There are few better ways to slow down and come together as a family than on a canal-boat break. Waterways offer a very different perspective on the UK, their quiet channels taking in some of the country’s most picturesque landscapes as well as its most fascinating industrial heritage.

Beijing has launched its first unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) logistics (后勤) delivery route in the Badaling section of the Great Wall, which enables tourists to receive summer relief items and emergency supplies within minutes, said the Badaling scenic area on Friday.
The south ninth watchtower on the extended line of the Badaling Great Wall serves as the delivery point for the new route. The area, which opened to the public at the end of 2023, mainly hosts activities such as outdoor hiking, adventure crossings, Great Wall studies and travel photography. The lack of commercial facilities at the area makes it difficult for visitors to attain supplies such as drinking water.
To address the delivery of supplies, the Badaling Great Wall scenic area partnered with a delivery platform to launch the UAV delivery route. Once at the delivery spot, tourists may scan a QR code with their mobile phones to place orders on a food delivery platform, and the supplies will be delivered by drones (无人机) within five minutes. A single trip to the spot usually takes 50 minutes on foot.
On the return trip, the drone may also transport the waste generated, significantly reducing the labor costs for the Great Wall’s maintenance staff, according to the delivery platform participating in the UAV service.
Among the most popular sections of the Great Wall, the Badaling scenic area was first opened to tourists in 1958, and has since received more than 200 million visitors from home and abroad.
In recent years, Beijing has been continuously expanding new situations for the application of the low-altitude economy. In addition to such drone delivery services, tourists can also take a trial class in pilot training, or enjoy the majestic view of the Great Wall from a helicopter or a fixed-wing aircraft.
24. Why do they choose the south ninth watchtower as the delivery point
A. The area supplies convenient facilities for the drones.
B. The area mainly hosts activities like outdoor hiking.
C. The area newly opened to the public last year.
D. The area lacks commercial facilities providing supplies.
25. What is the third paragraph mainly about
A. How the delivery system works. B. How tourists order supplies.
C. How long the delivery takes. D. How to launch the UAV delivery route.
26. How do they reduce the maintenance cost
A. By increasing the delivery cost properly.
B. By transporting waste on the return trip.
C. By largely reducing the maintenance staff.
D. By providing more commercial facilities.
27. What will the article probably continue to tell
A. The situation of the Badaling scenic area.
B. The popularity of the newly open area of the Great Wall.
C. The advantage of the application of the low-altitude economy.
D. The expansion of the application of the low-altitude economy.

A coral farm in the Bahamas is proving that the most efficient way to restore coral reefs may be growing them on land.
Coral Vita is a reef restoration project which grows corals using microfragmentation—the process of cutting corals into small pieces and positioning them near each other to trigger a natural healing and accelerate the rapid growth of coral tissue.
While on the farm, corals are also exposed to managed stress such as water warming or acidification, to help cultivate their resilience (弹性) —this process is also known as “assisted evolution”. Once fully grown, the corals are moved to degraded reef sites in the ocean where their impact is already noticeable.
“One of the restoration sites in Grand Bahama had 75 percent survivorship of corals after one year,” cofounder Sam Teicher tells Mashable. “In the Bahamas, if you have 30-50 percent survivorship after one year, that’s considered a good project. So we had one site 75 percent, another site 30 percent, another site 99 percent.”
During a mass bleaching (变白) in the summer of 2023, natural corals in the area were wiped out. But the corals Coral Vita planted, which had been given a resilience boost on the land farm, survived.
One of the elements that distinguishes Coral Vita from other reef restoration projects is that it is a for-profit organization, which Teicher says was a conscious choice.
“We felt like many environmental challenges weren’t being solved rapidly or effectively enough by those sectors, despite the best intentions and hard work,” he says. “So what if we could create a company that can pay for restorations instead of a donation here and a grant there, which is how most coral farming projects are funded, which unfortunately limits a lot of the critically needed impact to keep reefs alive.”
28. What does Coral Vita do
A. It collects endangered corals from the ocean.
B. It restores coral reefs by planting them on land.
C. It triggers a healing process of corals under the sea.
D. It cuts corals into pieces and plants them in water.
29. What does the fourth paragraph imply
A. The restoration process still face huge challenges.
B. The restoration process will surely bring great changes.
C. The restoration will greatly improve the environment.
D. The restoration has made significant achievements.
30. Why does Coral Vita choose to be a for-profit organization consciously
A. Because it can not acquire enough donation from society.
B. Because Coral Vita can pay for restorations with the profit.
C. Because most coral farming projects are funded by companies.
D. Because the company’s objective is to make profits from the project.
31. Which of the following might be the best title
A. What if Protecting Coral Reefs Means Growing Them on Land
B. How Was a Reef Restoration Founded in the Bahamas
C. The Great Achievements Coral Vita Has Achieved
D. Endangered Coral Reefs Were Saved by A Company

