This summer, the eyes of the world turn to Paris to witness a global sports event — the 2024 Olympic Games. Previously, Paris hosted the Summer Olympics in 1900 and 1924. This year, the Olympics returns after a century to make Paris the second city to host three Summer Olympics after London.
Featuring 329 events across 32 sports, the 2024 Paris Olympic Games gather 10,500 athletes representing over 200 National Olympic Committees to showcase their talents. It’s worth mentioning that out of these athletes, there are 5,250 women - 50% of the athletes, while there were only 22 of them participating in the 1900 Paris Olympic Games. This may be the first Olympic Games with a completely balanced gender rate, with male and female athletes evenly distributed.
The logo for Paris 2024 combines three separate symbols — the gold medal, the flame and Marianne. Each of these symbols reflects a part of the identity and values. It is also the first time in history the same symbol pattern has been used for both the Olympic Games and the Paralympic Games. Its slogan is “Games Wide Open”, reflected in every aspect of the 2024 Olympic Games. On July 26th, the opening ceremony takes place in the heart of Paris along the Seine river. This is the first time in the history of the Summer Olympics that the opening ceremony doesn’t take place in a stadium(体育场). Winding their way from east to west, the parade of athletes cross through the center of Paris, passing many iconic monuments such as the Eiffel Tower and Louvre, displaying the romance and vitality of Paris in a unique way. Meanwhile, Paris is adding its own French talent to the Olympics with this new color choice. Departing from the traditional red-brick clay color, this marks the first time in Olympic history that purple has been used for the track surface.
The 2024 Paris Olympic Games, blending history with modernity, tradition with innovation, grandly opens in the romantic capital, Paris.
28.What can we learn from Paragraph 1 to Paragraph 2
A.Paris is the first city to host three Summer Olympics.
B.Paris provides a stadium of the same size for the Olympic Games as London.
C.The 2024 Paris Olympic Games has fully achieved the gender equality.
D.The 1900 Paris Olympic Games looked down upon the women athletes.
29.What can we infer from the passage
A.The 2024 Olympic Games and the Paralympic Games has different symbol patterns.
B.The opening ceremony doesn’t take place outdoors.
C.The color of the track surface is painted red-brick clay colour.
D.The athletes in the parade can appreciate Paris’ iconic monuments.
30.Which of the following patterns shows the structure of the passage
A. B. C. D.
31.The passage mainly talks about ______.
A.the distinct features of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games
B.the last influence of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games
C.the winding history of the Olympic Games

If you want to become a fluent English speaker, you should take some advice: there are four skills in learning English. They are listening, speaking, reading and writing. The most important thing you must remember is that if you want to improve your speaking and writing skills, you should first master the skills of reading and listening.
Read as much as you can. But your reading must be active. It means that you must think about the meaning of the sentences, the meaning of the unfamiliar words, etc.
There is no need for you to pay much attention to grammar or try to understand all the unfamiliar words you encounter, but the fact you see them for the first time and recognize them whenever you see them, for example in other passages or books, is enough. It would be better to prepare yourself a notebook so you can write down the important words or sentences in it.
As for listening, there are two choices: besides reading, you can listen every day for about 30 minutes. You can only pay attention to your reading and become skillful at your reading, then you can catch up on your listening. Since you have lots of inputs in your mind, you can easily guess what the speaker is going to say. This never means that you should not practice listening.
For listening, you can listen to cartoons or some movies that are specially made for children. Their languages are easy. Or if you are good at listening, you can listen to VOA or BBC programs every day. Again the thing to remember is being active in listening and preferably taking some notes. If you follow these pieces of advice, your speaking and writing will improve automatically, and you can be sure that with a little effort they will become perfect.
32. According to the author, which should you improve first among the four skills
A. Reading and listening. B. Reading and writing.
C. Writing and speaking. D. Speaking and listening.
33. To improve your reading, when you read, you should ________.
A. look up all the new words in the dictionary
B. think about what you are reading actively
C. spend more time studying grammar
D. copy as many words and sentences as possible
34. What does the underlined word “encounter” in Paragraph 3 mean
A. Meet by accident. B. Wind up. C. Lose on purpose. D. Look for.
35. Which of the following may the author agree with
A. Everyone should listen to VOA or BBC programs every day.
B. You needn't practice listening if you keep in reading every day.
C. Being good at reading is helpful in improving your listening.
D. You should take notes of whatever you are hearing.

Believe in yourself.
A smile goes a long way. When you walk in the halls, don't keep your eyes on the floor, 39 If you see someone you know, smile or say “Hi”.
Remember people's names.
You like it when people use your name, and so do other people. People may become angry if you just begin by saying “Hey” each time. 40 You'd be surprised at how often this might come in handy.
A. Raise your head and make eye contact with other people. B. Join in after-school activities you like. C. These tips can help you quickly turn some strangers into friends. D. Be friendly to others. E. If some people don't accept you, they're not the kind of friends you need. F. Besides, greet them in a kind way if they have a nickname(呢称). G. Knowing from your last letter that you are very worried about getting fat, I am writing to share with you my view about your problem.
First of all, I don’t think you need to worry too much about your weight, for it is not weight but health that is important for us. Nothing is more important than health. To keep fit, you’d better have a balanced diet, which provides enough energy for your body to function well. Moreover, it’s of great importance to take regular exercise and have adequate sleep. Sports like riding and walking are beneficial to your health and thus can help keep you in shape.
If you take my suggestions into account, you will find them helpful.
Yours,
Li Hua

Text 10
M: Hello, everyone. My name is Christian Bonnet, a French computer scientist and a true lover of Asia. Born in the 1940s, I belong to a generation that was crazy about “The Adventure of Tintin”. When I read “Tintin in Tibet” as a boy, I started looking forward to visiting Tibet one day. Then about 10 years ago, my wife and I made our first trip from Thailand to India passing through China. Of all my travels, this is the one that I shall always remember. We traveled for three months, and spent 12 days in Tibet, where we were deeply impressed by many sights, such as the Potala Palace and the Himalayas. But what really attracted me was the warmth of people and their spiritual power. The Tibetan people are really nice. When you take part in some activities with the Tibetans, you really feel a powerful energy. Besides, it was our dream to see Mount Qomolangma. When you reach the base camp of Mount Qomolangma, it is a wonderful experience. We have made 16 trips to Asia in 39 years, four times to China.
