To write a summary of the passage about fruit and herbal teas.

Para 1
British people love to make tea with fruit and herbs. With pleasant flavours and scents, and coming in a variety of colours, fruit and berbal teas make a nice change to tradittional teas. Many people grow their very own tea gardens, in which they plant easy-to-grow herbs such as mint and lemongrass.

Para 2

Para 3
Herbal tea has various health benefits. Many people enjoy herbal tea because it can have a positive effect on energy levels. If you need a good night’s sleep, choose a tea that helps you relax. If you haven’t been feeling very well, drink some ginger tea to give your immune system a helping hand. Mint tea, meanwhile, is good for digestion.

What is a summary
It is a short, but thorough and objective restatement of the main idea and key points of a passage. A summary may also mention some of the examples the author used to illustrate key points.
Learning to learn
When writing a summary, don’t just combine all the topic sentences. Instead, reconstruct the key information to make the paragraph coherent (连贯的), concise (简洁的) and natural.
Some hints for writing a summary:
1. Concentrate on main ideas and omit examples, details, and minor support.
2. The summary should be all in your own words.
3. Do not include your own opinion in the summary.
4. Write in the present tense.
5. Introduce the author or title of the work in the opening sentence of your summary.
6. Summary writing is an exercise in compression (压缩). In writing a summary, you may: omit the details or categorize them; reduce the examples; simplify the description; eliminate all repetitions (减少重复).
Examples:
▲His courage in battle might without exaggeration be called lion-like.
→He was very brave in battle.
▲John fell into the river and, before help could reach him, he sank.
→John was drowned in the river.
▲He was hard up for money and was being pressed by his creditor.
→He was in financial difficulties.

One possible version:
Then there was a noise. Alan’s heart beat very fast. Something was out there in the darkness. Alan’s mouth went dry. What was it Slowly, he reached for his flashlight. Another sound, near the cooking pots. Alan turned on the flashlight. There, with a bone in its mouth was a creamy-brown creature. It was about as big as his cat at home, but longer. Alan looked and the creature looked back. Then it was gone.
Alan felt a rush of excitement. Had it been real Alan looked around. No more noises. He moved near the pots and saw small dog-like paw prints. Carefully, he used the pots to cover them. Not long after, he woke up the next camper for night watch and managed to sleep a little. The next morning, the officer asked for reports. One girl said she had seen an owl. Most kids reported hearing noises. “I saw something,” said Alan, and he described it. Then he moved the pots and showed everyone the prints.
