The Summer Olympics in Paris is always impressive, but 2024 promised something extraordinary even before the games began — the seats you are sitting on! Made from locally recycled plastic, these seats are sustainability (可持续性) champions in their own right.
The Paris 2024 Summer Olympics made history in terms of sustainability, as 11,000 stadium seats made entirely of recycled plastic are used during the water sports. The plastic used for the seats was collected from recycling bins in the Seine-Saint-Denis neighborhood, and 80% of the 100 metric tons needed for the seats came from this area. The collected plastic was cut and torn into small pieces, processed and turned into new material by a local recycling firm called Le Pavé.
After the base materials are produced into plastic seats with different colors, the seats have gone through numerous tests, including mechanical resistance, fire resistance, as well as UV resistance. The recycled plastic chairs proved to be strong and durable, with producers reporting no problems in the production process.
The use of recycled plastic seats is part of Paris and France’s commitment to sustainability, with the goal of reducing downstream emissions (排放) by 50% compared to the 2012 and 2016 games. Additionally, the city is working to fight against environment worsening by making the Seine River swimmable for the first time in decades, in an effort to host the triathlon (铁人三项) there.
The recycled plastic seats not only promote sustainability but also raise awareness about waste recycling, with children being encouraged to throw their plastic bottles into appropriate bins. The Paris Olympics’ use of recycled plastic seats demonstrates the potential of a circular economy, where waste is repurposed and reused, ultimately reducing the amount of plastic waste in landfills and oceans.
24.What is special about the seats for the 2024 Paris Olympics
A.They won the championship in a competition. B.They are made with a mix of plastic types.
C.They are made from recyclable plastic. D.They are produced from local raw materials.

27.What is one of the goals of using recycled plastic seats at the Paris Olympics
A.To create continued economic growth. B.To reduce energy consumption.
C.To attract more attention to the games. D.To contribute to environmental efforts.

Researchers in China have developed a robotic chemist powered by Al that might be able to obtain oxygen from water on Mars. The robot uses materials found on the red planet to produce catalysts (催化剂) that break down water, releasing oxygen.
“If you think about the challenge of going to Mars, you have to work with local materials,” says Andy Cooper, a chemist at the University of Liverpool. “So I can see the logic behind it.”
The study was led by Jun Jiang at the University of Science and Technology of China. Jiang and his team used a mobile machine the size of a refrigerator with a robotic arm to analyse five meteorites (陨石) that had come from Mars, The team’s goal was to investigate whether the machine could produce useful catalysts from the material.
The AI-powered system used some chemicals to dissolve (溶解) and separate the material, then analysed the resulting substances that consists of two or more elements. These then formed the basis of a search of more than 3.7 million formulae (式) for a chemical that could break down water-known to exist as ice at Mars’ poles and under the planet’s surface a process the team said would have taken human researcher 2,000 years. The result was a catalyst that could release oxygen from water, with the potential for use on a future Mars mission.
If a catalyst that can produce oxygen from water can be made on Mars, this would remove the need for missions to carry such a catalyst from Earth. Jiang says that for every square metre of Martian material, his group’s system could make nearly 60 grams of oxygen per hour, potentially removing the need for astronauts on future missions to the planet to carry oxygen from Earth to use when they get there. “The robot can work continuously for years,” says Jiang.
Jiang points out that his group’s robotic chemist could also be used to produce other useful catalysts on Mars, for processes like fertilizing (施肥) plants. “Different chemicals can be made by this robot,” he says. And Mars isn’t the only place where it could be used. “Maybe lunar soil is another direction,” Jiang says.
28.What can we learn about the study
A.A chemist with a robotic arm is involved.
B.Researchers aim to purify the water on Mars
C.Oxygen is of vital importance in space travels
D.Materials from Mars are analysed to produce catalysts.
29.What is Andy Cooper’s attitude towards the study
A.Unconcerned. B.Approving.
C.Disapproving D.Skeptical.
30.What’s the major advantage of the AI-powered system in the study
A.Integration of materials. B.Precise calculation.
C.Flexibility of movement. D.High-speed operation.
31.According to Jiang, which of the following is correct
A.The robot can stand endless working time.
B.Martian catalysts can produce more oxygen
C.The system can make 60 grams of oxygen per day.
D.The robotic chemist can be applied in a broader way.

The law of supply and demand determines that an overabundance of anything will lead to a decrease in price. This rule applies not only to goods and services, but also to lifestyle and fashion trends.
In the 19th century, the primitive paintings of Picasso and Matisse shook up the positive image of the French bourgeoisie In the 1970s, talented musicians with tailored costumes and egos were overshadowed by a band of punk rockers who sang about the cruel realities of ordinary life in poor urban areas.
I predict that this will also happen with beauty standards. The idealized version of life portrayed in fashion magazines will reach a turning point, as people become tired of unattainable perfection.
During my time in Washington D.C. in the 1990s, I had the opportunity to interact with numerous political celebrities. While chatting with former presidents or bumping into TV pundits (名嘴) in elevators, I also assisted former Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara, who was my boss’s boss. What struck me was how plain these people appeared in real life despite their public characters. Like everyone else, they grappled with insecurities and mood swings, even though they were constantly under the spotlight.
Yes, it was great to drop names on the phone to my friends. My father, of course, couldn’t understand why I would ever want to leave there. “Because you’re not me and I’m not impressed,” I told him. We do not need to lead a luxurious life or make groundbreaking achievements to be content. Happiness can be found in living out the ordinary moments of an authentic life.
Most of us end up being ordinary people without doing anything that changes the world, but that does not mean our lives are meaningless. In fact, it is precisely this realization that leads to sustainable happiness because, when all is said and done, no one’s lifestyle is essentially better than any other’s.
32.What is paragraph 2 mainly talk about
A.People’s lifestyle was changed by French bourgeoisie.
B.New forms of art and music started to focus more on reality.
C.Artists and musicians called on people to lead a simple and real life.
D.Ordinary people’s understanding of art and music was always in a lower class.
33.What does the author’s observation about political celebrities suggest
A.They are just like ordinary people.
B.They lack the ability to lead a normal life.
C.They are not as successful as they claim to be.
D.They are not as intelligent as they appear on TV.
34.Which can best replace the underline phrase in paragraph 4
A.struggled with. B.agreed with. C.came up with. D.competed with.
35.What does the author want to imply in the last paragraph
A.No one’s lifestyle is as same as others’.
B.People should strive for a better lifestyle.
C.People should be content with their own lifestyles.
D.People should critically evaluate other people’s lifestyles.

