第二部分:阅读理解(共两节,满分50分)
第一节: (共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。
A
What Is Your Pet Trying to Tell You
Animals want our attention, and sometimes they’re quite obviously about asking for it. Unusual behaviors are often our pets’ way of telling us to stop what we’re doing and play with them. It’s why Fido constantly chases his tail and why Kitty keeps rolling around. A desperately bored pet may have “bad” behaviors to get a reaction— even a negative one!
Feed me.
Sure, your dog loves you, but that’s not why he’s licking(舔)your face. A puppy learns to lick his mother’s mouth to get a little leftover food. So the puppy isn’t kissing you; he just wants a snack.
I’m stressed.
Cat owners also misinterpret their furry friends’ kisses. While a cat might lick you to show love, sometimes she’ll do it to ease herself. One way to tell if her licking is stress-related is to see if it goes on for an extended period of time. Biras also overclean when they feel anxious. Some will even drag out their own feathers.
My tail tells all.
Dogs wag(摇)their tails to the right when they see something or someone they want to approach, and to the left when they see something they want to avoid. When frightened, dogs curl their tails in, while cats wrap theirs around themselves. And if a cat’s tail looks like a question mark, she’s eager to play.
21. What does a dog show if it kisses its owner
A. Love. B. Hunger. C. Fear. D. Sadness.
22. How many kinds of pets are mentioned in the text
A. Two. B. Three. C. Four. D. Five.
23. What will happen if birds get nervous
A. They will drag others’ feathers.
B. They will approach someone they like.
C. They will stare at their owners for a longer time.
D. They will clean their feathers more than necessary.
B
Did you know that the average American child aged between 8 and 12 spends four hours a day on screens That works out to over 1,200 hours a year. While some of this screen time may serve a social or educational purpose, there’s no way that most kids need that much of it. We also know that too much screen time damages our mental and physical health. Kids are suffering from being sedentary (久坐的)and online for too long.
Starting in 2011, Ginny Yurich, a mother of five kids, urges her family to spend at least 1,000 hours outside every year. A year later, Yurich calculated that her kids had spent as much time outdoors as most American kids spend online. This, combined with the real benefits her family was experiencing, is the driving force in the creation of 1000 Hours Ouside, Yurich’s website that challenges other families to do the same. She advises using a physical tracking sheet to see the progress.
“Often, nature play is an activity that gets our leftover time. Usually, if there’s nothing else to do, we play outside. That single tracking sheet, with all those spaces to fill in, keeps the outdoors at the forefront of our minds and reminds us that it is a worthy activity choice.” When asked whether it was another burden on their schedule, Yurich disagreed. “Some people may worry that a lot of time outdoors could have a negative influence on children’s grades. Actually, any time I spend outside has helped me be a better mother and a more relaxed person. For my children, nature play has helped them socially, emotionally, and physically. There is not one other activity out there that gives you more bang for your buck(美元)— and often it doesn’t even cost a buck!”
Yurich, who estimates that over 100,000 families worldwide have participated in her challenge so far, hears from numerous people whose lives have improved as a direct result of it. They share joyful photos and describe special moments they would have otherwise missed. This reflects exactly what Yurich has learned herself — everyone is growing when we consistently include nature time in our lives.
24. What’s the function of the first paragraph
A. To arouse kids’ interest. B. To reveal a phenomenon.
C. To put forward a question . D. To stress American parents’ concern.
25. Why did Ginny Yurich create 1000 Hours Outside
A. To remind herself of her ambition.
B. To post her family’s life experiences.
C. To track her children’s outdoor activities.
D. To urge more families to get close to nature.
26. Which of the following will Yurich agree with
A. Nature play costs nothing and benefits us greatly.
B. Nature play is better to be done in our spare time.
C Nature play should give way to children’s studies.
D. Nature play is sometimes a burden on our schedule.
27. What can you infer from the last paragraph
A. 1000 Hours Outside turned out to be a hit.
B. Yurich is fond of doing something challeng ng.
C. Yurich enjoys sharing photos with her followers.
D. 1000 Hours Outside helps people have a stricter sense of time.

