RanjitaGogoi was born in a small village Assam in 1962. When she was a girl, everyone could find RanjitaGogoi jumping and running around all the time. Also, she never felt tired. More American states are pushing for cellphone restrictions(限制) in high schools. The move comes mainly because teachers say it is a major problem in the classroom.
In a recent public study, the Pew Research Center reported that 72 percent of U. S. high school teachers say cellphone distraction(分心) is a major problem in the classroom. Teachers report less of a problem with younger students. About 33 percent of middle school teachers and 6 percent of elementary school teachers see cellphone use as a problem. Many educators in the U. S. said students used social media, listened to music, and shopped online during the school day. So, there is a need to take some measures.
In July, Virginia became the latest state to restrict cellphone use in public schools. The state’s governor, Glenn Youngkin, issued(公布) an order for local schools. Youngkin’s order said, “Studies show that students who use their phones during class learn less and achieve lower grades. They also showan alarming mental health possibility among young people. The possibility is driven by the use of cellphones and social media. So the restriction has to be implemented.”
Last year, Florida became the first state to restrict the use of cellphones in schools. A law that took effect in July requires all Florida public schools to ban student cellphone use during class time. The states of Indiana and Ohio passed their own laws this year. Several others, including Oklahoma, Vermont, and Kansas, have also recently introduced what is called“phone-free schools” law. New York Governor Kathy Hochul said she will push for law to ban cellphone use in 2025.
Some students say such restriction will take away their independence and cut off their main method of communication with family and friends. Some parents fear the children can’t get in touch with them if they meet challenges and trouble, so they argue against the rules.

Scientists from Fudan University have reached a breakthrough in creating a device(装置) that could enable people lying on the bed to walk again. Using the new device, people who are disabled could gain control of the muscles in their legs and walk again.
The spinal cord(脊髓) functions as a high-speed system connecting the brain and the surrounding nerve system. If the spinal cord is damaged, the instructions from the brain telling muscles to move can’t be transported. And patients will possibly lose the ability to move. Nerve injury is impossible to change for the better. There are 3.74 million patients with spinal cord injuries in China, and there are about90,000 new patients in the country each year. So the new device will mean a lot if it is used in hospitals.
Last year, a research team from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne carried out brain-spinal connection research on disabled patients. By collecting and figuring out brain signals and connecting the brain and spinal cord nerve pathways, the team was able to help the patients with spinal cord injuries gain control of their muscles again. However, challenges were in front of researchers, including understanding the exact activity in the brain and encouraging clinical(临床的) application.
In response to these problems, Fudan researchers invented a new generation of pared with the Swiss team’s research, which required patients to have three devices in their brain, Fudan research team combined the three devices into a single one. Besides, the new device allows the brain- spinal connection to be exact and fast. Moreover, the new device makes adjustments according to a patient’s movements of their legs. As a result, patients will walk normally like healthy people.
Such a device means that in the future, the patients with spinal cord injuries will walk more naturally and smoothly. JiaFumin, the lead researcher, said that clinical trials are expected to begin at a hospital later this year.
32. What’s the result of the damaged spinal cord
A. The brain stops giving instructions.
B. Patients end up losing their balance.
C. The movement signals fail to be received.
D. Muscles connect with the brains directly.
33. What is one of the difficulties for the Swiss team
A. Helping patients control muscles.
B. Lacking fund to support the research.
C. Collecting and processing brain signals.
D. Understanding the exact brain activity.
34. What can we learn about the new device
A. It is made up of three parts. B. It has been used in hospitals.
C. It speeds patients’ movement. D. It makes patients’ natural walking possible.
35. What’s JiaFumin’s attitude to the new device
A. Positive. B. Curious. C. Uncertain. D. Worried.

W: Hi, everyone. My name is Lily and I’m honored to stand here to share my most meaningful experience withyou. Last weekend I took part in a community voluntary activity. To do a better job, I had been required to study how to sort garbage through a video. But it was difficult for me and I felt confused. Thankfully, my parents came to teach me and finally I was offered a chance to do something for the activity. Then it was time for the voluntary activity. The purpose was to understand the importance of garbage-sorting and protecting the environment. All the volunteers gathered at the school gate early in the morning and then we took a bus to the community. On arriving at the community, we were divided into four groups, each making a speech to people living there. We gave a detailed introduction about the measures of garbage-sorting. Meanwhile, we stressed the difference it would make to our community. Moreover, a special question-and-answer activity left the best impression on the people. Through this activity, we have not only enriched our social experience, but also understood the value of environmental protection. I sincerely hope we can have another chance to make our hometown more and more beautiful. That’s all. Thanks for your listening!

Dear Mike,
Given your passion for getting close to nature, I’m thrilled to invite you to go hiking with me this weekend. The destination of this hiking is the natural park with a breathtaking sight.
To ensure a safe and comfortable hiking, we’d better wear a pair of cosy sports shoes and bring a bottle of water. Considering the hot sun, applying sunscreen before setting out is a useful way to protect our skin. What’s the last tip is remembering to bring your phone in case of an emergency.
If you are interested in the hiking, reply me as soon as possible.
Yours,
Li Hua
One possible version:
One day several weeks later, Tommy heard someone knock on the door. His mom opened the door, and a fireman walked in. “Is Tommy home ” The fireman said that he heard today was Tommy’s birthday and he came here to give Tommy a special birthday gift. Hearing what the fireman said, Tommy cried excitedly. The fireman greeted Tommy with a smile and said he wanted to take Tommy for a drive. Reading his confusion, the fireman smiled again and told Tommy he would understand what would happen next.
After a while, Tommy found that he was in a fire station. He was surrounded by firemen!“Tommy,” one of them said. “I’m Captain Jack, and I am here to make you a deputy!” Tommy was glad! He couldn’t stop smiling, and he was even happier when he went for a ride in the big fire truck! It was the happiest day in Tommy’s life. Many years later, he returned to the fire station—this time as a fireman—and he saw his pictures still hanging on the wall. He’d made it! He’d become a hero!
