Which fruit personality are you
In the workplace, we have to be able to deal with people who aren't like us. No one will change for you, so you just have to respect their differences. When identifying personality types, I like to talk in terms of fruit. Nobody is just one fruit, but we all have a preference. And we tend to emphasize our top two, especially under pressure. Here are some fruit personalities and how best to deal with them.
Types Introduction &. Management
Apple: Hard Core Apple types are direct and don't suffer fools. They are fast, logical thinkers who love to win and hate to lose control. They'll get a result at any cost, but see conflict as sport. 1. Always stand up to them.
2. Get to the point.
3. Don't take it personally.
4. Watch and learn from them.
Mango: Juicy and Messy Mango types love life and can't afford to miss a minute. They love variety because they tend to be easily distracted and naturally rule breakers. 1. Talk big picture, avoid details.
2. Give them false deadlines.
3. Don't micro-manage.
Lemon: Concentrated Lemon types love structure and order. They are worriers who like security and predictability. They excel at spotting gaps in a plan. But too many rules can also be frustrating. 1. Respect their need for space.
2. Don't surprise them.
3. Listen with respect.
4. Show your pace.
Banana: Sweet and Gentle Banana types enjoy peace and shy away from conflicts. They are kind to react to others' requests. However, when they are too accommodating, they can be seen as indecisive. 1. Don't pressure them, motivate.
2. Create a positive environment.
3. Encourage regular feedback.
4. Be nice to them.
21. What do people of Mango and Lemon personalities have in common
A. They both prefer private space and specific deadlines.
B. They both dislike being restricted by excessive rules.
C. They both serve as good ice-breakers of the workplace.
D. They both need regular feedback and being motivated.
22. Who probably favors the Banana Personality
A. Jack, an innovative thinker who is willing to face challenges.
B. Adam, a brilliant planner who always sticks to his daily routines.
C. Nancy, a patient worker who prioritizes harmonious relationships.
D. Robin, an open-minded leader who advocates the value of diversity.
23. Where can the passage probably be found
A. In an academic paper. B. In an entertainment book.
C. In a book review. D. In a psychology magazine
B
As a college professor, I am required to hold an office hour before my lecture. These office hours are optional and tend to be busier at the beginning and end of a semester. In the middle, they can become quiet. A few years ago I was given a flute (长笛) as a gift, so I decided that I would use my quiet office hours to practice this new instrument. The experience brought unexpected insights into performance anxiety.
I held my office hour in the near-empty lecture hall, one hour before the class began. The hall was open to any student who wished to talk with me about coursework or to take a seat and quietly read before the lecture began. I would assemble (组装) my flute, open my lesson book, and begin working on the instrument I had never played before. I also followed online video lessons-all done in front of a few students who would come early to class.
I would begin playing long tones, closing my eyes and “forgetting” that anyone was in the room with me. I was surprised to find that I. felt no anxiety while learning a new instrument in front of others. Had I been playing my main instrument, I would have had more concern about the level of my playing and how my playing was being received. However, in this setting, it was clear that I was an absolute beginner with no expectations of impressing anyone with my mastery. My attention was set on figuring the instrument out. I had no expectations of how I would sound and had little expectations of sounding like anything more than a beginner.
There have been many things I have learned from my experiment of learning an instrument in public. Whenever musicians talk with me about their stage fright, I offer them this story.
24. What is “an office hour” for
A. The professors to show talents. B. The students to appreciate music.
C. The teachers to offer consultation. D. The lecturers to make preparations.
25. Why did the author play a flute
A. To pass the time. B. To give a lecture.
C. To do a research. D. To attract students.
26. What made the author at ease when playing the flute
A. The technique from the video. B. His impressive performance.
C. The audience's active response. D. His concentration on playing.
27. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text
A. My Joy of Learning a New Thing B. My Tip on Performing in the Public
C. My Discovery to Ease Stage Fright D. My Office Hour Before Every Lesson

Forests have been embraced as a natural climate solution, due to their ability to soak up carbon dioxide from the atmosphere as they grow, locking it up in their trunks, branches, leaves, and roots. But a new study confirms widespread doubts about the potential for most forests in the Western US to help control climate change.
Published in Earth's Future, the paper analyzed trends in carbon storage across the American West from 2005 to 2019. Led by Jazlynn Hall, a forest and landscape ecologist at Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies, the team found that throughout most of the region, climate change and fires may be causing forests to store less carbon, not more.
