A recent study in Japan has revealed that a wearable soft robot, named Reliebo, can improve the
experience of patients in medical treatments, suchas injections(注射)and other unpleasant therapies. The
purpose of the robot is to help ease pain and defend people against anxiety. The study, led by researchers at
the University ofTsukuba, was inspired in part by the numerous needles people had to endure while being
vaccinated(接种疫苗)against COVID-19.Some people felt an intensedislike for these needles, which led
to fewer people getting vaccinated.
The robot is soft and covered in fur. It contains small airbags internally that inflate(膨胀)in response
to hand movement. Participants inthe study who wore the robot whilesubjected to a medium heat stimulation,
experienced less pain in the test than those who did not wear the robot. The test proved that the pain and
anxiety being felt could be reduced sharply by lessening the experience of pain through using the robot.
The research team checked the effectiveness of the wearable robot while being handled by participants
under certain conditions, based on the clenching of the hand. The team placed painful heat stimulation on the
other arm that was not holding the robot. They then measured cortisol levels from the participants' saliva
samples, suggesting levels of stress hormones. The pain felt by the patients was given specific ratings and
was also recorded using an assessment scale. The people in the study were given a survey test to assess their
fear of injections before and after the experiment with the wearable robot was completed.
The study proved that holding the robot can ease the experience of patients who were receiving
injections. The research team hopes to use this study to advance the robot for use during painful situations,
such as getting medical shots or similar conditions.
28. What is the function of the robot
A.To assist doctors in injecting accurately.
B.To help relieve people's pain from injections.
C.To evaluate patients'physical and mental health.
D.To assess the effects of getting vaccinated against COVID-19.
29. What does the underlined word“lessening”in paragraph 2 probably mean
A.Detecting. B. Increasing. C. Recording. D. Decreasing.
高二英语学科 试题 第4页(共8页)
30. What is the third paragraph mainly about
A.Methods of testing the effectiveness of the robot.
B. Reasons for conducting the experiment on the robot.
C. The advantages of the new robot in the medical field.
D.The process ofreducing people's fear of injections.
31.What will researchers probably do next
A.Evaluate the risk of the robot. B.Carry out more tests on the robot.
C.Promote the application of the robot. D.Develop other devices for medical treatment.

A smoke bomb from a party started a major blaze(火焰)near Los Angeles in September, just one of
many recent wildfires ignited(引燃) by people. Now, an analysis of satellite data shows human-caused
blazes spread much faster and kill more trees than ones ignited by lightning.
Fire has always been a part of California's natural history. But several centuries of human settlement
have created new conditions that promote its spread.Studies have shown human ignition is to blame for 84%
of all wildfires in the United States, and 97of all those that threaten homes.
Human-caused fires always seemed more extreme, says Stijn Hantson,a fire ecologist at the University
of California,Irvine, who led the new research. But measurements of how fast they spread and their impacts
on ecosystems(生态系统)in California had not been explored, he notes.
To examine those differences, Hantson and his colleagues analyzed satellite data for 214 wildfires in
California between 2012 and 2018.Human-caused fires typically spread about 1.83 kilometers per day, more
than twice as fast as lightning-ignited burns, the team reports. The faster spreading fires also burned more
violently and killed“double or triple”the trees as lightning-caused ones.
However, there is no fundamental difference in the chemistry of a human-caused blaze.“A fire is a fire”
Hantson says. “"It's the surrounding things that matter.”Causes of fires ranging from improperly thrown
cigarettes to sparking(冒火花)power lines could ignite a blaze on any given day, he says, while lightning
strikes and dry thunderstorms only happen seasonally.
The researchers tracked meteorological data and found that human-caused fires were more likely tostart
on days with extreme weather conditions, and weremore associated with drier,less-forested landscapes. This
adds to scientists'understanding of how humans are extending the fire season, says Nathan Mietkiewicz, an
ecologist with the National Ecological Observation Network.
32. The author uses some data in paragraph 2 to show that
A, wildfires are mostly caused by humans B.most wildfires threaten people's homes
C.wildfire is a part of California's natural history D. wildfires break out frequently in the United States
33. What's the purpose of Hantson's research
A.To prove how extreme human-caused fires are.
B.To find out the causes and solutions of wildfires.
C. To explore the speed and effects of wildfires caused by humans.
D.To examine the differences between a human-caused blaze and a nature-caused one.
34. How is the result presented in paragraph 4
A.By giving examples. B. By making comparisons.
C.By analyzing cause and effect. D.By giving definitions.
35. What can be inferred from the last two paragraphs
A. Human-caused fires and lightning-caused fires are basically different.
高二英语学科 试题 第5页(共8页)
B. Lightning strikes and thunderstorms can always lead to wildfires.
C.Wildfires ony happen in dry, less-forested areasl
D. Humans should be responsible for the extended fire season.

