邀请函是邀请亲朋好友或知名人士、专家等参加某项活动时所发的请约性书信。回复邀请函,首先要对邀请者表示感谢,并且明确表示接受与否。接受邀请的回信一般包含以下内容:首先感谢对方的邀请,并愉快地表示接受邀请;然后,结合邀请函中的主要内容简要说明自己的打算;最后,表达期待赴会和与对方见面的心情。

Written invitation
Did You Know
Traditionally, people send written invitation for formal events such as weddings. Similarly, these invitations are answered in writing. For more informal events, however, spoken invitations are more common.
Remember to arrive on time if you accept the invitation. Depending on regional customs, it may be acceptable to be 15 to 30 minutes late. It is not advisable to be early, as the host may not be ready.
Listen to the conversation and complete the sentences with the correct ending.

Hugo: Yes. Tony. Why
Tony: Would you like to come over to my apartment
We're celebrating Thanksgiving.
Hugo: I'd love to. It'll be the fourth Thursday in November, right
Tony: That's right. It's the time to give thanks to our family and friends. We'll get together to celebrate with a traditional dinner.
Hugo: What's a traditional dinner like
Tony: There'll be a big turkey with all the side dishes- potatoes, vegetables, some fruit- and homemadeapple pie. My dad is known for his special apple pie- he learned how to make it from my grandma.

Tony: My home is a bit far from the city center, so unfortunately we won't be able to do that. But there's a football game in the evening. We can watch it on TV after dinner.

Hugo: OK. Should I bring anything with me
Tony: No, there'll be plenty of food and drink. But if you'd like to bring some flowers or candies, my mom would be pleased.

Tony: No, you don't have to. It is just a gathering for family and friends. You can wear anything you like. But it might be a bit cold at night when you go home, so remember to bring something warm to wear. Oh, by the way, you can bring a friend with you if you like. The more, the merrier!

You are inviting a teacher from overseas to celebrate a traditional festival.
Student B:
You are a teacher from overseas working in China.
You need to give him/her the following information:
① It's called the Double Ninth Festival.
② It's on the ninth day of the ninth lunar month.
③ It's a traditional Chinese festival celebrating good health and a long life.
④ It's a good opportunity to visit elderly relatives.
⑤ People celebrate the festival by climbing mountains, appreciating chrysanthemum flowers and drinking chrysanthemum wine.
