Here are four movies for you to watch with your kids.
The Mighty Ducks (1992)
It’s never too early to show your kids a sports movie. You probably have already known the plot of this one: A coach teaches the worst youth team in the league the power of teamwork. What makes this movie different is that the team expect just as much from their coach as he does of them, and give him severe criticism when he doesn’t come through.
Where to stream: Disney+, Digital rental
Cats Don’t Dance (1997)
Those who have seen it absolutely love it for the songs penned by Randy Newman, animated choreography(编舞) developed by the late, great Gene Kelly, and a fun story about a cat named Danny who dreams of breaking into Hollywood.
Where to stream: Tubi, The Roku Channel, Digital rental
Fly Away Home (1996)
Before they were a couple in Noah Baumbach’s The Squid and the Whale, Jeff Daniels and Anna Paquin play a father and daughter who build a plane so they can lead a group of geese on their first migration(迁徙) south for the winter. Assuming your children aren’t into mid-2000s art house films, the pairing of these two actors won’t affect their enjoyment of this heartwarming, visually impressive film.
Where to stream: MGM+, Digital rental
Babe: Pig in the City (1998)
Director George Miller builds a tough but dreamy city that tests the optimism of its hero, a pi g trying to save his farm from closedown. While this may not mean much to your kids, the film is a favorite of musician Tom Waits, making it much cooler than your typical kid’s movie.

On April 27, seven La Salle students traveled to Oregon Episcopal School (OES) to attend the annual Oregon Girls Sports Leadership Summit (OGSLS), aiming to educate participants on leadership and prepare them to be leaders in their own communities. About 200 students were in attendance, coming from schools all over Oregon to spend a day at OES.
For freshman Ella Manson, the experiences OGSLS’s major speaker, Chantel Tremitiere, a former Women’s National Basketball Association(WNBA) athlete shared were the most impactful part of the event. She shared her views after years of playing professional basketball and the struggles she pushed through on her path to success. “She faced so many challenges in her life,” Manson said. “But she overcame them all and came out stronger.”
Following Tremitiere’s speech, students were dismissed into “breakout sessions”, where they engaged in an activity called “compass (指南针) points”. The results of the quiz they took pointed them towards what sort of leader they were: north, south, east, or west, named for the points of a compass. Each point corresponded to a certain set of characteristics in different types of leaders — the action leader, the brainstorming leader, the empathetic (有同理心的) leader or the analytical leader.
Freshman Tilden Babinec-Love found this activity to be the most useful. “Listening to other people talk about theirs, I’d think, ‘Oh, should I try to be more like that ’” Babinec-Love said. “Just listening to everyone’s different views was really cool.”
At last, students were dismissed to lunch, where they heard from the last speaker of the day, Sam Moore, a sports scientist, who specializes in the effects of female hormones on their performance and well- being as athletes. After Moore spoke, the students were made to enter a breakout room where they were grouped based on the characteristics most important to them. Tournament- style, the students narrowed down their options until they reached a “Final Four”, helping them define the qualities they should focus on the most.
Overall, the event was a success — it had a little something for everyone, regardless of their age, the sport they play or their past experiences with sports.
4. What does Ella Manson most probably think of Chantel Tremitiere
A. Confident. B. Strong-willed.
C. Defensive. D. Warm-hearted.
5. What were the students asked to do in the activity “compass points”
A Take a test. B. Analyze a leader.
C. Fix a compass. D. Listen to a speech.
6. Why did Babinec-Love highly praise the activity
A. It made her aware of her weakness. B. It improved her listening skills.
C. It gave her access to different cultures. D. It enabled her to learn from others.
7. What does the author imply in the text
A. Leadership skills are formed in practices.
B. Being a leader should be every student’s focus.
C. The OGSLS’ activities are beneficial to students.
D. Leadership skills are the key to achieving success.

