My favourite sport is football, and I started playing when I was six years old. I usually play football after school, but sometimes I join in weekend games with my friends. I play twice a week, usually in a football stadium near my home. Football teaches me not to give up easily, so it’s more than just a game for me. I love playing football because it keeps me healthy and brings me a lot of fun.

What do sports bring us
Task: Invent a new sport. When you’re tired of playing the same old
sports, why not create your own sport A model is given.
Roof ball (A new sport)
Things you need
one ball
a slanted roof
How to play
Rules on scoring and winning
Players line up in age order, from the youngest to the oldest.
Each player starts with three lives.
The youngest player serves the ball onto the roof.
Players take turns to hit the ball onto the roof.
If a player lets the ball drop on his or her turn, he or she loses a life.
If a player hits the ball and it misses the roof, the player loses a life.
The last person with any lives left is the winner.
Study the invented sport in the model. In groups, decide what kind of sport you want.
Is it played in water or on a field
Is it about accuracy or about speed
Is it a single-player sport or a team sport
Pick a name for your sport.
Make a design of the sports field. Plan and find the things you need. You can use anything around you, or use just your body.
Work out the basic rules.
How many players are there in this new sport
How can players get points in this new sport
If it’s a team sport, what are the specific roles or jobs for each player in this sport
Time to play! Explain the new sport to your classmates and your teacher. You can ask them to have a try.
