Lingling: There are a lot. For example, in my home town, people say you mustn’t do any cleaning on the first day of the Spring Festival. And you mustn’t break anything. It’s bad luck!
Daming: You must only use red paper for hongbao because red means good luck. And you’d better not have your hair cut during the Spring Festival month.
Tony: You can’t be serious.
Daming: And in the north of China, people eat lots of jiaozi!
Betty: Perfect! They taste great.
Tony: I like eating jiaozi too. Anyway, the Spring Festival is still over a month away. Let’s celebrate Lingling’s birthday first!

教学重点: 1.Expolore the reason why Lingling open the gift immediately. 2.Explore the reason why Tony and Betty are interested in Chinese traditions. 3.Summarize the icultyproper way of cross-cultural communication.
教学难点: Create a new conversation about how to receive a gift from a foreign friend and talk about Chinese traditions.
教学过程
Step 1 :Lead in Watch a short video about Jack and Lihua which have some key words of this lesson. GGrasp some key words like”later immediately accept”(学习理解) Step 2 Pre-listening The students brainstorm and talk about taboos of sending gifts in China so that they could feel the topic cultural differences. Activate their original knowledge about the topic before listening.(学习理解) Step 3 While-listening (for main idea) 3. The students listen for the key words and choose the right answer. Apply the skills of using the key words and taking notes, comb the structure of the conversation.(学习理解) Step 4 While-listening (for gifts) 4. The students listen for the details: to find out the cultural differences. 5. Think of Lingling’s feelings by imitating the sentences. 6. Discuss the reasons why Lingling opens the gift immediately. Analyze the changes of Lingling’s feelings throughout the dialogue and think of the reasons behind it.(应用实践) Step 5 While-listening (for Chinese traditions) Listen and find out Chinese traditions mentioned. Apply the skills of catching details and taking notes; learn the differences of different modal verbs.