With everything else that technology can do for us today, it’s probably not that shocking that AI(artificial intelligence)can search the Internet and various databases for facts and report back on its findings. But what about writing a coherent(连贯的)— perhaps even entertainment-fictional story
To confirm it, I tried to use an AI writing machine to write a story as you can see from the sample below, which it created after I entered the first two sentences in italics(斜体):
Sarah began driving, even though she had no idea where she was going. The night was cold, and within minutes the first raindrops began to appear on her windscreen. She drove for two hours until she was back in downtown Ottawa. She walked out into the street, crying. I was shaking in my boots. I asked for a lift to the airport. As soon as I sat in the car, the rain started. Pam’s insurance representative picked us up in the late afternoon and we were back in Edmonton in time for lunch.
The two sentences following my input are actually quite satisfying, but then the point of view suddenly jumps to the first person, and the events in every new sentence seem to be jumping around in time illogically. And who’s Pam, anyway
However, as the article by Techopedia explains, true writing is driven by a purpose: to inform, entertain and persuade the readers, or perhaps a combination of these. And while the newest technology might be able to write clear, coherent sentences without a grammatical error in sight, its purpose is to match its surroundings, not to create truly original ideas.
Given these shortcomings, we can conclude that AI isn’t ready to write like Hemingway, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be useful to writers. For example, if you’re suffering from bottlenecks, feeding Ala few lines of whatever you’ve got so far could give you a fresh point of view, and even enlighten you on some new ideas about where to take your story. Rather than leading us to some future with no writers or creativity, this could actually do a lot to help writers create more.
28. How did the author answer his question about AI in paragraph 1
A. By doing a test on AI.
B. By referring to related papers.
C. By conducting a survey of writers.
D. By adopting the method of writing an essay.
29. What do we know about AI’s writing from the text
A. It has unreasonable content.
B. It has an appropriate point of view.
C. It features a serious and formal form.
D. It often contains grammatical mistakes.
30. What’s the author’s suggestion on AI’s writing
A. Use it to polish the original article.
B. Rely on it to create good stories.
C. Apply it in non-literary writing.
D. Regard it as an inspiration.
31. What would be the best title for the text
A. How Can Writers Make Use Of AI
B. Can AI Be Used To Create Stories
C. Will AI Replace Human Writers
D. What Is AI Writing

While hydroponic farms(growing plants in water), also known as “vertical(垂直的)farms”, exchange land use for electricity use, one project is trying to take the best of both worlds.
Using only natural light for photosynthesis(光合作用)and heat, Shockingly Fresh’s greenhouse in Offenham, England, can produce four-times the output compared with regular farming, while using much less energy than other vertical farms. This is because other vertical farms are closed systems, relying on man-made LED light and indoor heating to keep crops comfortable. “It is better for the environment. I can’t say it’s carbon- neutral but it isn’t as carbon-hungry as an LED vertical farm would be,” Nick Green, development director of Shockingly Fresh, said.
While other producers might say that Shockingly Fresh’s use of natural light means they can’t keep up the 24-7 production typical of farms that can leave the lights on all night, the company stresses that they match the consumption patterns of humans and use far less energy in the process. “Production isn’t completely linear even though it would be in a fully-lit vertical farm, but people don’t eat as much lettuce in winter as they do in summer,” he explained.
Offenham was completed in 2021, and is already producing lettuce and bok choy for sale at supermarkets, with strawberries planned for winter when the days become shorter. Even though Green thinks they can produce 2 million heads of lettuce per year, the location is just one- tenth of the size of future projects.
Offenham covers 3 acres. The Longford Vertical Farm, currently in the planning phase, will cover 32. Situated in between Glasgow and Edinburgh, with good access to major roads, Longford will include rainwater catching systems to aid with cutting energy costs, and native landscaping around the former mining area.
Hydroponics is allowing cities to have access to fresh produce much nearer to their high-rises. For example, a 51-story “farmscraper” is covered in hydroponic farms that grow food for those who live within, in Shenzhen, China. They’re also appearing on rooftops, like in Montreal, which will provide 2% of all food consumed in the Canadian metropolis.
B2. Why do plants of Shockingly Fresh have a higher output than other vertical farms
A. They are exposed to a natural environment for growth.
B. They are saved from the harm of man-made light.
C. They are offered a better photosynthesis system.
D. They are provided with more heat and light.
33. What does the underlined word “linear” mean in paragraph 3
A. Seasonal. B. Harmonious. C. Reasonable. D. Continuous.
34. What can we know about the Longford Vertical Farm
A. It is linked to highly advanced transportation systems.
B. Its production counts largely on its surroundings.
C. It has a grand plan for future development.
D. Its energy saving system is world-famous.
35. What’s the benefit of hydroponics to cities
A. Helping to strengthen the rooftops.
B. Giving a greener city environment.
C. Creating beautiful natural scenery for cities.
D. Making fresh produce available more conveniently.

