第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分)
第一节 (共15小题:每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
A
You probably consider calorie (卡路里) burning with training. You can get great calorie burning effects with the following exercises.
Running
Running is one of the best calorie burners out there. An average person can burn anywhere from 500 to 1,000 calories in one hour of running. Speed and pace are all factors that can affect calorie burning. But running uses every muscle group in the body, allowing you to burn more calories.
High Intensity Interval (高强度间歇运动) Training (HIIT)
If you want intensity HIIT is right for you. This physical exercise involves working hard in intervals, then resting. Because your heart rate will stay at a high level, you’ll burn more calories in less time. On average, a person will burn 400 to 600 calories in 30 minutes.
Jumping rope
This childhood activity can actually do wonders for your health. Jumping rope is great for strengthening the lower and upper body while training your balance and coordination (协调能力), because your mind has to work while you jump. Jumping rope can burn 600 to 1,000 calories in an hour.
Swimming
Swimming is a low-intensity form of exercise that also uses muscle groups of your body. In just 30 minutes of swimming, an average person can burn 200 to 300 calories. Swimming also helps to shape body, control blood pressure, and increase strength—all great reasons for you to jump into the water.
1. Which kind of exercise burns the most calories in an hour
A. Running. B. Swimming.
C. Jumping rope. D. High Intensity Interval Training.
2. Who may also be interested in the third exercise
A. Those who want to train their mind. B. Those who want to have good balance.
C. Those who want to control blood pressure. D. Those who want to do low-intensity activities.
3. What is the purpose of the text
A. To encourage people to compete in sports. B. To teach people how to do exercise.
C. To provide ways to burn calories. D. To promote a healthy lifestyle.