“There's a growing trend to use forests as natural climate solutions,” said Hall. “Many climate mitigation (减轻) pathways rely in part on additional forest carbon storage to keep warming below 1. 5℃ this century. We wanted to provide a baseline for how much carbon is currently stored in Western forests, how it's changing, and how disturbances like fire and drought pose a threat to climate mitigation targets. ”
The authors warn that many Western forests could see a rapid acceleration of carbon loss in the coming years or decades. “These challenges have the potential to compromise carbon storage capacity and weaken our ability to mitigate climate change, Hah cautions.
By providing a fire-new view of threats at landscape and regional levels, Hall and colleagues provide a framework (框架) that could help forest managers adapt site-specific strategies to strengthen forest resilience (复原力) . They also identify the remaining areas with the lowest risk and highest potential to store carbon, such as the Pacific Northwest.
“Our study develops new methods to carefully estimate forest-carbon storage at a regional level. track it over time, and find out the causes of changes over time, ” said Hall. He expects the methods will be useful in monitoring carbon storage levels going forward, as well as assessing the carbon impacts of management efforts such as forest thinning and planned burning.
28. What does the underlined phrase “soak up” in paragraph 1 mean
A. Put down. B. Take in. C. Bring up. D. Give out.
29. Why was the study conducted
A. To find the best forests for carbon storage. B. To promote forests’ carbon storage capacity.
C. To assess the current situation of forests. D. To measure the carbon released into forests.
30. What can we say about the future trend of Western forests
A. Carbon loss will speed up. B. They will become more resilient.
C. They will store more carbon. D. They will have no impact on climate.
31. What is the primary function of Hall's framework for forest management
A. Predicting future forest growth rates. B. Identifying high-risk areas for protection.
C. Mapping all the forests in the Western US. D. Helping managers adapt strategies to forests.
D
The term parasocial interaction (虚拟社交) was introduced in the 1950s by the social scientists Donald Horton and R. Richard Wohl. It was the early days of home television, and they were seeing people form a close connection with actors who were appearing virtually in their home. Today, the definition is much broader. After all, actors, singers, comedians, athletes, and countless other celebrities are available to us in more ways than ever before. Forming parasocial bonds has never been easier.
Psychologists document cases of parasocial relationships that can go much deeper, with severe consequences. Scholars note parasocial bonds range from casual talk about stars to intense emotions, to uncontrollable behavior and fantasies. At the deepest level, the parasocial relationship can be dangerous, such as when a fan loses touch with reality and secretly follows a star. It can also lead to confusion about one's own identity, particularly in adolescents who are still forming their sense of self, as they may model themselves on the media figures with whom they have parasocial relationships.
In 2021, two psychologists from York University, in Canada, found that forming parasocial bonds was strongly related to avoidant attachment. That is, people who tended to push others away in their day-to-day lives were more likely to relate to fictional characters. You can easily see how parasocial relationships could be a replacement when one finds real-life attachment difficult. This could start a feedback cycle, in which avoiding close relationships stimulates parasocial bonding, which in turn leads to reduced interactions with real-life family and friends as the fans spends their time and energy on someone who doesn't know they exist.
My purpose here is not to say that parasocial interactions are always bad for you, or even abnormal. Rather, it is to suggest that heavy parasocial bonding might be a signal that you are crowding out the real people who can give you the love you truly need. One way to address this is to get some more distance from your fictional friends, thus pausing the feedback cycle and giving yourself more space to pursue in-person connection.
32. How has parasocial interaction changed according to Paragraph 1
A. It has become more accessible. B. It has affected more celebrities.
C. It has lost much of its significance. D. It has turned into a two-way process.
33. What is Paragraph 2 mainly about
A. Reasons behind celebrity following. B. Origins of dangerous relationships.
C. Different types of parasocial relationships. D. Potential harm of parasocial relationships.
34. Which of the following can lead to parasocial relationships
A. Socializing with strangers. B. Having strong family support.
C. Participating in group activities. D. Struggling with relationships in reality.
35. What might the author suggest for those with heavy parasocial relationships
A. Meeting fictional friends in real life. B. Seeking guidance from professionals.
C. Hanging out more with real friends. D. Creating more space for being alone.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2. 5分,满分12. 5分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Humans have a need to share their beliefs and values with other people. 36 This has a solid logic: Sharing emotions and opinions can lead to imitation (模仿) , which can in turn create unity and enhance relationships.
