.
I hoped we’d be similar, but we weren’t. She was the shortest student. She was also brave and different, painting her sports shoes black and pretending to be an alien bounty hunter, unlike my gentle cat on a rainbow.
At break, Samir yelled, “Over here, Ava!” When I looked at Samir, he shook his head. “Not you, Big Ava. I meant Little Ava.” From then on, I wasn’t just Ava. I wasn’t even Ava J.—I was Big Ava. I tried to think of something good about being big but I couldn’t.
The next day, Ms. Wu announced that we were going to perform a class play called Clever Jack who rescued a princess from a giant with the help of a wood fairy.
I wanted to be the fairy! Maybe I could wear my fairy costume! I prayed in silence when she announced each part. “The fairy will be Ava,” Ms. Wu said. My heart jumped. “I mean Ava Z.,” she said. Then, she looked at me. “Ava J. will be the giant.” My heart sank. I was going to be the ugly, scary, stinky giant!
The day before the play, we tried on our costumes. Little Ava looked tinier and shinier, but she looked like an evil fairy, not a good one. And me—a burlap(粗麻布) robe over my head. “Too bad we can’t trade.” Polly joked.
I ran to the bathroom, so no one would see me cry. However, I wasn’t alone.

Dear Emma,
I have some exciting news to share with you about a poetry recital I recently had at school!
Held last weekend in the stadium, the recital was truly a blend of imagination and emotion. My school mates showcased magnificent skills in their performances, sometimes slow, sometimes fast, all full of feelings. I recited a poem written by myself, earning a lot of applause out of my expectation.
The experience was incredibly rewarding. Not only did it improve my understanding about poetry, but also served as a reminder of how art can be a powerful medium for expressing ideas and emotions.
Have you had any similar experiences Looking forward to your reply and sharing.
Yours,
Li Hua
七、读后续写
Little Ava was there, her tears creating tiny dark spots on the bathroom floor. “Don’t look at me! I look silly.” she yelled. “But your dress is so pretty.” I said. “I don’t want to be pretty!” she complained. “I don’t want to be ugly. Too bad we can’t trade.” I sighed. We were silent, and then Little Ava smiled like an evil fairy. “Maybe we can.” The next day, I wore my fairy costume under the burlap robe meant for the giant. When we revealed our switch— her as the giant and me as the fairy— she looked out of place in the long robe, but perfectly evil. We high-fived, grinning, and agreed, “Ava power!”
Ms. Wu’s eyes almost went out of her head when we walked on stage for performance. Instead of the giant and the fairy, we’d swapped roles. Little Ava, in the giant costume, looked fierce with black makeup, and I, in the fairy costume, felt a surge of empowerment. The audience gasped and then leaned in with bated breath. We had their attention, and as we began our performance, a new energy filled the room. It was as if our roles had been waiting for us to claim them, and together, we balanced perfectly.