For the first time, a donated heart has been flown 12 hours and 6,750 kilometers across the Atlantic Ocean and successfully transplanted (移植) into its recipient. It was transported via a commercial airline to Paris, France, marking the first time a donated heart has flown across the Atlantic.
At the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris, surgeon Guillaume Lebreton successfully transplanted the heart into a 70-year-old man with a heart condition. Lebreton called the success “an achievement previously unimaginable in organ transplantation”. It was achieved as part of a pilot study known as PEGASE, which aims to establish whether successful transplant is possible after the heart has been preserved for long periods of time — specifically, on journeys from Martinique and Guadeloupe in the Caribbean.
The heart was preserved using a special technique where a heart is kept cold. While there have been clinical trials exploring such a technique, according to the surgeon, this is the first time it’s been tested for such extreme transport times. If the results seen on this occasion are successfully used in the rest of the study, it’s hoped that the technique could have “the potential to redefine the landscape of heart transplantation with unlimited geographical procurement (获取) and lowered time limits”. At present, transplanting hearts is often a race against time — they generally need to be transplanted within four hours of being removed from a donor.
Increasing the geographical resources of potential donors could also have an impact on transplant list waiting times. In the US for example, there are around 3,000 people on the waiting list for a heart on any given day, but only 2,000 hearts are available each year. Depending on qualification criteria, some people may be waiting for years; being able to get hearts from a wider range of places could cut down that time.
“We wanted to make this operation reproduceable and keep transport costs bearable,” Lebreton wrote. Unlike conventional donor-heart transport practices involving expensive private planes, we flew in the economy lass in a commercial airliner.”
8. What can we know about PEGASE
A. It focuses on heart transplantation. B. It was launched by Lebreton.
C. It ignores treatment for heart disease. D. It has proved unsuccessful.
9. What is the main problem with heart transplantation now
A. The chance of success is very low. B. Transplantation time is limited
C. There are no qualified donors. D. The surgeons are inexperienced.
10. Why are the figures mentioned in paragraph 4
A. To emphasize the rome of hearts. B. To prove the qualification of potential donors.
C. To say the impact of a transplant. D. To show the need for wider sources of donors.
11. What’s Lebreton’s attitude to using commercial airhners to transport donated hearts
A. Approving. B. Doubtful. C. Unclear. D. Indifferent.
D
This past summer, hundreds of fish in Canada beat the heat in human- made plumes (一股) of cold water. The approach could help protect cold-water species as climate change warms rivers.
Fish can become stressed or even die when the water gets too hot. In rivers, Atlantic salmon and other cold-water species sometimes escape the heat by flocking to cooler zones. Such chill sites may be found near groundwater springs or small rivers and streams flowing into larger waterways.
“People have done a lot to preserve and add to these natural shelters,” said Kathryn Smith, a civil engineer in Canada at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Her team works on the new river-chilling project. Until now, she says, “There hasn’t really been an emphasis if we can create cold-water habitat.”
To test the idea, her team pumped (抽送) groundwater from a nearby well into the Wrights River in Nova Scotia. The groundwater was 9℃. This created an artificial plume of cool water. It was up to 20℃ cooler than the surrounding water.
This plume attracted several hundred fish of different life stages and species. These included Atlantic salmon, most of which were very young. These small young fish hung out in the plume throughout the test. But when a heat wave raised river temperatures to about 30℃, older fish took shelter in the plume, too.
The team also tried a second approach. They rerouted some water from the river into an underground trench (沟渠). Here, the water cooled a bit before flowing back into the river. This method cooled part of the river without needing a pump. The water temperature fell by only a few degrees Celsius this way. But even so, fish were spotted in the cooled flow throughout the summer.
Though small, these early tests show a “proof of concept”. That means the approaches show promise but they aren’t yet ready for wide use. “More work lies ahead to decide the needed number of cooling site s to really help fish communities,” says Kathryn Smith.
12. What does the underlined word “chill” in paragraph 2 mean
A. Rough. B. Secret. C. Distant. D. Cold.
13. What is the purpose of Smith’s team’s project
A. To create cold- water species’ habitat. B. To learn more about Atlantic waters.
C. To offer information about climate change. D. To protect the environment around Atlantic.
14. What does Smith’s team’s project tell us
A. The first approach is much more practical. B. Pumping cold water could help fish beat the heat.
C. The artificial plume fails to attract big fish. D. The water temperature of the plume is higher.
15. What should Smith’s team figure out in the future
A. How to help fish avoid attack. B. When to make wide use of the approaches.
C. How many cooling sites are needed. D. Why to make the approaches understandable.
第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)

