The concept of an art museum is easy enough: that is about art. There are those rare museums focused largely or entirely on the work of just one person. Those senses can be all the richer when you know the museum is the artist's birthplace or onetime home. Here are four examples of such museums.

His “Appeal to the Great Spirit”, an example of the many sculptures Dallin made relating to Native Americans, stands in front of the Museum of Fine Arts. Born in Utah, he lived in Arlington (Texas) for the final four decades of his life.

Gorey purchased this 18-century house in 1979 and lived there the rest of his life. The house currently serves as a museum celebrating Gorey's life and work. It's also known as the Elephant House. As the former great employee of NASA, Katherine Johnson, whose life was described in the movie Hidden Figures, died on February 24, 2020, aged 101.
“NASA is deeply saddened by the loss of a leader from our pioneering days, ” said NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine on the webpage of NASA. “Ms. Johnson helped our nation push the boundaries of space and she also played an important role in opening doors for women and people of color to explore space. At NASA we will never forget her courage and leadership and the achievements we could not have reached without her. ”
Johnson was born in West Virginia in 1918. She graduated from West Virginia State University with a major in mathematics and became a teacher at a public school. She was also the first African-American woman to attend graduate school in mathematics at West Virginia University until she left school to focus on raising children.
Her life changed in 1952 after a long career break. A relative told her about open positions at the all-black West Area Computing section at the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics's Langley laboratory, and she began to work for the aerospace industry at Langley the next year. NASA depended on humans for complicated aerospace calculation as there was no high-functioning electronic computer. Female mathematicians usually took the job as their salary was lower. Johnson was one of those African-American human computers.
Johnson was initially in charge of aerospace analysis and then a space development mission when NASA was launched in 1958. Then she worked for the 1961 suborbital flight of astronaut Alan Shepard. Of all the problems that people face today, depression proves to be one of the hardest to pinpoint. People often suffer secretly, not wanting to admit their need of professional help. They continue with their normal routines and, many times, unhealthy eating habits. Now, health professionals are actually linking diet and depression and have found success in using diet to treat the disorder.
Several researchers and Australian institutions at Deakin University in Victoria, Australia, set out to evaluate the direct link between diet and depression. They carried out the study over a 12-week period and observed 67 patients with moderate to severe depression. For their control group. the patients received social support rather than switching their eating habits to a well-balanced diet. The other patients then received dietary counseling sessions where they were advised to eat a diet high in fruits, vegetables, and lean meats. After the trial period, over 30 percent of the patients had gone into remission with their depression. Only 8 percent of the control group actually experienced this same improvement. This trial has greatly helped researchers understand and better help patients suffering from depression.
Most Americans today do not associate their diet and depression together. Nearly60 percent of Americans eat over processed foods. 90 percent of added sugar comes from these processed foods. For people with depression, this diet might give a short energy burst, but it will eventually cause energy to sink, bringing happy moods down with it. Many people also love caffeine, drinking multiple cups each day. Again, they consume extra sugar. However, the caffeine can also disrupt sleep and cause anxiety. In addition, people with depression may have a tendency to turn to alcohol. Unfortunately, alcohol depresses the central nervous system, which will directly influence a person's mood for the worse, especially those dealing with depression.
According to the research, diet and depression do go hand in hand. Those suffering from depression should do away with processed foods as much as possible. With a few simple changes in lifestyle, these patients can improve their mental health and return to normal activities with renewed energy and joy.
8. What prevents patients from being identified according to the passage
A. Their reluctance to ask for treatment. B. Lack of professional help.
C. Unawareness of their diet problems. D. Inadequate social support.
9. What do we know about the study conducted at Deakin University
A. The patients in the study came from different parts of the world.
B. Two groups were divided on the basis of their levels of depression.
C. The control group enjoyed a better improvement in their mood.
D. It facilitates finding a better treatment for depression.
10. How do processed foods influence those dealing with depression according to the study
A. Chemicals in them will weaken patients' central nervous system.
B. Added sugar from them will finally lessen patients' happiness.
C. They can make patients more likely to be addicted to alcohol.
D. They will reduce essential mood-boosting nutrients in patients.
11. Which of the following is the best title for the text
A. What you need is just a right diet B. What is your depression killer
C. Is your diet making you depressed D. It's time to change your life style
D
In the midst of an already record-breaking heat wave, Phoenix, Arizona, set a particularly eye-popping record: the temperature only dropped to 97 degrees Fahrenheit overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday, setting an all-time record high for a nighttime low. When temperatures stay high overnight, they place a particularly heavy burden on the body, raising the risk of heat illness and death.
The U. S. —and the world—has seen a spate of extreme heat so far this year, including the planet's hottest-ever June and hottest week on record during the first week of July. Rising global temperatures from burning fossil fuels are the main driver of more frequent and more intense heat waves. And an El Ni o event is also boosting global temperatures this year.
A heat dome has been in place for weeks over the U. S. Southwest and Texas, and it has fueled many heat records. Phoenix has now seen 20 days in a row with a daytime high of110 degrees F or higher, a record that is likely to continue for several more days. A heat dome is an area of high pressure that parks over a region. High-pressure ridges, as they are also called, feature sinking air, which compresses and heats up. These ridges’ typical clear skies also allow the sun's rays to beat down on the ground, further raising temperatures.
Prolonged heat extremes pose a major public health threat because heat is the number-one weather-related killer in the U. S. ; it causes more human deaths than hurricanes, tornadoes and floods combined. Heat can cause dehydration, which leads the blood to thicken and makes the heart pump harder. That organ and others can be damaged by too much exposure to heat.
The soaring, triple-digit high daily temperatures grab the headlines, and they definitely are a concern—but when temperatures only drop into the 80s and 90s at night, the body doesn't get a chance to cool down. This is particularly a concern for those who lack air-conditioning, including unhoused populations. And heat is especially a health risk for the very young, the elderly and those with preexisting health conditions such as asthma and heart disease.
12. What can be inferred from the first two-paragraphs
A. Extreme temperatures can cause damage to our hearts.
B. Burning fossil fuels contributes to the hottest-ever June and July.
C. El Nino is the dominant cause of soaring global temperature.
D. The temperature at night has reached a record high in Phoenix, Arizona.
13. What is a heat dome according to the passage
A. It's a weather phenomenon that contributes to high temperatures.
B. It's a peak that the low pressure should reach.
C. It's the damage caused by too much exposure to heat.
D. It's the extra heat trapped in the sinking air.
14. According to the passage, what's the influence high overnight temperature has on humans
A. It is the top one killer in America.
B. Exposure to heat contributes to heart diseases.
C. Human organs might be impaired.
D. People accommodate to 80s and 90s Fahrenheit at night.
15. What's the passage mainly talking about
A. Soaring temperatures are hitting the headlines.
B. A new eye pop ping overnight low record is set.
C. Hot overnight temperatures threaten human health.
D. Global heat waves are causing concerns.