The first time my daughter, Maia, realized I was leaving on a trip without her, she was alarmed. “Why did you even have me if you were just going to leave me behind ” she sobbed. I tried to tell her that someday she’d understand the appeal of travel. But as my husband, Evan, pulled her off my leg so I could leave, I wondered if my solo trips would be worth the effort of going without her.
Returning home after a few days away, I felt energized and inspired. Maia was happy to hear about my trip. But this was the age of learning about compromises. As in: “You have to wear a coat, but we’ll compromise and you can choose which one.” She told me I could keep going on trips for work — but we’d compromise: she’d come with me.
When she was six, we flew to the Riviera Maya in Mexico. I was impressed by how cheerfully fearless she was when we swam in cenotes (天然井) or dived along a reef. In Fiji, nine-year-old Maia was attracted by the compassionate (有同情心的) women chiefs we met and decided she wanted to become a leader. During a trip to Sri Lanka when she was 13, she learned how the coin flip of your birth country can affect your opportunities in life.
When we finished up our travels and returned home to Vancouver for her high school education it shouldn’t have come as a surprise to learn that our daughter had other ideas. Maia was thrilled when, after months of interviews, she was awarded a place to finish high school at Waterford Kamhlaba United World College of Southern Africa.
But it was during that first airport goodbye that I realized it was my turn to be left pared to the goofy 17-year-old I’d bid goodbye to, the 21-year-old woman who came home from high school in Africa and, later, from university in France, seemed mature and unfamiliar.
4. How did Maia feel the first time she realized her mom was leaving on a trip without her
A. Sad. B. Amazed. C. Confused. D. Excited.
5. What does the author want to tell in paragraph 3
A. Maia’s joy of travel. B. Maia’s travel experiences.
C Maia’s impression on travel. D. Maia’s bravery during her travels.
6. What did Maria do for high school education after returning home to Vancouver
A. Maia finished high school in Vancouver. B. Maia got an award in high school.
C. Maia applied for a school in Africa. D. Maia went on travelling in Southern Africa.
7. What can we learn from the passage
A. Travel shapes a person. B. Life is like a journey.
C. All roads lead to Rome. D. Parents are the best teachers.
C
Nightmares could be reduced by hearing a sound while you sleep that you previously associated with a positive ending to a bad dream during therapy (治疗).
Up to 8 percent of people report having problems with nightmares. The standard treatment is image rehearsal therapy (IRT), which 30 percent of people don’t respond to. IRT involves repeating a previous nightmare but changing it to have a more positive ending. To aid memory recall, some treatments involve an individual hearing a specific sound as they form memories and then having this same sound played to them while they sleep. This is often done during the non-rapid eye movement (REM) stage of sleep, because dreams and nightmares are more common in REM sleep.
Testing the potential of this approach for nightmares, Lampros Perogamvros at the University of Geneva, Switzerland, and his colleagues first divided 36 people who had more than one nightmare per week into two groups. Both groups were taught how to carry out IRT themselves at home, which they did for 5 minutes a day over two weeks. Only one group, however, listened to a neutral piano tone while they carried out their IRT. During these two weeks, both groups wore a head band every night that tracked their sleep stage by discovering brain activity. When they entered REM sleep, both groups were played the tone that only one group was exposed to during their at-home IRT. This tone was played at 10 second intervals. At the end of the two weeks, the two groups both reported having more positive dreams.
By carrying out this treatment in people’s homes, it could become a widespread intervention to relieve nightmares, says Mark Blagrove at Swansea University, UK. “You could not only have people treated with IRT in the clinician’s room, or therapist’s room, but people could possibly be sent home with these instruments that spot the stages of sleep and have the auditory (听觉) signal that was played when they were doing IRT presented again during sleep.” he says.
8. What can we learn from paragraph 2
A. IRT helps memory. B. IRT makes memories form.
C. Not all respond to IRT. D. The new treatment is popular.
9. How did Lampros and his colleagues test the potential of IRT
A. By analyzing data. B. By performing a survey.
C. By referring to documents. D. By conducting an experiment.
10. What is Mark Blagrove’s attitude towards the treatment
A. Unclear. B. Negative. C. Doubtful. D. Approving
11. What is the author’s purpose of writing the text
A. To share a discovery. B. To confirm a concept.
C. To offer a suggestion. D. To make an explanation.
D
The Earth’s population is expected to reach 9.7 billion by 2050. Experts estimate food production will have to increase by 70 percent to keep pace with that growth. Previous methods of agriculture will soon no longer be an option. According to a 2018 study, we have to turn away from meat and dairy products.
U.S. customers have proved themselves willing to test the waters. Americans spent $1.4 billion on plant-based meat in 2021, representing a market share of 2.7 percent of all meat sales. The plant-based food companies claim their burgers use less land and water and produce less greenhouse gases. But, consider the possibility that we left our most promising resource behind in the ocean. Will you swap meat for seaweed
“I think seaweed needs branding(品牌),” says Mark Kulsdom, co-founder of the memorably-named Dutch Weed Burger. As Kulsdom explained Dutch Weed Burgers are vegetarian but for meat eaters. A decade after launching their first product, he and his partners now sell about quarter of a million burgers each year.
Ultimately, Kulsdom is striving for a culture change. “I believe we need to raise interest sometimes by using a bit of an unorthodox (非正统的) approach to things,” he adds. “When people get what they already know, it’s not that interesting. When their curiosity is awakened, that’s when new things and ideas can enter their minds.”
In 2008, researchers discovered 14,000-year-old seaweed fragments (碎片) in southern Chile that had been pressed into cakes and clearly been cooked. As they wrote in Science, all seaweed recovered at the site are excellent sources of iodine, iron, zinc, protein, hormones and a wide range of elements. Though Mark Kulsdom’s Dutch Weed Burger sounds futuristic, one could argue that they’re revisiting one of the oldest stories we know.
12. How are plant-based burgers according to the companies
A. They are healthy. B. They are nutritious.
C. They are delicious. D. They are environmentally friendly.
13. What does the underlined word “striving” in Paragraph 4 probably mean
A. Leaving. B. Struggling. C. Preparing. D. Waiting.
14. What can we learn from the last paragraph
A. Chile is rich in seaweed.
B. Seaweed was the major food source in Chile.
C. People have long been using seaweed as food.
D. Mark Kulsdom’s Dutch Weed Burger is too futuristic.
15. Where is the text most likely from
A. A newspaper. B. A science fiction.
C. A travel guide. D. A textbook.

