As Elizabeth Stone once said, “Having children is like having your heart go walking around outside of your body.” You send them off to school and hope that the world treats them kindly because when they hurt, you hurt. Surely it's inevitable (不可避免的) that your child will experience hurt feelings at some point. So, it's wise to be ready for those moments.
But what truly prepares you for the moment when the child you love so much unexpectedly heals the wounds of your own inner child A mom, who goes by Soogia, posted a video on TikTok explaining a phone call she received from a parent in her daughter's classroom. The mom called to inform Soogia that their kids had been sharing lunch with each other.
Soogia wasn't prepared for what came next. The classmate's mother informed her that her son loved the food Soogia's daughter brought to school and wanted to learn how to cook it too.
That may seem like a small thing to some, but the small gesture healed a little bit of Soogia's inner child. Growing up as a Korean kid in California, Soogia had different experiences from her children.
“I guess I just never thought that my kids would be the generation of kids that could go to school and not just proudly eat, but share their food with other kids that were just so open and accepting to it,” Soogia said through tears. “They don’ t sit there eating their food alone, feeling ashamed and wishing that their fried rice was a bagel instead or something like that. And I know, it sounds so small and it sounds so stupid, but knowing that their experience at school is so different from mine in such a positive way is just so hopeful.”
Soogia's tearful video pulled at the heartstrings of her viewers who shared their thoughts in the comments.
“These Gen Alpha babies really are a different, kinder generation. I love them so much,” someone revealed.
24. What is the purpose of quoting at the beginning of the passage

C. To introduce the importance of walking around.
D. To contrast the different feelings between parents and children.
25. Why did the classmate's mother call Soogia

B. To invite Soogia to prepare lunch for the children together.
C. To inform Soogia of her daughter's improper behavior at school.
D. To express her appreciation for the lunch Soogia's daughter brought.
26. What makes Soogia feel comforted
A. Her child can finally fit in with American society.
B. Her child has gained friendship and recognition at school.
C. Her child needn't feel ashamed of their cultural background.
D. Her child can proudly eat and study hard.
27. What can we infer about Soogia's opinion of the new generation of children
A. Open-minded and tolerant. B. Adventurous and open-minded

Over the past few years, the health and wellness industry has experienced a significant boom, driven in part by the pandemic prompting individuals to prioritize(优先考虑) their well-being. This surge(激增) has led to a notable increase in the interest surrounding vitamins and supplements(补品) . Sales of dietary (饮食的) supplements in the US surged by 50% between 2018 and 2020, amounting to over $220 billion in 2020 as revealed by a study published in the journal Nutrients.
Amid this trend, social media influencers are actively promoting various vitamins and supplements as a quick fix for various health issues. Vitamins and supplements can be a beneficial addition to a person's health and wellness routine — if used and obtained correctly. However, experts caution that this promotion can sometimes perpetuate misinformation and potentially lead to harmful health consequences due to blanket statements lacking scientific backing. Dietitian Caroline Thomason warns against blanket recommendations, emphasizing the importance of personalized advice.
The question of “What vitamins should I take ” lacks a one-size-fits-all answer. Navigating the world of vitamins requires individualized guidance. Experts recommend consulting a primary care physician or dietitian. Conducting blood tests to assess vitamin levels is crucial before determining specific supplement needs. Personalized recommendations are essential as there is no universal approach to vitamin intake. If you don't have a deficiency, prioritizing a diverse diet to meet your nutritional needs rather than relying solely on supplements is advisable.
It's vital to exercise caution when considering daily vitamin intake. Certain vitamins, such as fat- soluble vitamins A, D, E, K, along with minerals like iron and calcium, should not be consumed regularly without professional guidance. Excessive intake of these nutrients without a deficiency can lead to toxicity and adverse interactions. It's vital to be aware of potential health risks, including liver damage, high calcium levels, bleeding, and kidney stones, which may arise from improper supplements.
In conclusion, while vitamins and supplements can enhance one's health routine when used appropriately, excessive intake without medical supervision can pose serious health risks. Individualized guidance from healthcare professionals is essential to ensure optimal well-being and avoid potential complications.
28. Why do experts caution against blanket recommendations for vitamin intake
A. Because they are gaining popularity.
B. Because they lack scientific evidence.
C. Because they are personalized suggestions.
D. Because they are influenced by social media.
29. What is emphasized as essential before deciding specific supplements needed
A. Consulting social media influencers. B. Increasing vitamin intake.
C. Using universal approaches. D. Taking blood tests.
30. According to the text, what does the underlined term “deficiency” in Paragraph 3 mean
A. Enough exercise B. Lack of vitamins
C. An inadequate diet D. Intake of supplements
31. What does this passage mainly focus on
A. Potential risks of improper diet
B. Influencer culture in the wellness industry
C. Importance of conducting blood tests
D. Importance of tailored supplement consumption