Are you refused when you ask for help from others The following simple tips will increase people’s acceptance of your request for help.
Demonstrate that you’ve tried to help yourself. People are more willing to help those who have attempted to help themselves first. When asking for help, briefly explain what you’ve tried independently. ____16____. Imagine you’re giving a key point list — and be specific.
____17____. People want to help those who they’re sure will act on the help or ad vice offered. Therefore, when you get help from someone who you expect you’ll ask for help again, make sure they’ re aware that you’ve acted on their prior advice — and appreciated it.
Consider the timing of your request. Here’s a personal example. My family love to ask me for tech support. So I started a policy that tech support requests could only be made from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm each day. ____18____. This system works great for everyone.
Don’t make someone guess what you want. When asking for help, make sure the person knows what you want. The more you practice asking for help in these situations, the easier it will get. Sometimes people are shy about offering help, or are just stuck in their own head and don’t think of offering. ____19____ By asking someone for help, you’re actually giving that person the opportunity to boost their mood.
Make your requests using multiple channels. In customer-service situations, there are multiple options to ask for help. It might be best to use the phone, live chat, secure messaging, a face-to-face appointment or Twitter, depending on the situation. It especially helps not to be scared of using the phone if it is the best option for a particular concern. ____20____.
A. Get to the point fast
B. Make a smaller request
C. That way, my workday isn’t disturbed
D. If you don’t succeed at first, hang up and try again

When I was ten, I was very shy. Kids, adults, pretty much everyone made me nervous. But then one day, one single ride on a school bus changed that.
The school bus that day was crowded, hot and smelly. The windows were all rolled up—bus driver’s order— it was simply raining too hard to have them down. I sat alone as usual, speaking to no one. Over and over, I carefully wiped a small circle through the cloud on my window so that I could see the rushing water outside.
The bus stopped, waiting for an accident to clear. As I sat quietly, waiting and watching, I saw a cat across the street on the other side of the road. He was all wet and didn’t seem to know where to go. I wanted to go get the cat, but I knew Mrs. Foster would never allow me off the bus. It was against the rule to even stand up. I thought that if I pointed out the poor cat, the other kids would probably laugh at me.
When I wiped the window clear again, I could see the cat struggling in what seemed to be a dirt y river. My heart was racing, and tears were rolling down my cheeks. The bus began to move forward. The cat’s eyes locked on to mine. He was begging for help. I looked around, but nobody else seemed to have noticed that.
When Mrs. Foster shouted for us to sit well, I couldn’t help standing up, directly disobeying her. “Mrs. Foster!” I cried. Every single person on the bus stopped talking and looked at me. “A cat. There’s a cat outside,” I said. “If we don’t help him, he’ll drown!” I held out a shaking hand and pointed. Mrs. Foster, to my amazement, didn’t shout at me. Nor did the other kids laugh at me. Instead, she pulled the bus to the side of the busy road. “Children,” she said seriously. “No one is to leave this bus.”
注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Then she rushed out into the traffic and rain.

A. It made her aware of her weakness. B. It improved her listening skills.
C. It gave her access to different cultures. D. It enabled her to learn from others.
7. What does the author imply in the text
A. Leadership skills are formed in practices.
B. Being a leader should be every student’s focus.

In the US, for example, there are around 3,000 people on the waiting list for a heart on any given day, but only 2,000 hearts are available each year.
【答案】8. A 9. B 10. D 11. A

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
When Mrs. Foster shouted for us to sit well I couldn’t help standing up, directly disobeying her.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Then she rushed out into the traffic and rain.

【答案】Then she rushed out into the traffic and rain. I watched nervously as she approached the cat. To my relief, she managed to pick it up and bring it back to the bus. Everyone on the bus cheered and clapped. Mrs. Foster wrapped the cat in a towel and dried it off. “We’ll find a home for this little guy,” she said.
“I can help to find whether he has a family,” I promised to Mrs. Foster. When we got to school, I took the cat to the office and made some posters. I put them up around the school, hoping someone would recognize the cat. A few days later, a family came forward and said the cat was theirs. They thanked us for saving it. That day, I learned that sometimes it’s okay to step out of my comfort zone and do something to help others. It felt really good to make a difference.
