The Bay of Islands is one of New Zealand's most spectacular destinations to visit year round. Its sheltered waters make it the perfect place to view a variety of marine life, including dolphins, whales and seals.
Regarded as the birthplace of New Zealand, the region affords a unique insight into early European settlement and Māori culture, making a visit to the Bay a must-do on any New Zealand itinerary.

the haka
The haka is a type of ceremonial Māori dance or challenge. Haka are usually performed in a group and typically represent a display of a tribe's pride, strength and unity. Actions include foot-stamping, tongue protrusions and rhythmic body slapping to accompany a loud chant. The words of a haka often poetically describe ancestors and events in the tribe's history.
The kiwi lives only in New Zealand. It is a very strange bird because it cannot fly. A kiwi is the same size as a chicken. It has no wings or tails. It doesn't have any feathers like other birds.
Each foot has four toes. A kiwi likes a lot of trees around it. It sleeps during the day because the sunlight hurts its eyes. It can smell things with its nose. There is a picture of a kiwi on New Zealand money.

The spouting action is caused by the sudden release of pressure. As steam or gas bubbles begin to form in the conduit, hot water spills from the vent of the geyser, and the pressure is lowered on the water column below.
Geysers result from the heating of groundwater by shallow bodies of magma. They are generally associated with areas that have seen past volcanic activity.
a geyser
Rotorua is the smelliest city in New Zealand and is caused by the sulphuric hot springs and geysers littered all around the region. Despite the smell, you couldn't believe how touristy a city like this was with the many hotels, motels, eateries, fast internet, etc all along the main road.

Manuka honey is one of nature's special gifts. Sourced from some of New Zealand's most pure and remote locations, it is renowned for its unique flavour. Manuka Honey is recognised worldwide for its unique properties not found in ordinary honey.

It is an activity that involves jumping from a tall structure while connected to a large elastic cord. The tall structure is usually a fixed object, such as a building, bridge or crane; but it is also possible to jump from a movable object, such as a hot-air-balloon or helicopter, that has the ability to hover above the ground. The thrill comes as much from the free-falling as from the rebounds.

William: Hello,I'm William Wood, the host of Amazing New Zealand.Today,we're going to talk
about what can best represent New Zealand. We'll start with business journalist Dave Edmonds.Dave, what's your pick
Dave: My vote has to be the Bay of Islands. It's one of the most beautiful places you'll find in New Zealand. There are boat cruises or hiking tours to explore the small towns and their rich history,as well as tours to observe and experience Maori culture. You will be astonished to see the haka on site. But,of course,it's the beaches and water activities that make the Bay of Islands such a popular tourist destination. And there's plenty of great wildlife to see along the beaches-penguins,whales, dolphins...All in all, the Bay of Islands is really what best represents New Zealand.
Felicity: Yes,Dave.I think the Bay of Islands is a great place too, but I have a different place in mind.
William: Folks, this is Felicity James, editor of World Nature magazine.Felicity
Felicity: Thanks, William. In my opinion, the places that best represent New Zealand are the geothermal parks, such as in the North Island area. The hot springs, geysers, bubbling mud,
and sulphuric pools make that area one of the most amazing places you'll ever see. The scenery there is truly unique to New Zealand.
William: Also, here with us is Jane Smith, writer of the Fantastic Life blog. Jane, what do you think
Jane: Well, I wouldn't choose a particular place. I think that if someone left New Zealand without
seeing a kiwi bird or a flock of sheep, they haven't truly experienced the country. What I'm trying to say is that what best represents New Zealand is not necessarily a place, but rather the experiences you get there.Try some manuka honey. See the haka. Go bungee jumping! In short, I would like to suggest that tourists not just visit iconic places in New Zealand- they should experience its culture.
Make up a dialogue about the best represents a place with your partner. using the common knowledge expressions.
