For the past few years, I’ve taken my vacation in the spring. One April I planned to visit a friend in Nepal, who had lived in the country for over 15 years
I flew into Kathmandu and spent a week visiting sites, and on Friday, April 24, 2015, we took a 45-minute helicopter ride to Lukla, a mountain town to the northeast. My friend had worked there before. We visited a nearby village on Saturday. We were served a delicious pancake and endless cups of milk tea; villagers made small talk and caught up with each other. After a couple of hours, my friend and I made a polite exit (离去) for a coffee break across the dirt path to our lodging, a house he had lived in while working in Lukla years ago.
As we sat in the kitchen taking a rest, I wondered why it felt like an underground was running under the village. As the sound started to shake, I looked out the window at the passers-by and thought it felt like a truck was driving by-impossible in this village. I looked at my friend and he said off-handedly: “It’s an earthquake.” Before I could ask questions, he began shouting to get out of the house. By the time I was running down the dirt path, I couldn’t run straight.
Away from buildings, we crouched (蜷缩) near a low wall, and unbelievably before our eyes, walls and buildings fell. In front of us, the end wall of the house we slept in collapsed (倒塌) the stones dislodging (移开) and falling to the ground, exposing (显露) the room in which we were staying. In a matter of seconds, every house in the village was damaged, with walls either seriously cracked, or partially or completely destroyed.
In the days and weeks that followed, we checked in with friends and shared stories of where we were and what we were doing. The event was so wide-reaching that it was difficult to understand, except through personal stories.

A. He visited his friend. B. He tried to look for a job.
C. He built a house for villagers. D. He moved to a village to enjoy life
25. Which of the following can best describe the villagers

26. What happened when the author stayed in the kitchen
A. He was injured by a collapsed wall B. An earthquake struck the village.
C. A truck drove by the village. D. He missed the train.
27. What can we infer about the village in paragraph 4
A. It was left empty. B. It was quite peaceful. C. It was badly damaged. D. It was attractive to visitors.

ChatGPT is an AI chatbot from OpenAI, an AI technology company in San Francisco. It can produce any kind of writing as required. Many schools are afraid that ChatGPT could result in dishonesty and harm learning. So the tool, called AI Text Classifier from the same maker, is invented. Its task is to decide whether the writing was produced by students or by AI programs
OpenAI warns that its new tool-like others already in use-is not perfect. The method for detecting AI-written writing“will be wrong sometimes,” said Jan Leike of OpenAI. “Because of that,” he added, “it shouldn’t be only relied upon when making decisions.”
Teenagers and college students were among the millions of people who began experimenting with ChatGPT after it was put into use on November 30. The tool is a free service on OpenAI’s website. Many people have found ways to use it creatively and harmlessly. Still, some teachers are worried that it could be used to cheat.
So far public schools in some cities, such as New York City and Los Angeles, began to block its use in classrooms and on school computers. Public schools in Seattle blocked ChatGPT on all school computers but then opened it to teachers. One spokesman Tim Robinson said teachers wanted to use ChatGPT as a teaching tool “We can’t afford to ignore it,” Robinson said. Students could also use the service as a “personal teacher” or to help create ideas when doing homework, Robinson said.
OpenAI talked about its new tool on a blog recently. But the company added that the tool could help to find some mistakes in writing as well as catch cheating. The longer a piece of writing is, the better the tool is at deciding whether an AI system or a human wrote something.
28. Who are more likely to use AI Text Classifier
A. Students. B. Teachers. C. Parents. D. Writers.
29. What is Leike’s attitude towards AI Text Classifier

A. It costs the users a lot of money. B. It often makes wrong decisions.
C. They can’t use it as a teaching tool. D. Students will take advantage of it to cheat.
31. What can we learn from the example of ChatGPT
A. Every coin has its two sides. B. Rome was not built in one day.
C. A good beginning is half done. D. A bit is better than nothing.

The stereotype (模式化观念) that girls most enjoy the social side of sport and boys the sense of competition is not to be believed, a study has suggested. In fact, boys and girls are much more similar in what they think makes sport fun than people think, according to researchers in the US.
To gather their findings, a team from George Washington University reviewed an earlier study which looked at what made sport fun for football players aged eight to 19.
They found that among the 81 ’fun’ aspects (方面), winning scored further down than might be expected after it was listed in 40th place. However, they did find some differences in priorities (重点) for what makes sport fun depending on the age or gender (性别) of the young athletes.
Younger players reported it was more important to have a coach who allowed them to play different positions (位置) than older players. Meanwhile boys considered copying the moves of professional athletes and improving their skills to the next level as more important than having fun on the field compared to girls.
The team said their findings, published in Women in Sport and Physical Activity Journal, could be used by sport organizations to make their programs more fun and keep children playing for longer.
“When it comes to organized sports, kids just want to have fun,” said Amanda Visek, associate professor of exercise and nutrition sciences at the Milken Institute School of Public Health.
“This research does not support the common. gender and developmental stereotypes we make about kids in sports.”
Dr Visek said their findings made clear girls and boys were “more similar than different” when it came to what made sport fun. “What counts most for girls and boys are things like trying your best, working hard, staying active, and playing well together as a team,” she added. “These findings are the same for athletes of younger and older ages and across recreational and more competitive levels of play.”
32. What belief do people traditionally hold about boys and girls in sports
A. They have different athletic abilities B. They like sports for different reasons.
C. They show different interests in sports. D. They play sports at different times of the day.
33. How do boys differ from girls when playing sports according to the new study
A. They like trying more different positions. B. They have better relationships with coaches
C. They care more about improving their skills D. They think it’s more important to have fun on the field.
34. What did the research team suggest sport organizations do
A. Offer fun programs. B. Make training time shorter.
C. Treat boy and girl players all the same. D. Invite professional athletes to coach kids
35. What can we learn about boys and girls in sports from Dr Visek’s words
A. They both always put winning first. B. Their interests in sports change as they grow.
C. They value different things when playing sports. D. They share similar ideas on what makes sports fun.
