Sample Writing
I find it extremely challenging to understand colloquialisms, idioms and slangs commonly used by native English speakers. There are so many daily English expressions that we seldom encounter with during our English learning. For example, when a foreign friend posts a WeChat moment saying “TGIF”, I have to consult the Internet to know what he means is “Thank God it’s Friday”. Sometimes, the expressions I use are so formal that some of my foreign friends would jokingly call me “Little Shakespeare”. This always leads to frustration and a lack of confidence when trying to strike a conversation with foreigners.
Sample Writing
Luckily, my classmates have some really good suggestions for me. For example, some of them suggest that I can expose myself to the language by watching TV series, talent shows and YouTube videos, especially those that focus on everyday life, which will help me pick up on some commonly used expressions. Also, they think it of great use to record and analyze my conversations with native speakers. This enables me to identify areas where I need improvement and allows me to practice those specific areas.