While traveling in a group makes a journey fun, it can come with challenges. Unlike solo travel, you’ll probably have less control over the itinerary (行程)when you travel in a group. 36 No matter who’s in your group, you can have a life- changing journey together. Here are some tips for making group travel as smooth as possible.
37 If you’re in charge of planning the itinerary, avoid arranging too many activities in one day and set aside time for relaxation. For example, one day, you might book an adventurous trip, like hiking to ancient ruins, and plan to relax on the beach the next. This way, you can avoid stress and keep the group energized.
Be open to new experiences. If someone in your group suggests trying something you never considered before, whether it’s sampling porridge in Singapore or riding an all-terrain bike in Mexico, be open to the new idea. 38
Stay in touch. Ensure everyone in your group has a way to communicate with each other. 39 You might exchange phone numbers, set up a group text or print a list of contact information for everyone to keep with them.
Be patient. 40 For example, you may have to wait for someone in the morning before setting out or stick around a souvenir shop until a friend finishes browsing. Before you begin your trip, set realistic expectations and get into a flexible mindset. If you can go with the flow during your group trip, you’ll be more likely to have a relaxing experience.
A. Vote on activities.
B. Create a balanced itinerary.
C. Thus, you might discover something new about yourself.
D. It’s OK to skip a group activity if you need some time alone.
E. Besides, you may be around people with different preferences.
F. If someone gets lost or the group splits up, it’s easy to reconnect.
G. Traveling in a group means some activities will take longer than if you did them alone.

Mya was a middle school student. Her English teacher, a friendly lady, was strict with her students and attached great importance to their practical skills. Every semester, every student was assigned a task — do an act of “kindness” with their own effort and take photos to record the memorable moment. The exciting part was that the most moving photo would be selected and published in the school magazine.
When Mya was wondering what she could do, she suddenly came up with an idea - she could buy some gifts for the orphans (孤儿)on Children’s Day. But where should she get the money Lost in thought, she had no idea. But while she caught sight of other kids buying something in the store with pocket money, an idea flashed through her mind— earn some pocket money by making handicrafts (工艺品)
Mya shared her idea with her family during dinner that evening, which won their approval and support. During their conversation, her elder sister, Lily, suggested handicrafts should come in various styles and shapes and be easy to carry, which may appeal to more people. Most importantly, they should be sold at a reasonable price.
Over the next few weeks, Mya and her family were occupied in making full preparations for it. Everyone was busy making colorful friendship bracelets (手链), hand-painted greeting cards, and adorable keychains. Every beautiful shell strung on the chain was collected from the beach by Mya and her sister. Mya’s mother painted delicate designs on the greeting cards, with each stroke carrying a message of love. Mya’s dad skillfully carved the small wooden stand by hand, where all kinds of handicrafts would be on display. Laughter filled the room now and then.
The process of making handicrafts together brought them closer as a family and made Mya become confident about the “kindness” act, which she thought would be a success without any doubt.

Therefore, we call on each and every one of you to participate actively in this campaign. Stay active, and stay healthy!

第二节 读后续写(满分25分)
Paragraph 1:
However, their journey was not easy as they had imagined. Originally, their items went unnoticed when they were sold at the local market. But they didn’t lose heart and quickly worked out solutions together to promote their products. The following days, they brought eye-catching posters, highlighting the aim of their deeds, which attracted a lot of people. The passers-by were willing to make a difference to the orphans by buying their handicrafts, which they considered worthwhile. These items were soon sold out and their effort paid off — they raised enough money for the stationery.
Paragraph 2:
On Children’s Day, Mya and her family set off for the orphanage. They brought some notebooks, pencils and crayons to them. The moment the children received these “gifts”, they jumped with great joy and gave them a big hug. They spent the day sharing funny stories, playing interesting games and singing beautiful songs. At last, a memorable group photo was taken with everyone wearing a big smile on their face. Mya realized a smile, a hug, and an inspiring word all could be an act of kindness.

M: Well, the moon surface training in the spacesuit was physically demanding. In spacesuits you had to fight to bend your arms and move your fingers inside the gloves. But actually, the most challenging part was practicing landing and then taking off. We often spend 8 hours a day trying to learn what to do.
W: So how did you feel when you first heard that you were actually going to the moon
M: …
(Text 10)
M: I’ve just come back from a short music course called Singing for Beginners at Brownstoke College. Lena Phipps runs these three-day courses for people with no previous experience of singing. Lena used to be an opera singer, but no longer appears on the stage. Nowadays she occasionally sings in jazz clubs, but spends most of her time teaching. She was excellent!
There were only nine of us on the course I attended. Lena never takes more than ten students on a course. This means that everyone has lots of attention and plenty of opportunities to sing.
We were very nervous at the beginning, but every class begins with some exercises to help students to relax. There are followed by warm-up exercises to improve the quality of the voice.