Besides creating a bond, another reason you might want someone to model themselves on your feelings is to get them to alter their views. 37 The choice will depend on the other person's situation. If he/ she already agrees with you, then your negativity can raise the intensity of his/ her views.
38 Sometimes, people you are talking to don't already think the way you do. They will simply judge your statement to be hyperbolic (浮夸的) and biased. And you won't get them to imitate you at all. To an even greater degree, if they disagree with you, what you say will harden their values against yours. 39 When people are offended over the opinions they hold, they are much more likely to dig into their position against that of the speaker.
Imagine a person came to your house with a beautiful bunch of flowers. But when you opened the door, he/ she hit you with the flowers. 40
So, if you want to be more persuasive, consider the specific situations and share them more positively-in other words, turn your beliefs and values into a gift, rather than a weapon.
A. One size, however, won't fit for all. B. This is the so-called backfire effect. C. All you would want is to get the person out of the way. D. When you feel strongly about something, it's hard not to talk about it. E. This is essentially the result of using your flowers negatively as weapons. F. To achieve the goal, you can outline your views either positively or negatively. G. Positive emotions may be better at leading to imitation than negative emotions.

A Reason to Run
Justin and his friend David had known each other before they became classmates. David didn't seem to mind that Justin was small for his age. But on the first day of school, when David and Justin had lunch with the rest of the fifth-grade boys, Steven asked when David had started playing with babies. David laughed out loud and Justin felt uneasy.
Several weeks later, David called to invite Justin to his birthday party at his grandfather's farm. Justin didn't want to go. He had wanted to spend the day running. When he ran. the problems at school didn't matter, and being the smallest kid in his class didn't matter. either. So every day after school he practiced. And Saturday morning was the best time to run.
This Saturday, however, he reached the farm with Steven and the rest of David's friends. David's mother suggested that David show the boys around, so David asked his grandfather, Mr. Hamilton, to drive them to the foot of a hill. Mr. Hamilton left to prepare for the party. The boys decided to enter a cave, go out from a hole at its top, climb the hill and then hike back.
The entrance to the cave was a big stone room with huge wooden beams (梁) bordering the doorway. About thirty feet in was a wall of rocks blocking further entrance. From the hole in the ceiling, light shone on the back wall. David started to show the boys how to climb up the back wall. “Let me go first, ” Steven demanded. He grabbed David's belt and pulled him off the rock, throwing him into Rafael.
“Watch it! ” shouted David. But it was too late. He and Rafael fell hard against a beam and the wood started to crack. A second later the beam fell. Then part of the ceiling collapsed. Dust filled the air. When the dust finally settled, the six boys found themselves trapped in the cave and the only exit was the hole in the ceiling, which became smaller-too small for anyone to go out. Worse still, a stream of water was flowing into the cave.

Justin looked up at the hole and said, “I might be small enough to get out.” He volunteered to have a try. He climbed slowly up the back wall and, with some effort, managed to go through the opening. Once outside, he took off towards the farm at full speed. After five minutes, he slowed downed a little until he could get regular step. That was what he would have done in a real race, but he wasn't practicing anymore. He began counting the trees he passed. He got a regular pace and then picked up speed. He ran as he had never run before.
Suddenly, Justin saw the farmhouse. “Mr. Hamilton! Hurry! Everyone is trapped in the cave.” Without wasting a moment, Mr. Hamilton left for the cave while David's mom called the police. By the time Justin and David's mom reached the hill, the police had cleared the small opening and were pulling the boys out. Everyone was OK. Steven approached Justin and said “I sincerely apologize for making fun of you. It's amazing how quickly you managed to get help.” “Apology accepted. Running at that speed was no big deal,” Justin replied, feeling a sense of pride in his body shape for the first time.

Text 1
W: ①Could you speak up, please I can't hear you.
M: I have to be quiet because we are in a library. If I speak any louder, I'll be told off!
W: Just be slightly clearer. After all, we don't have to shout to be heard.
Text 2
M: Bye, Mom—I'm off to school! I wonder how many people will be there. Everyone keeps getting ill!
W: It's the time of year that viruses seem to like. Keep washing your hands and remember to wear your mask on the bus! Bye!
Text 3
M: I'm starting to panic! Tomorrow's test will decide which group I'll be in next year. It's vital that I revise all my chemistry work tonight.
