Traditional presents
In the West, people often take flowers when they visit someone. Different flowers have different meanings. For example, people often give red roses to someone they love. In Greece, you must not give white flowers because that means that someone is dead.
When you go to a foreign country, it is always best to check what people usually do, so you do not make mistakes.

Advice for Jack
Hi Jack, welcome to China! It’s important to know what you must and must not do in China. Here I’d like to give you some advice.
Firstly, when you meet people in China for the first time, you must shake hands with them and say “ninhao”. In China, it is also polite to bring some proper gifts like milk, wine or other things. But pay attention! You mustn’t send others a clock as a present because that means unlucky in Chinese culture. As you know, Chinese use chopsticks instead of knives and forks, so you had better practise using chopsticks more in advance. By the way, you need to arrive on time, because it’s impolite to keep others waiting!
The Chinese way of life is different from the Westerners’. I hope the above can help you have a great time in China.