“Do you want to be on the team ”I asked.
“I do, but I'll probably get cut.”
As a little girl, Emily was fearless. But like many middle schoolers, she'd started to become more
cautious and less willing to make mistakes. My husband and I always said to our fearless daughter,“Honey,
why not put yourself out there ”
Her brother Ben, then 15, looked up from his phone.
“Well, you know, you should try out for JV. You definitely won't make the team ifyou don't have a try,”
he said.
“Are you out of your mind ”Emily asked.“If I take the challenge, what if I fail ”
“If you don't take the challenge, what if you regret ”he responded.
We encouraged her to take risks, to own her goals, to learn from failure and to bounce back
fromdisappointment. Finally, shewas determined to tell the coach to have a try.
The night before JVtryouts, the coachemailed the player and explained the process. Each day, the girls
could challenge the person directly above them on the ladder. At the end of the week, the top 12 players
would make the team.
Emily came downstairs to show me the email, highlighting one data point in particular. “I told you,”she
said.“I really am ranked the lowest. Number 25 out of 25 players.”
“Look on the bright side.”I said.“You've got nowhere to go but up.”
The next morning, she seemed a little nervous, and I patted her gently as encouragement. I drove her to

三、参考范文
When I picked her up that afternoon, she was noticeably calmer. She said she beat Number 24.“How
did you make it ” I asked with curiosity.“I encouraged myself to look on the bright side instead of
focusingon the final result.” she poured out her delight with her eyes flled with light and hope. Over the
course of the week, she continued to challenge up, Number 22, Number 19.. Obviously, the other girls
were all technically better, but she spared no efforts to fight for every strike. To our relief, she didn't give
up halfway, but moved forward bravely with the tryout proceeding.
One week later, Emily, landing at Number 15, was cut from the tryout. I searched my mind for any
possible word to comfort her, but in vain. However, she said with a determined look, "That's OK. I have
push myself out there.”What she really cared about was no longer the result itself but the fighting process
She accomplished more than what she had expected. Number 15, for her, was a sign to show a brand-new
herself, overcoming her fear and stepping out of her comfort zone. Emily's experience, forus, is a reminder
Learn totake risks, have the courage to fail and go down fighting.

M:Good to hear. In a month's time, you'll be able to do it with your eyes closed.
Text 3
W:It's almost quitting time, Ben. Are you joining us for dinner after work
M: Not tonight, Sarah. My doctor said I should plan a few quiet nights each week. So, Ill just make myself
a nice meal and have a hot bath at my flat.
Text 4
W: Thanks for coming. We've heard a lot about your services. Our entire yard's grass must get cut. Then,
you can begin laying out soil and plantingour flower and tomato plant seeds.
M: No problem, ma'am. My landscaping team and I should be finished by lunchtime.
Text 5
M: Is this pineapple juice I asked the server for a cup of lemonjuice.
W: Oh, the pineapple one is mine. She must have mixed our requests up. You asked for the juice with no
added sugar, right
M: Exactly. Iced soda water with lemon—that's how I like it

W: Stop joking, Grandpa. I've been looking everywhere for a position with good pay and benefits—this is
all I do daily!
M: I know, dear. I retired six months ago after working for this company for over 30 years! My advice:
don't be shy, don't fear failure, and keep an open mind.
Text 7
W: It's great to have you back from university, dear! Please, come inside. The whole family will return
home from the supermarket—we'll see the car pull into the driveway any minute.
M: Thanks, Mom.
W:So, how was your first semester
M: I started a work-study program at an accounting firm, but Ive had a sudden change of heart. Id rather
notwork with numbers. Instead, I want to switch to a creative field, like literature.
W: That's a big change!
M: Do you think it's strange to change majors
W:Oh, I changed my major whenI was your age, too. I know you'll do well in any field. My only concern
is about the career opportunities in creative fields. Please keep this in mind while choosinga major.
Text 8
W: Hi, I'm Helen. I'm retiring soon, so I'm going around this office to speak to all the recently hired staff
members like you
M: Its an honor, Ms. Schmitt. I've been so inspired by the many famous photos you've taken throughout
your career.
W:I'm glad to hear that. Are you also a photographer
M: No. This company's owner hired me and my team as video creators. But I love photography, too.
W: Back in the day, I was a photographer because that was the best way to share information. But
nowadays, I admire the modern journalists who use video.
M: Thats interesting. Sharing photos, written articles, and interviews has changed our world. But now, I'm
wondering what you think is the most critical part of journalism.
W:I've learned that it's not just about being honest and sharing recent events, although that's crucial. The
most essential factor is bringing the world closer together. Globally, we must celebrate victories and
supportothers during difficult times.
Text 9
M: Here's an article from today's paper—I thought you might be interested. It shows that people with strong
connections tend to live longer and happier lives.
W:Oh, this is what we were chatting about last week!
M: That's the reason I brought it for you. Mental health experts show that positive relationships can reduce
stress, which is often linked to health issues. When you spend time with your family and friends, your mind
produces feel-good chemicals called endorphins(内啡肽).
W: Ive focused on eating well for self-improvement. But should I consider this along with exercise and
sleep
M: Yes—these are all important. But keeping good relationships is powerful yet effortless. Owning a pet,
calling relatives, or eating dinner with friends can positively affect health.
W:Ive always dreamt of keeping a dogat home. Maybe Ill visita pet shop this weekend.

Text 10
Today, I have some interesting news for animal lovers. Scientists have created a clever way to protect
farms from elephants in South Africa. Of course, elephants don't attack humans or try to eat pets. But when
these creatures wander near farms or houses, they can easily crush plants, structures, or cars with their feet.
Recently, farmers have started using bees to keep elephants away.
Why would this work Elephants aren't big fans of bees. When they hear recordings of bees through
speakers around the farm, they run away. Bees can sting, and elephants can breathe in these insects through
their sensitive noses.
The best part is that it doesn't harm the elephants. It just reminds them to stay away. This creative
solution was proposed this spring, with tests of its results beginning this summer and finishing this autumn
If this works, it will protect farms all over Africa. It's amazing how creative ideas like this can help protect
both animals and farms. Now, let's hear from the owner of this agricultural center.