There was a time when my favorite thing to do in the entire world was to play in the woods near our house. A river ran through them, so not only could I climb branches, but I could turn over rocks on the riverbank and find baby eels (鳗鱼).
My favorite book was called Guide to Reptiles (爬行动物). My father had given it to me for my birthday, and I read every page over and over, looking at the pictures of colorful animals. Some of the snakes were the most beautiful creatures I had ever seen, and some were described as poisonous, but still an important part of the ecosystem.
Little did I know that my book would end up saving a life.
My family moved to Virginia, into a new house. The houses were so new that no one had lived in them before. In fact, woods had been there first, and almost all the trees had been cut down to make room for houses and driveways. Inside our new house, everything smelled like fresh paint. Outside, no lawns had been planted, but my father tossed out grass seed and baby seedlings grew. My brother Patrick and I could not walk on them. We had to play in the driveway.
All the same, I liked our new house. One of the best things about living near the woods were the animals that would come into our yard. Rabbits and turtles came over every night. It seemed as if they were only trying to go home, and instead, what they had found was a big new land where their old homes used to be.
Besides playing in the driveway, we spent time in a sandbox, which my father built right next to the driveway. One day before dinner, I ran to the sandbox to build a castle but found there in the sandbox was a snake.
It was lying very still, and it was beautiful. The snake had rings of color around it-red, then white, then yellow, then black. I had seen a picture just like it in my reptile book, and I remembered that it was one of the prettiest snakes in it. It said in the book that the poisonous snake looked very much like it. I was scared and ran inside.
Para 1: “Dad! Dad! There’s a snake in the sandbox!” I yelled.

If you want intensity, HIIT is right for you. This physical exercise involves working hard in intervals, then resting. Because your heart rate will stay at a high level, you’ll burn more calories in less time. On average, a person will burn 400 to 600 calories in 30 minutes.

But as my husband, Evan, pulled her off my leg so I could leave, I wondered if my solo trips would be worth the effort of going without her.
Returning home after a few days away, I felt energized and inspired. Maia was happy to hear about my trip. But this was the age of learning about compromises. Knowing you’re coming to China for a trip, I’d like to give you a warm welcome.
There’re many famous places of interest in China, among which the Palace Museum is most worth visiting. Located in the center of Beijing, it’s the classic example of Chinese palace architecture of the Ming and Qing dynasties. I strongly recommend you have a look at the entire palace area surrounded by tall walls, the great halls and the red and yellow colors representing royal power. It’s really the best place to learn about Chinese culture and history.
Hope you’ll like it!
Yours sincerely,

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头续写两段,使之构成一篇完整短文。

【答案】“Dad! Dad! There’s a snake in the sandbox!” I yelled. My heart was pounding fast as I peered through the window, watching the snake lying still in the sand. My father ran out with a shovel, ready to take action, but I begged him not to hurt it. I remembered from my reptile book that snakes were an important part of the ecosystem, and I didn’t want to cause any harm to the animal. My father, sensing my concern, agreed to leave the snake alone and made a call to the local zoo for help.
Two hours after the call, the zoo expert arrived with a secure container. He carefully lifted the snake with a pair of tongs and placed it in the container. As he inspected it, he praised me for not hurting it, saying that snakes are often misunderstood creatures and that they play an essential role in the ecosystem. I felt a sense of pride, knowing that my knowledge from my reptile book had helped save the life of an innocent creature. It was a moment that changed my perspective on the world and taught me to be more mindful and respectful of all creatures, big and small.
