Knut lived in Berlin’s zoo. He was four and raised by zookeepers since a cub (幼崽) after his mother deserted him.
Now reports say the attention-loving polar bear was found dead in a pool in his cage at the Zoologischer Garten Berlin Saturday, with no immediate cause of death announced.
“This is awful,” said Berlin’s mayor Klaus Wowereit, according to the Sydney Herald. “We had all taken him to our hearts. He was the star of the Berlin Zoo.”
Most reports say Kmut was alone when he died, as visitors watched him suddenly fall into the water. The known news site carried news of his death and says People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals’ German branch had previously complained that Knut suffered a lot from his mother and other bears.
Knut was very famous to many people, only because he seemed to love the limelight (出风头). After his first performance at the popular zoo, he became its star attraction, raising much income for the zoo and producing toys, DVDs and more. He was not diagnosed as being ill at the time, reports say. An investigation (调查) into the cause of his death is underway.
To everyone’s surprise, his beloved keeper, Thomas Doerflein, also died at an early age. Doerflein died at 44 in 2013 in his apartment after he had fed the cub and slept by its side, but later was told no longer to play or wrestle with Knut. At that time Knut was becoming an adult polar bear and considered too dangerous to interact with closely. Doerflein reportedly suffered a heart attack. Knut acted unhappily after his friend’s death.

After a year of fights between American citizens and police officers, police in Alaska (阿拉斯加) are trying something different: Making 2017 a “Year of Kindness.” The police in Juneau, Alaska started Acts of Kindness to encourage citizens to do at least one act of kindness every day. The idea for the activity came from the policewoman Kris Sell. “I had this idea in August last year that we needed to do something, and if people have these attacks at their hate, we can reduce their hate. And how we can reduce their hate is with kindness,” Sell said.
The Juneau police are doing several different things to support Acts of Kindness. For example, officers are giving away donated clothes the first Saturday of each month to anyone who needs them. Sell also said the police had developed a ‘kindness surge’ calendar two months before. Juneau citizens signed up for weekly activities on the planner last month.
Acts of Kindness has received a lot of support. “The town was very excited about it. I’m not sure why the effort is welcome by so many people, but I think it has to do with a situation that people don’t like seeing around them, and they want to do something to change their environment,” Sell told the reporters.
Sell thought police officers should take the lead on Acts of Kindness. She hopes the activity will spread across the country so that other communities become nicer places to live.

“Usual boring day!” This would be the answer from John if somebody asked him how his day was. These days he found everything boring, nothing excited him.
One day he was lying in his room as usual. After a while he felt it was rather hot in his room. Though he did not want to leave his room, he had to. Unwillingly, he left his room and came to the living room which was slightly cool as it had two huge windows.
His young brother was playing with his friend. They were rolling on the floor. He was looking out for the TV remote, but couldn't find it. He got up and searched for it everywhere, but the remote was nowhere. He looked at his brother who was still lying on the floor playing. He asked him, “Where is the remote ” “Under the sofa, ” his brother yelled.
He tried to look through, but it was dark. He put his hand under the sofa. He touched something, grabbed it and took his hand out. Oh! It was a snake in his hand!
After seeing that his brother started to cry, “Snake, snake!” Mom came as soon as she heard his shouting. She too was horrified to see a snake. She was so scared that she even couldn't speak a word. Two kids were trying to hide into each other's back. “What an old trick!” Roman thought and threw it to the kids.
As the snake landed on the floor near to the kids, it started moving from the left side to the right. Only then did John realize that the snake was real, not a toy. He threw the snake to the kids because he thought it was a fake snake and the kids were playing some tricks.
This time Mom almost got a heart attack. Now he was scared too. The snake was only 10 meters away from the kids and was staring at the kids. They even couldn't call a rescue team. There might be some deadly damage before their arrival. There was not much time to think. It was the time for a quick action.

Paragraph 1:
As John was farther from the snake, he jumped to the window and grabbed the curtain.

第二节 (满分25分)
47. 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
注意:续写词数应为150左右。
Paragraph 1:
As John was farther from the snake, he jumped to the window and grabbed the curtain.

Paragraph 2:
After the rescue team caught and took away the snake, everyone went inside the home.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Paragraph 1:
As John was farther from the snake, he jumped to the window and grabbed the curtain. He pulled it so hard that the curtain was torn off immediately. Without hesitation, he threw the curtain at the moving snake and covered it. Then he grabbed the two extremely frightened kids' arms and pushed them out of the room. The moment the kids went out, they started screaming. John went inside the room again and brought his mom out, who was standing still, frozen with fear. Soon after that, he shut the door and called the rescue team.
Paragraph 2:
After the rescue team caught and took away the snake, everyone went inside the home. Seeing the two kids were still scared, John felt guilty and even angry with himself. He went up to the kids, patting them on the head and said, “I'm sorry. I mistook it for a fake one.” After a short pause, he asked in an excited voice, “Shall we play some game together now ” The kids burst into a smile. “What a thrilling day!” John texted his friend later that day.
