Sharon, Aged 22
The most important thing to keep in mind when going into high school is to be yourself. Besides, I don’t know what your middle school was like, but high school teachers will not care about things such as how much homework you already have in one night. It’s best to just learn to deal with things and manage your time wisely so you can achieve everything you need to.
Frank, Aged 21
I think almost every kid feels both nervous and excited before their first day. You will probably love it. I know I did. You should join some sports or activities that will make your high school experience more enjoyable. Good luck!
Eddie, Aged 20
When I started high school I was really nervous too, especially since I had been homeschooled all through middle school and didn’t really know anyone. I suppose the best advice would be to just relax. The first couple of days can be a little bit hard, but things will become easier before you know it.
David, Aged 19
I’m not going to lie. The first day is kind of frightening(令人恐惧的). But you’ll get used to it. Don’t be afraid of anyone; upperclassmen will pick on you more if you let them know you’re afraid. Just take it easy. Making some friends and staying with them will greatly help you get used to high school quickly. After the first week it’s really not bad at all. Don’t worry.
21. What can we infer from Sharon about high school
A. Teachers are quite strict.
B. Students often stay up at night.
C. Students should make good use of their time.
D. Teachers provide little care for students.
22. How did Eddie feel on his first day of high school
A. Excited. B. Bored. C. Relaxed. D. Worried.
23. Who mentions the importance of friends

When I was 8 years old, I decided to run away from home after a quarrel with my mother. With my suitcase packed and some sandwiches in a bag, I started for the front door.
My mom asked where I was going. “I’m leaving home,” I said.
“What’s that you’re carrying ” she asked.
“Some clothes and food,” I replied.
“If you want to run away, that’s all right,” she said. “But you came into this home without anything and you can leave the same way.”
I threw my suitcase and sandwiches on the floor and started for the door again.
“Wait a minute,” Mom said. “You didn’t have any clothes on when you arrived, and I want them back.”
This infuriated me. I tore my clothes off—shoes, socks, underwear and all—and shouted, “Can I go now ”
“Yes,” my mom answered, “but once you close that door, don’t expect to come back.”
I was so angry that I shut the door forcefully and stepped out of my home. Then I noticed down the street two neighbor girls walking toward our house. I was so shy that I saw the big spruce (云杉) tree in our yard and jumped under the low-hanging branches (树枝). A pile of dried-up brown needles (针状物) were beneath the tree, and you can’t imagine the pain those sharp needles caused to my body.
After I was sure the girls had passed by, I ran to the front door and knocked at it loudly.
“It’s Billy! Let me in!”
The voice behind the door answered, “Billy doesn’t live here anymore. He ran away from home.”
Looking behind me to see if anyone else was coming down the street, I said, “Mom! I’m sorry. I’m still your son. Let me in!”
The door opened and Mom’s smiling face appeared. “Did you change your mind about running away ” she asked.
“What’s for supper ” I smiled back.

Florence, a 17-year-old senior student in high school, was busy composing (创作) a song. She plans to publish an album (音乐专辑) with three other music lovers whom she met at the 2016 Campus Singing Competition. Edward, 18, is another one of the four students to make their own album. Actually he was the one who came up with this fun idea in the first place.
“Everyone loves music. Being a good way to express our feelings and emotions, music can tell something about who we are and our experience of the world. We hope we can use our music to touch our peers (同龄人),” Edward said.
The album includes 15 songs on three themes—love, campus life and youth, with pop and electronic music styles. The inspiration(灵感) for the songs came from the students’ lives. Take the song Sea of Tranquility for example—it was written by Edward during a flight back to Chengdu after he took part in the China High School Biology Olympiad in summer. “The sky is clear and the ground looks small from the plane. This scene makes me feel calm and peaceful,” Edward explained.
The songs were created one by one with the efforts of the four writers. But a challenge soon appeared. The students found that they didn’t have enough money to produce the album. So to cut down their costs, they used an iPad and headphones to record the songs in an empty classroom on the weekend.
Apart from reducing their costs, they also tried to raise money through crowdfunding on the Internet. They raised more than 7,000 dollars before the album was published in October. “Thanks to all the supporters, we’ll keep working on our own music,” Edward said.
Why did Edward and his music team make the album
A. To earn money. B. To be famous.
C. To influence young people. D. To make friends.
29. What can we know about the songs from the album
A. They were written by Edward. B. They are based on students’ lives.
C. They are quite different in style. D. They are mainly about friendship.
30. What problem did the students have in producing the album
A. They were short of money. B. They disagreed on the theme.
C. They received stress from teachers. D. They had poor abilities to make music.
31. What’s the best title of the text
A. Album Collections. B. School Life.
C. Theme Music. D. Student Musicians.

High school students perform better on tests if they are in a classroom with a view of a green space, instead of a windowless room or a room with a view of built-up space, according to research from the University of Illinois Department of Landscape Architecture.
“It is the first to show a relationship between studying with a green view and students’ performance,” said William Sullivan, head of the research team. “It’s a significant finding that if you have a green view outside your window, you’ll do better on tests.” Sullivan hopes the results of their research will lead to policy (政策) changes.
The research included 94 students at five central Illinois high schools. Students were randomly assigned (随机分配) to one of three kinds of classrooms—windowless, with a window looking out onto built-up space, or with a window looking out onto green space. Each kind of classroom had a similar size and layout(布局). The students took part in one-on-one experiments in which they did 30 minutes of activities that included a proofreading exercise, a speech and a math exercise. Following the activities, the students were given an attention test which asked them to repeat some numbers.
The findings: Students did better on both study activities and the attention test if they were in a classroom with a green view.
The researchers suggest their findings can help planners and policymakers improve students’ health and learning. For example, planners can choose places for new schools that already have trees and other vegetation, or they can plant many trees in this place; architects (建筑师) can design classrooms, dining rooms and hallway windows so they look onto green spaces.
What did the study find out about high school students
A. They like to have green plants in their classroom.
B. They will get better grades when studying in different classrooms.
C. Changes in school design will influence their attitudes to teachers.
D. A green view through a classroom window can improve their performance.
What does the underlined word “significant” in paragraph 2 mean
A. Traditional. B. Important. C. Necessary. D. Early.
What is paragraph 3 mainly about
A. How the study was carried out. B. Why the study was different.
C. The purpose of the study. D. The result of the study.
What do the researchers think of the study
A. It has drawn public attention to education.
B. It can play a guiding role in school planning.
C. It has encouraged students to get close to nature.
D. It needs more support from high school teachers.