Were you ever told to stop daydreaming and concentrate in school life It was easy for your mind to wander if you weren’t interested in what you were learning or if you had better things to think about. 36 Fortunately, understanding how to deal with it, and knowing what is distracting(使分心) you, can help.
Scientists have looked at what makes us distracted and found a number of ways to help us grown-ups stay in the zone. 37 Research by Science Focus magazine found it helpful to seat yourself at a quiet coffee bar working on your laptop. It also found turning off notifications on your phone, or switching it off altogether, removed a major distraction and helped us focus on the task at hand.
38 Psychologists are increasingly interested in our ability to get wholly absorbed in our work and have looked at what we can change inside our head to make us concentrate. According to their findings, making a task more visually demanding works a lot. Our brain may get the signal that the task takes up more processing power and leaves it nothing left to process distractions.
There are more practical tips to keep you focused. Make a reasonable list or timetable of the tasks you have to do. Find a workspace where you’re not tempted to do other things. 39 It’s possible that the movement in your mouth occupies parts of the brain that might otherwise get distracted.
As adults, we are trying so hard to avoid being distracted. However, distraction isn’t all bad. If we were always so focused that we never got distracted, we’d miss potential changes, such as threats, in our environment. 40
A.Or chew some gum!
B.The tougher a task is, the better.
C.In this sense, distraction is vital for survival.
D.Another possible way is to keep your mind busy.
E.Staying focused can still be a challenge in adult life.
F.One of the most efficient solutions is to get rid of noise.
G.Students may always find themselves distracted from the lessons.

Cold December wind passed right through my worn coat. I might have wished to be at home, but those days it wasn’t much warmer there than it was standing at the bus stop. Mama had written a letter to the electric company explaining that we were late paying our bill because my sister was ill and Daddy had been laid off, but the power was cut off anyway. That’s why we were on our way into town to pay the bill in person.
I sat close to Buddy Earl for warmth on the bus when it finally showed up. The walk to the electric company office from the bus stop was only a couple of blocks, but it was a relief to get inside.
After settling the bill Mama brought us over to Rich’s department store. There was Santa in a big wooden chair. “You two go talk to him,” she said. “Just don’t expect to get all you ask for.” Buddy Earl and I joined the line of children waiting, and Mama sat on a bench nearby.
Then Santa started talking with us and asked us what we wanted. Santa reached in his pocket, pulled out a notepad and scribbled something with a pencil. “Is your mother with you two ” he asked. I pointed to the bench. “That’s our mama over there. She’s waiting for us to finish.” Santa lifted Buddy Earl off his knee. “Could you ask her to come and talk to me ” he said.
Later, Mama and Santa talked for a few minutes. Santa took a couple more notes. Then Mama brought us home. We didn’t dare ask about their private conversation. Christmas morning Mama and Daddy gathered us around our tree to give thanks for all we had. There were no toys from Santa under the tree. No presents at all, really. But that was okay, especially since we had electricity again. I felt pretty good as I took my seat at the kitchen table.
Paragraph 1:
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door.

In fact, it is precisely this realization that leads to sustainable happiness because, when all is said and done, no one’s lifestyle is essentially better than any other’s.(我们大多数人最终都是普通人,没有做什么改变世界的大事,但这并不意味着我们的生活就没有意义。

故填is guaranteed。
故填have topped或have been topping。

Ladies and gentlemen,
I’m Li Hua. It’s my honor to make a speech with the title of “A Great Scientist”.
Everyone has an idol. Mine is Qian Xuesen, who is known as the father of China’s aerospace. Personally, he was a pioneer who was determined to pursue his dreams. More importantly, he was patriotic and served our country with effort, achievement and devotion. All of this makes him a great scientist.
Undoubtedly, as a teenager, the successor of socialism should learn and pass on his scientific spirits as well as his perseverance in the face of frustrations.

【点睛】[高分句型1] Mine is Qian Xuesen, who is known as the father of China’s aerospace.(运用了who引导的非限制性定语从句)

67.Paragraph 1:
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. Daddy opened it to a man I’d never seen before. He was holding a big box. “this is for you and your family,” he said, “Merry Christmas!” The man was gone before Daddy even had a chance to invite him in. Daddy put the box on the table and opened it up. Inside was an envelope and a lot of food! Daddy read the letter from the envelope. “May you be happy!”
Paragraph 2:
Mama and Daddy looked at each other, and she unpacked the food from the box. The first thing was a big can of pork and beans. Buddy Earl’s eyes went wide. “An angel came to our door today,” Mama said as she pulled out a big box of Sugar Crisp. With gratitude, we had a happy Christmas. Not long after the festival, Daddy was called back to work. My sister recovered from her illness. I even received a new coat, which was thicker than my old one and kept me warm.
如:had a chance , went wide , With gratitude, recovered from 等词语。Inside was an envelope and a lot of food! I even received a new coat, which was thicker than my old one and kept me warm.