Ask any birder, and they’ll tell you about the great excitement of identifying a new species. Recently a tapping sound outside a window led my family to the presence of a striking, unfamiliar woodpecker (啄木鸟) in a nearby tree. Its head had large red feathers, and it was huge—— the size of a crow (乌鸦). Curious, my husband, a birder, turned to a phone app and soon knew it was a Pileated Woodpecker.
Curiosity is what drives us to find answers as soon as possible. In previous research, when people were able to choose whether to receive their highly anticipated (预期; 预料) answer to a question now or later, they generally opted(选择) for the fastest path to resolution. This impatience for answers shows a main function of curiosity: to reduce uncertainty.
But this picture of curiosity is incomplete. In a new study, we explored whether there are multiple flavours of curiosity. We found that although interest can drive an urgent desire for answers, it can also lead to more patience, setting people up for those moments of discovery.
We asked more than 2,000 people aged 19 to 76 years to watch a series of short videos. Each video started with a blank screen. A line would then appear and gradually take a shape. Imagine a dynamic line that begins to go upward and downward, tracing a series of triangles (三角形). The line then extends, forming an oval around the triangles, like an egg. Then, just as you start to feel certain about what the finished drawing will be, long, point y tips are drawn at the top, revealing the true subject: a pineapple.
While the participants watched each video, we asked them to report how curious they were about what the drawing would become. We also gave them the choice to either keep watching it slowly unfold or jump to the end of the video, showing the result immediately.
Interestingly, when participants were more curious about what the drawing would become, they were more likely to continue watching rather than skipping ahead to the answer. In other words, greater curiosity motivated people to slow down, be patient and invest in experiencing the winding path to resolution.
Learning new things can be tough, but making use of curiosity can help us enjoy the process of learning and feel happy in overcoming challenges.
32. Why does the author mention the woodpecker in the first paragraph
A. To indicate people's curiosity vary. B. To reveal the fun of bird-watching.
C. To introduce the topic of curiosity. D. To highlight the use of technology.
33. What did the earlier research find out about people's desire for the answer
A. They preferred to get it quickly. B. They wanted to get it by themselves.
C. They desired for different answers. D. They would like a delayed answer.
34. What were the participants asked to do in the experiment
A. Watch the screen and draw a picture. B. Observe and describe their feelings.
C. Learn to draw a complicated shape. D. Wait for the final result patiently.
35. Which of the following is the best title for the text
A. Curiosity Makes Us Patient
B. How People Reduce Uncertainties in Life
C. Learning new things is tough
D. A New Study Proves People's Eagerness to Learn

Well planned is half done. Here are some useful tips on how to keep a language journal to speed up your language learning.
Be committed.
When you begin to write a language journal, you have to be completely involved in it.36 That is every time you have to write something new whether it is a grammar rule you've finally got, a phrase you find useful in everyday conversations, or your thoughts about the way of practicing the language.
Don't forget to read your journal.
If you want to keep track of and remember something you've probably forgotten, read what you've written in the past. 37 You can start even after one week, for example. That way, you'll know if you have any additional questions.
38
If you wait to write without any spelling errors, you won't get too far. So, don't be stuck in spelling. You can just check and correct it later. It can be double-useful because when you read the journal, you can also see what types of mistakes you usually make and try to avoid them later.
Write down new words and phrases.
One important practice for your language journal is recording new expressions you' ve learned. For instance, you can write down a new word along with its synonyms or antonyms(同义词或反义词), which can help you understand the word better.39
Don't forget about the grammar.
If you aren't a passionate language learner, grammar can be boring. 40 So, naturally, it is vital for you to learn grammar rules and apply them while practicing the language. You can also compare it with grammar in English or your native language and see if there are any similarities or differences.
A. Write down common mistakes.
B. Don't expect to write a perfect journal.
C. You don't have to wait six months to read.
D. But grammar is one of the essential parts of the language.
E. It means that you should write it regularly and purposefully.
F. Those new words somehow become part of your memory forever.
G. Additionally, it can help improve your vocabulary in a faster way.

As a young boy, I was carefree. Every vacation I looked forward to two things— seeing my grandpa and hearing his wonderful stories. My grandpa was a very good storyteller. He had worked various odd jobs when he was young and wove his adventures and misadventures into fantastic tales. These wonderful tales colored my childhood.
As I grew up, I had to admit that Grandpa's stories went on a little long, even a little boring and gradually lost their magic. However, not wanting to upset him, my brother and I would sometimes take turns sitting in the living room, listening to grandpa tell his stories.
When my grandpa was approaching 91, he suffered from serious memory-loss. It was kind of what doctors called dementia(痴呆), probably the earliest stage of Alzheimer’s disease. Following the doctor's directions, we moved him into a Sunrise Assisted Living Community, where he could get a better care. After that, grandpa hardly came to our house.
One weekend before my grandpa’ s birthday, I came to visit him. Seeing grandpa sitting in his armchair, dull-looking, I was consumed with mixed feelings. I wheeled grandpa to the sunshine in the courtyard, talking to him. He couldn't express himself clearly and spoke in short bursts, but I listened to him patiently and carefully just as I used to be a little boy.
It was then that I noticed a shadow box with some old and yellowish photos in it. I picked one up, in which my brother, several boys in our neighborhood, and I were playing basketball with grandpa cheering us on twenty years before. My mind flashed back to those beautiful memories. Back then, Grandpa was in good physical condition and we were all wearing basketball jerseys, playing and laughing with abandon. I presented the photo to my grandpa, pointing at each member and reminding him of their names. Incredibly, grandpa could speak out the name of every player. I even caught a soft light in grandpa's eyes and a smile on his lips.

1. 续写词数应为150 左右;