W: Take it easy. I know it means a lot to you, but all this nervous energy is unnecessary.
Text 4
M: We split the bill equally at dinner last night. There were six of us, and the total came to $240.
W: That sounds fair.
M: Yes, and Michael gave the waiter a generous extra $20 tip.
Text 5
M: My grandfather says the older you get, the wiser you get. But he’s always forgetting things, like where he put his keys.
W: Being forgetful doesn't mean he's not wise. Have a conversation with him and listen to what he has learned in life. It may surprise you.
Text 6
M: I've always wanted to help you with the housework.
W: Oh, you're so sweet, dear.
M: So I've invented a machine that will take all the stress out of making breakfast.
W: What is it
M: It's called the “Butter Spreader”. I designed it in the engineering class. It's a knife attached to a motor that automatically spreads butter on toast. Of course, it can spread jam too—or butter and jam. My teacher said it was very unique.
W: Sounds interesting!
M: Here it is. Watch how it is used.
W: Oh dear, is the butter supposed to be thrown onto the floor like that
M: No. Perhaps I need to make some changes…
Text 7
M: Hey Fiona. I can't believe it is you. Why are you here I thought you were staying in your old school.
W: So did I. But last minute my dad got a new job and we moved to this part of the city. The journey to my old school was taking two hours each day.
M: That's a long time to sit on a bus, even for a bookworm like you. Wait until you see the library here; it's amazing.
W: That's great. I just wish that I could share it with my friends, especially Gill. She loves books more than me.
M: What's more, the sports facilities are excellent here.
W: That's good to hear only if my dad will not go and get another new job!
Text 8
M: I traveled to England over the summer and had a great time. I picked up so much of the language.
W: I bet it was exhausting. Was it scary staying with someone you didn't know
M: Not at all! It was Josh and his family. I was paired with Josh on the student exchange project. He is such a great guy. His likes and interests are similar to mine, so we hit it off straight away.
W: What sorts of interests
M: We're both into sports, particularly football and basketball, and we just didn't stop talking about them. Plus, his dad took us to a Premier League match in London, which was incredible. It was Arsenal against Manchester United, and it was shown live all over the world! It ended 3-1 to Arsenal, so Josh was really happy as that's his team.
W: Oh, wow!
M: He said if I come again, we'll watch a Liverpool game as they're my team. But he's coming to China first! We're planning to watch a Table Tennis Club Super League match together!

W: Hello, and welcome to another edition of “Ask the Writer”, the show that puts your questions to members of the writing world. Today's guest is Jin Oka, who has been writing comics for more than twenty years. It's good to have you on the show, Jin.
M: It's good to be here.
W: Jin, you were originally from Japan and moved to America when you were ten years old. You began selling your story ideas to comic publishers when you were just thirteen, so you weren't in America that long before making an impression.
M: Yes, that's right. I had grown up reading Japanese Manga comics but soon turned to Marvel and DC, which are both American comic publishers. When my dad got a job in New York, honestly, I was so excited, and I got into writing immediately.
W: Great stuff. Okay, let's go to our listeners' questions. The first one is from Chen who lives in Wuhan, China. She asks, “Who is your favorite superhero ”
M: Ooh, great question! I fell in love with characters like Spider-Man, Superman, and the Hulk from an early age, but the coolest superhero is probably Batman.
W: He's great, though Iron Man is my particular favorite! Keep listening, because after the break we'll ask Jin about his new YouTube channel for comic lovers. Don't go away!
Text 10
Before you run this marathon today, let me share an inspiring story with you. In September 2016, a running event that would go down in sporting history took place. It was the World Triathlon Series in Mexico and the Brownlee brothers were both competing in the final race. With about 700 meters left, Jonny, the younger of the two brothers, was leading by some distance. But as he neared the finish line, it was obvious something was wrong. He was moving from side to side and was about to fall over. Weakened from the hot conditions, his body could not go on. He was overtaken by the runner behind him. And then, just when all hope was lost and he was falling to the ground, he was caught by the third-placed runner. When Jonny looked up, he could see that the runner was his older brother Alistair, who had stopped to help. Together, the brothers ran the rest of the race arm in arm. The brothers crossed the line to the cheers of everyone in the crowd. Alistair pushed his exhausted brother ahead so that he could take second place. It was one of the most remarkable and moving moments in the history of world sports.
Now go out there and do your best!
