What is the difference between the two groups of sentences
Sentenences in the first group contain one sentence with one predicate,
while sentence in the second group consist of more than one sentence with different predicates.
The first group uses present participle as adverbial while the second group uses adverbial clauses

Forms of present particple as adverbial:
1. 现在分词的一般式,即doing
表示动作与谓语动词的动作同时或几乎同时发生
eg. ...seeing the main characters come on stage, I was surprised!
2. 现在分词的完成式,即having done
表示动作发生在谓语动词的动作之前
eg. Having seen quite a few productions of Hamletand read the play many times,
I was full of confidence.
Forms of present particple as adverbial:
3. 现在分词的否定式,在其前加not
eg. a. ...not seeing the main characters come on stage, I was surprised!
b. ...Not having received the boot, I telephnoned the seller.
4. 现在分词的被动式
eg. a. Being repaired, the car isn't available now.
b. Having been given such a good chance, how could she let it slip

Usage of present particple as adverbial:
1. As adverbial of TIME
现在分词作时间状语,相当于when, while, after等引导的时间状语从句
When I saw the old photos, I remembered my childhood .
= Seeing the old photos, I remembered my childhood.

表示伴随或方式的现在分词可与句子一起转换成and连接的并列成分