When visiting a doctor a few years from now, you can expect to be accompanied by a virtual version of yourself. This so-called digital twin will be a working model of your body that can be summoned onto a physician’s computer screen. Updated with your latest vital signs, it will help the doctor make an accurate diagnosis. It also opens the door for medicines and procedures designed specifically for you, greatly increasing recovery rates.
This might seem like fantasy, but the foundations are being laid.
Researchers at Queen Mary University of London already use computer simulations of the hearts of individual patients to evaluate different treatments for atrial fibrillation (心房颤动), a common disorder. It would be far too risky to experiment this way on someone’s real heart. With other organs also being twinned by scientists, it seems likely they will eventually link up to form a virtual body.
Digital twins are starting to pop up everywhere. Among other things, they monitor the health of jet engines on airliners, keep track of Uber’s network of vehicles and replicate Amazon’s extensive supply chain well enough for the online retailer to accurately forecast sales several years ahead. They are helping local authorities respond to the effects of flooding and letting carmakers shave years off the development of new models by simulating test drives and crashes. Twins are also being developed to help manage factories, companies and entire cities.
All this is being turbo-charged by recent progress in artificial intelligence (AI), which gives twins the ability to make predictions about their physical counterparts, and fine-tune themselves on new data.
Digital twins began as basic computer models of physical objects and systems. As computers have become more powerful, twins have become more plex design and modelling software means many physical objects initially take shape in the virtual world.
32. How does the digital twin benefit a patient
A. It can accompany the patient anytime and anywhere.
B. It can help the doctor make a precise diagnosis.
C. It can replace the patient’s body to receive treatment.
D. It can be called to the reality with the order from doctors.
33. Why does the author mention atrial fibrillation in the third paragraph
A. To stress the effective use of digital twins.
B. To promote the widespread use of digital twins.
C. To prove the theory is correctly used in practice.
D. To showcase the risk of using digital twins.
34. What does the underlined phrase in the fourth paragraph mean
A. Turn up. B. Pull up. C. Spring up. D. Put up.
35. What may be the author’s attitude to the future of digital twins
A. Indifferent. B. Critical. C. Negative. D. Promising.

第二节 读后续写(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Sports are more than competitions. To me, they mean growth under the care of others. I learned this the hard way.
I used to be very shy and often felt lonely. Although I did well in all the academic subjects, I was afraid of physical education. My classmates often laughed at me.
“Look at that girl,” they said. “Her feet don’t leave the ground when she runs!”
Their words embarrassed me. Moreover, whenever the teacher organized some competitive games, no one in the class liked to have me as their partner or team member. As a result, I often ended up looking at others enjoy their games.
Things would go on like that if not for a sports meet in my high school. By mistake, my name was put on the list of those who would compete in the women’s 1500 meters race. By the time people found the mistake, it was too late to change.
I was utterly dumbfounded (目瞪口呆的). l500 meters!Running against the best runners from other classes! And in front of students of the entire school! It would be the worst nightmare I’d ever have!
“You still have time to catch up because there is still one month before the sports meet,” my classmates all said this to me, including my teacher.
My desk-mate patted me on the shoulder, “Cool! You will run for our class! And we will do training together.” Yes, this is not just for myself, but for my class too, I said to myself. But still, 1500 meters to me was like Mount Everest to a beginning climber. I had no idea even how to start my preparation.
Fortunately, my desk-mate gave me a hand. Every afternoon after class, several of us ran together. They gave me strengths. While we were running, some others would stand by the tracks cheering for us. One month certainly couldn’t make me a good runner. But when I was standing behind the start line, I no longer felt lonely or afraid. I saw my classmates standing by the tracks waving at me as if about to run beside me.
