As a child, I never considered myself an athlete at all as I was very uncoordinated(不协调的). However, I did love to run because I felt as if I was flying but this all changed two years ago when I suffered a knee injury. I was bedridden for two weeks and I had a difficult time moving even short distances. I literally cried myself on my way to the car for a few days.
When therapy (理疗) wasn’t working well for me, I signed up for a hot yoga class for girls, Bikram Yoga to be exact. Starting a yoga practice was truly a godsend (天赐之物) because it helped me gain strength in my knees but, most importantly, yoga helped me attain a more peaceful state of mind, body and spirit. Since each class was heated to 105°F, every time I stepped foot in the yoga studio, I’d feel a surge(涌起) of negative thoughts come upon me like a big ocean wave. Some of these thoughts were, in the beginning of my practice, so strong that I walked out of the class several times. However, as the months passed by, I noticed that when I didn’t get swayed away by my negative thoughts, I could stay in the hot room for longer.
After 3-4months of practicing hot yoga, my arms and legs were beginning to get definition. I also woke up with so much more energy than I had before starting my yoga practice and I gradually started shedding(减少) the pounds from my body. Yoga literally made me feel as if I’d taken a shot of energy drink and just gave me that burst that helped my knees heal and made my overall health better.
As I saw some of my classmates do poses that looked appealing to me, I started to think maybe I could do them too. Therefore, yoga helped show me that I have no real limitations physically unless I set those limitations myself through eating junk and thinking in negative limiting terms.
Also, practicing yoga in front of a mirror helped me connect with myself and practicing with a group of people really helped me to feel a greater sense of connection with humanity whereas before I didn’t. Overall, this yoga practice has helped me to see I’m part of a bigger picture in life!

About 72% of Americans use social media, where it’s common to make new friends, build relationships, or share photos of their daily life.
Social media allows people to connect in ways that wouldn’t otherwise be possible, and can often expand (扩展) people’s social circles, says Kathryn Moore, Ph. D., a psychologist at Providence Saint john’s Child and Family Development Center in Santa Monica. On social media you can connect with those people in similar situations and share worries, fears, and celebrations. Moore says. According to her research, up to 64% of teens report they have made a new friend
online, for example, and 83% of teens report that social media makes them feel more connected with their friends.
Social media can negatively impact relationships when you start comparing yourself to other people, including your friends, just based on their social media, Moore says. For example, some may fear their lives aren’t as good as their friends’ and take friendships away because they feel they’ re not good enough. Problems with self-esteem(自尊) can also appear when posting about some relationships on social media, but not all of them. “People might feel left out that they’ re not as important if they’ re not being shared on social media,” Moore says, “Cyberbullying(网络霸凌) can also negatively impact relationships, whether you are receiving mean comments or sending them to someone else.”
In order to grow a relationship that started online you should show the real you. To deepen a relationship that started on social media, Moore suggests talking on the phone or meeting in person. This allows for more fluid(流畅的) conversations, where you can communicate in real time. Remember that the people who you meet online can become an important part of your life.
“lf a relationship created through online resources is treated with respect and consideration, it can be a great way to meet someone you might never have had the chance to meet,” says Don Grant, Ph. D., chairman of the American Psychological Association’s Device Management & Intelligence Committee.
28. What can we say about social media according to Moore’s research
A. It has become the most important way for teens to make friends.
B. It prevents people from making friends in real life.
C. It can help teens to make friends.
D. It makes teens feel more lonely and lost.
29. What is the main idea of Paragraph 3

B. Building relationships online is not a piece of cake.
C. Relationship online makes people less connected.
D. Social media increases the risk of cyberbullying.
30. What does Don Grant think of the relationship online
A. It leads people to lose chances to meet face to face.
B. It is more respectable than the relationship in real life.
C. It can be meaningful if dealt with properly.
D, It can be developed in an informal way.
31. Which of the following shows the structure of the text
A. B. C. D.

While the rest of us are sleeping, freshwater turtles (龟) from Central America to Asia are getting out of the water and basking (月光浴) at night. There have been reports of this behavior before, but now a new study is the first to document the widespread occurrence(事件) . The findings suggest this may be a common and almost entirely overlooked aspect of many species’ ecology.
Dr. Donald McKnight, one of the researchers, said he and a colleague first observed freshwater turtles night basking at the Ross River in Townsville, Australia. “We think it’s related to temperature. The water is staying so warm at night that it’s actually warmer than the turtles like to be and they can cool down by coming out of the water,” says McKnight.
For the study, researchers put cameras to watch the night activity of as many freshwater turtle species as possible. The cameras were set up in 25 locations. They were programmed to take a photo every two minutes. They collected data on 29 species of freshwater turtles.
It would be lovely to think the turtles are just enjoying some leisure time when things are quiet. But the researchers note that in most cases, the turtles got out of water when the water was too warm and the air was cooler. Given the warming planet, that’s admittedly a bit depressing. However, not all of the nighttime baskers were escaping too-warm water. According to the study, turtles in India exhibited more basking on cooler nights, rather than warmer nights, and those in Africa spent more time basking at night in winter thàn in summer. The reasons for these differences are unclear. It may be that at some sites or seasons, turtles are escaping unfavourably(不利的) warm water temperatures, while at others, they are taking advantage of the warm air to increase their body temperature and escape unfavourably cold water.
Regardless of the “why” behind different species’ reasons for midnight basking, it’ s a fascinating look at behaviors not previously documented by scientists. And it is at least encouraging to know that turtles are figuring out important behaviors tied to climate change.
32. Why do the freshwater turtles from Australia get out of water at night
A. To search for extra food. B. To avoid natural enemies.
C. To cool themselves down. D. To enjoy the quietness outside.
33. What is paragraph 3 mainly about
A. How the study was conducted. B. What the study brought about.
C. Why the study was carried out. D. Where the study was made.
34. Which of the following are the researchers certain about
A. Turtles in Africa flee water often on summer nights.
B. The water is unfavorable for turtles to survive in India
C. The reasons for turtles’ different behaviors are obvious.
D. Night basking is caused by the change of water temperature.
35. How does the author feel about the finding
A. Skeptical. B. Positive. C. Surprised. D. Desperate.

They were your age once, too! So don’t let a little embarrassment stop you. It’s OK to go ahead and share what’s on your mind.
38
If you have a disagreement, can you consider things from your parents’ points of view If you can, telling your parents you understand their views and feelings helps them be willing to understand yours, too.
Try not to argue.
Using a friendly and respectful tone makes your parents more likely to listen to you and take what you say seriously. 39
What if it doesn’t work If you still can’t talk to your parents, seek other adults’ help. 40 Then follow all the tips above to make you communicate with that person well.
A. Explain your situation.
B. Try to understand them.
C. If you lie, they’ll find it hard to trust you.
D. Parents are the most important people in your life.
E. But it can be harder to start talking about personal topics.
F. It also makes it more likely that they’ll talk to you in the same way.
